Review:Raw, honest and vulnerable. That's how I would describe "The Mother of Black Hollywood", so many lessons that are applicable to us all, not just those who follow the same path as Ms. Lewis. The ability to be self aware is truly a gift and no matter when that self-awareness comes, embrace it. Own it. Love it. Read more
Review:This book was slow boring and almost painful to read. There were a few interesting points. But no real insight granted the fact that Jay-Z did not participate is a factor but fawor all the people the people the writer interviewed I just expected more. I would not suggest reading this unless your looking for a substitute for sleeping pills Read more
Review:Looking around America today, it's hard to understand what it was like to be homosexual just a few decades ago. Not to say that it's easy today, but once upon a time, one's very existence was a crime. Cleve Jones grew up in that environment, bullied and tormented even before he knew why. He escaped to San Francisco, where he discovered a world that revolved around people like himself. Driven by the emergence of a man named Harvey Milk, Jones entered the political and social fray, becoming one of... Read more
Review:Rachel is an incredible woman and her strength and character depicted beautifully throughout the book. This book had me in tears, hysterically laughing and enthralled. I couldn't put it down. Its heartbreaking what has happened to the girls Rachel describes but amazing to see the work GEMS does to help. Read more
Review:Another engaging historical tale told by this amazing author of non-fiction. After reading about Churchill's early years I was left wanting to know more about this vastly interesting and amazingly flawed individual who goes on to accomplish his perceived destiny after the exploits so well described in this book. I am fan of this author who hit another home run with this book. Read more
Review:I would recommend this book to anyone with any experience or desire to interact with an Eastern culture. Review:What determination this man had. So thoughtful at even a very young age. If anything he shows us that even through the worse despair one could not even imagine one can find and make his own light and lift himself up. Amazing life, amazing man. Read more
Review:I was a bit disappointed in this book. Having read and relished The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin, I was anxious to read the native narrative of another of the Founding Fathers. Unfortunately, where as Franklin's book combines delightful personal details along with perspectives on the man's government service, Jefferson's autobiography is quite dry and seems to be more an official catalog of committee deliberations than a story about his own life. The rear cover of the books states, in a... Read more
