Biographies & Memoirs
Review:Just finished the book, and it definitely falls into the category of books that I wish I hadn't spent the time reading. It's kind of a muddled mess, and has no coherent narrative. Not one of the better books coming out of the current wars. Read more
Review:The writing is very concise and easy to follow. There are a lot of facts and names but it only adds to the reading and does not hinder the progress. This is really a story about love and hardship to win a goal that all should be able to enjoy. It is enlightening and terrifying at the same time. Read more
Review:While I admire Sully tremendously, the book is just too long. It could have been half the length, it is very repetitive. I enjoyed reading about his career and of course it was great to read first hand about the water landing...that was spectacular. Read more
Review:The author provides a vivid and sometimes graphic first person description of the battles in which he participated. His narrative immerses the reader in not only the facts, but the sights, sounds and smells of battle to provide a very visceral account of the action. Read more
Review:This book is amazing. If you have never read anything regarding Malcolm X besides school propaganda you will be shocked by what this book reveals. X was a powerful, intellectual, self aware leader that was able to realize when he was wrong and when he was right. I highly recommend you check out this well written piece of art. Read more
Review:This book gives an inside account of the whole Nazi regime. Who was who, what they thought and what they did.
This book is stunning reading, and should be on the bookshelf of everyone
for an understanding of the German War Machine. Read more
Review:We bought the Kindle version of this incredible book of men who have became both heroes and role models through the way they lived portions of their lives. Since it was on Kindle, we listened to this gem on a short family vacation. It gave us great conversation topics, and no one said, "Are we there yet?" Read more
Review:Awesome book! Great story of a holy, wonderful man who gives us his insights on life, love, faith and a host of other topical issues. What a great read and what a great gift. Read this book. It will help you on your journey to eternal life. My wife will read it after I finish it. Then I'll give it to my pastor. Read this book! You won't be disappointed. You will only benefit. Read more
Review:Not counting school assignments, this may be my first* official book review:
It's good.
Maybe that's too vague, so let me elaborate:
It's really good.
Still too short?
It's really, really good.
I suppose I could quote the front cover and say:
It's "A Snarky But Authentic Spiritual Memoir".
I heard Susan Isaacs speak at the Polk Theater in Lakeland on July 1, 2011. I enjoyed her humor and talk so much, that I bought her book. I also got her auto... Read more
Review:Although I have not spent much time in the desert, I feel like I want to after reading Desert Solitaire. If you enjoy reading beautiful descriptions of nature and incredible storytelling, interspersed with thoughtful comments about humankind (and how we have a tendency to mess up nature) this book is for you. I place Abbey's writing with that of Thoreau and Steinbeck - he is that good. Read more
