and Advice on First-Year Maintenance (Owner's and Instruction Manual)
and Advice on First-Year Maintenance (Owner's and Instruction Manual)

Review:easy read and loaded with facts. several other books i read tried to go the humorous route which i understand, but didn't find nearly as useful. not that this book is dry, but it gets into the details (e.g., did you know you should keep any humidifiers at least 4 feet away from the crib to prevent bacteria growth? i didn't. and the 3 books i read before this one didn't mention it either).

well worth the read. lots of helpful charts and tables at the back if you are intent on tracking... Read more

All My Friends Are Dead
All My Friends Are Dead

Review:...even if all your friends are dead. A quick, entertaining read, it is definitely worth the price. It's quirky and perfect for the coffee table, where any visitor can briefly entertain themselves for whatever reason. Also serves as a great ice breaker! Read more

Safe Baby Handling Tips
Safe Baby Handling Tips

Review:We had some close calls, but the book kept us from making some silly mistakes! Here I was thinking I was doing something wrong while trying to breastfeed, but the book showed us the proper method and now it is the wife's sole responsibility. Read more

You Have to F*****g Eat
You Have to F*****g Eat

Review:I got this as a present for my mom (as she's a mother of four, the youngest now being five) she's well experienced in the area of parenting. Growing up it was difficult for my mother to get me to sit still long enough to eat something .... and it's the same with my younger brother. It's a great book to chuckle at the frustrations of particular quirks children endure. I also bought Go the **** to sleep for my dad by this same author, whom always has difficulty getting the busy little boy to sleep... Read more

Misadventures in Sawdust at Offerman Woodshop - Good Clean Fun
Misadventures in Sawdust at Offerman Woodshop - Good Clean Fun

Review:I got this book for my woodworking son for Christmas. I looked through it when I got it to make sure it was something he would like. Nick Offerman is a TV star he likes, and I really couldn't put the book down.

It tells all about his shop and the people he has hired, their interesting stories on their journey in their careers, what they do in the shop, and of course projects and instructions to finish them. There are lots of tips also on how they do their jobs efficiently and to perfec... Read more

A Field Guide to Curiosity - and Tomfoolery
A Field Guide to Curiosity - and Tomfoolery

Review:My kids watch GMM all the time, so this was on both their lists for Christmas. I gave it to the 15 year old instead of the 9 year old after reading some of the reviews and content. So glad I did. Even the 15 year old suggested it was probably a bit mature for the younger one. Read more

The Quiet American (Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition)
The Quiet American (Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition)

Review:Given the history of Southeast Asia (the former "French Indochina"), it's interesting that Greene has chosen a Brit to square off against an idealistic American.

Is that because the British world view is Graham's professional voice? Is it because of the "Special Relationship" between the United Kingdom and the United States to which politicians on "both sides of the pond" constantly refer, making Fowler's reactions to Pyle and his ultimate decision all the more riveting? Is it due to the ... Read more

The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle: A Novel
The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle: A Novel

Review:I wanted to review this book just after I finished it, but I could not. The Wind Up Bird Chronicle is just too much, and I mean that in the best way. Still, I really want to try and capture my feelings for this text (now six weeks past).

Murakami's story is actually dead simple: the main character's (Toru Okada) wife (Kumiko) leaves him and he spends the remainder of the book trying to get her back. At its core, this is just a love story. But this simple narrative is really a vehicle to d... Read more

Bitch Planet, Vol. 1: Extraordinary Machine
Bitch Planet, Vol. 1: Extraordinary Machine

Review:Bitch Planet is more of a collection of comics than a graphic novel. The story is one where women who are non-compliant are sent to live at the Auxillary Compliance Outpost, otherwise known as Bitch Planet. It's smart and snarky and feminist, and although the format isn't really my thing because I much prefer regular words on a page books, it's definitely worth picking up. Read more

Bleeding Edge: A Novel
Bleeding Edge: A Novel

Review:I've been longing for Pynchon's take on the internet. Wonderful and worth the wait. All of his trademarks are here - paranoia, delightful wordplay, onomastic cheekiness, esoteric subjects combined with pop culture. And, something Pynchon knows how to do better than any writer, living or dead, an ending that leaves you with a sense of fulfillment. For all of you who ignorantly feel the need to review the voice on the audio version here, please go back and retract your comments and ratings. T... Read more
