Review:Regardless of whether you care for Kevin Smith's movies, smodcasts, or anything attached to him throughout his 20+ year career - this book was a page turner. He has a fascinating story to tell, some of which is hilarious, others heartbreaking. I have seen every Q&A this man has released since "An Evening With Kevin Smith" and I still put the book down feeling like I was hearing new stories, being told new jokes, and continue to be amazed with Kevin as not only a director, entertainer and b... Review:After seeing her name on every HBO Documentary Film, I was so hoping to be inspired by her (supposed) wisdom, to learn from her rise to the top, and enjoy the laughs that it promises. Instead, the author exhibits a Yale degree does not a classy lady make. Perhaps she mistakes vulgar values for humor. It is so not funny at all. An irresponsible waste of an opportunity to empower her readers. I’m stunned that this highly regarded story teller could write such an unintelligent book. Read more
Review:Fantastic read. I found this book very entertaining and a great story. I wanted to read it at any chance that i got. I got recommended it by a friend but i actually bought the wrong one, the Laura Hillenbrand version provides some interesting facts and figures that are not in this and if i was to recommend it to somebody i would insist on the Laura Hillenbrand version. Review:I've recommended to so many people. Could hardly put down. I real eye opener. I'd say a must read. I'd say it's important to read Etched in Sand first. Remarkable story of the survival and success of these siblings in spite a horrific upbringing. Read more
Review:John Toland's Rising Sun gives a unique documentation of the events leading up to the attack on Pearl Harbor from the Japanese perspective as well as the conduct of the war in the Pacific with the opposing viewpoints of the politicians and military. The opportunities to avoid war that were wasted through misinterpretation and miscommunication which could have dramatically altered history are painfully recorded. Needless loss of life of men and women (and children), both military and civilian, ... Read more
Review:For seekers and believers alike, this memoir stands as an authentic and moving account of one man's path to faith as well as an investigation into what formed the author into the person he is now. Klavan beautifully draws the reader through an internal and personal search for truth and ultimately to God in Christ. Along the way he deconstructs the barriers to faith so present in the postmodern world, and he does so with the focus and clean prose Klavan's fans have come to expect. Read more
Review:My only problem with this is its length. There are millions of stories we'll never know about their relationship.
I a very thankful to have had an incredible loving mother. This makes me want to pass it on, no matter what stage of life I'm in. Read more
Review:Fantastic book! Great meld of the culture, the personalities, the behaviours that allowed a very small group of exceptionally talented folks alter our society (for good or bad - your call).
The descriptions of how the group worked together, albeit dysfunctionally often, was illuminating. Read more
Review:Wow... I am the first person to review this great book. Being a huge fan of wilwheaton.com I wasn't sure what the appeal would be of buying this book since everything in it had already been on the net. I don't know why but there is just something different when your reading it on paper than on the internet. Wil Wheaton does a great job telling these five short stories from his life. You will go from feeling sad when he talks about his aunt, to laughing out loud when he talks about his star trek ... Read more
Review:Wheaton's book balances nicely the needs of an eager readership who already know his website with an introduction that allows for people like me who hardly remember him at all. The book presents a roughly chronological series of essays about trying to find work as an actor trying to recover from his image as a Star Trek actor.
A few thoughts:
- Wheaton's strength is his honesty. He does a great job explaining what makes him happy and sad, of really documenting the difficulties ... Read more
