Review:Great book highly recommend. It shows you how to approach the game of baseball and how to prepare yourself for a game , but the information not only applies to baseball but to other things as well. Great book. Read more
Review:An important book for everyone to read, especially parents of daughters. Thank you Peggy Orenstein for not being afraid to delve into this topic and cover it so explicitly. The stories and statistics provide a better understanding of what is happening in the minds of adolescent females and what we can do to help them navigate this new world. We are parenting in a very complex and complicated time and we ourselves are trying to figure out how to behave sexually (thanks to the internet) let alone ... Read more
Review:I bought this book to gain insight. Instead I found an alchemist trying to discuss chemistry. I should have known from the title. We have/are a brain not a mind. Reading this book is painful. One of his first tasks Pnker undertakes is to criticize behavioral science. He calls it stimulus response. Behavioral science gives six causes for human behavior:
1. Genetic Endowment
2. Pre-natal chemical environment
3. Post-natal chemical environment
4. Classical conditioning(Pavlov)

Review:The concept of the book actually states on its cover -- Discipline.
Learn everything about discipline and you are good to go. What irritates me is that this book lacks the fundamental psychological analysis (e.g.: psychoanalysis), offends the most valuable business principle (i.e.: concise/KISS) and also misses the personal touch (lack of examples, stories). So it is hard to categorize it as anything but a twaddle.
Save your money and read something that demonstrate the discipline,... Read more
Review:Please mention whether the item has deckled edges or not. No matter how good the condition of the book is, deckled edged books can be very disputable. Some people might love it while some people might loathe it. Unfortunately, I'm the latter, and I despise wrongfully made "should be factory rejects but the publisher was too cheap" kind of products, especially in this age of industrialism. I do like to see some quirky books time to time, especially with the antique ones, but not in a modern copy ... Read more
Review:This one's the real deal! Burns tackles our crazy thoughts that cause our emotions and helps us replace those thoughts with healthy, accurate, rational thoughts. It really isn't your mother-in-law whose making you feel bad about yourself, it's your thoughts about her that are. Believe me, I was amazed when I delved deep into my head and realized what was going on in that jungle!
What you must know about this book, though, is that this is not a 'read it and feel better' exercise. This is a... Read more
Review:A very insightful book. You walk away with an understanding of how illusions of reality are formed in our minds. The writer has thoroughly documented his presentation. However, I found the detailed case descriptions to be a bit more elaborate than I was interested in, so I had to skim through them to get to the next eye-opening concept. Read more
Review:This loose leaf version of the text is an amazing bargin. However, the publisher did not take into account how you would store the papers - the holes punched in it do NOT fit in a standard 3-ring binder, they are not spaced properly. This happened to every student in my course.
The text provides an informative, easy-to-read introduction to developmental psychology. Some students found the numerous side notes to be a bit distracting while going through their chapters. Read more
Review:There has been so much research on brain function over the past decade that it has been difficult to keep up. This volume provides the average reader with a world of valuable information. It is clearly and concisely written and easily comprehended. A very important read for those interested in how our thinker works, and sometimes doesn't work. Read more
