The Basque History Of The World
The Basque History Of The World

Review:This book was very informative and easy to understand. There are many opinions about The Basques and their history and I felt this author was able to explain in a straight forward manner without glorifying the Basque or skirting around unpopular moments in history. Read more

Letters from a Stoic (Penguin Classics)
Letters from a Stoic (Penguin Classics)

Review:This book is spectacular, but advertised as containing audio version as well. The end of the book has a chapter called "Link to free audio recording of Seneca's Letters." The chapter just says "The Letters of Seneca," with no link. The text is not live either, so it's not like you touch it and it goes to the link in question. Read more

The Cost of Discipleship
The Cost of Discipleship

Review:I have valued "The Cost of Discipleship" for years and most certainly consider it a classic and an undeniable must-have book. I just had to have a newer, larger and easy to read copy by purchasing this later edition. I would go so far as to say "If a person that calls themselves a Christian and have not read this book -- that they only have a partial view of what the Christian faith is about. Read more

Seven Women: And the Secret of Their Greatness
Seven Women: And the Secret of Their Greatness

Review:really enjoyable, information about women either I hadn't heard of or additional information about those I had heard of. Great book, and strange the as I am reading it, I have run into discussions about the women from other unrelated sources, so an opportunity to discuss the details further Read more

The Classic Exploration of Christian in Community
The Classic Exploration of Christian in Community

Review:Bonhoeffer is detailed and analytical in his observations regarding daily life in a close-knit Christian commmunity. I found this book to be highly thought-provoking and practical. He covers a lot of ground, and I found many of his thoughts to ring true with my own experiences. His discourse is firmly anchored in the Word, with frequent scripture citations to validate and expand the thoughts in his writing. Read more

a Vanished Way of Life and the Unique Child Who Became Theodore Roosevelt
a Vanished Way of Life and the Unique Child Who Became Theodore Roosevelt

Review:This is an extraordinary book in terms of the research involved and the excellent writing. McCullough makes excellent use of primary source material to set Theodore Roosevelt in the context of his family. One of my interests is in how leaders emerge from families, and this is the best book in terms of that I've ever read. I listened to it two in audio format, and then bought the book. My latest purchases of it were as gifts for others. Read more

and Identity Politics is Destroying American Democracy
and Identity Politics is Destroying American Democracy

Review:This week I've reviewed two very different yet very good books...this one and Necessary Evil: How to Fix Finance by Saving Human Rights
By: David Kinley. Both are exceptionally well written. Both present unique perspectives on the current state of affairs and both bring up compelling points for the reader to carefully consider. it's the solutions that are so incredibly diverse and that lends credence to the idea that these are incredibly challenging circumstances with equally divisive perspec... The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor
The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor

Review:This book encapsulated the nature of the American effort in Afghanistan in the story of COP Keating. It was written at the soldier level and demonstrated both the flaws and the strength of American strategy tactics in a remote area of that country. More importantly, it made clear the valor and determination of soldiers in a remore outpost over a span of several years. One of the long term contributions of Trapper's work was the clear parallel he drew between the war in Afghanistan and previou... Read more

The Illustrated Secret History of the World
The Illustrated Secret History of the World

Review:Saw this at the library, fortunately, as it's flaws and uniformed opinions which the author passes along as "facts" - other than a catchy title - there are much better books available. Graham Hancock, whom I've met, and always gives "good" quotes to anyone who mentions his name, wrote a book called "Fingerprints of the Gods" that is vastly superior.

Very little on ancient Egypt, surprising as that is the one place where evidence of human intelligence actually survived, then he gives overd... Read more
