Review:Love Fern Michaels - and when Free Fall was listed as a "new" publications I bought it immediately. How disappointing to find out it was originally published in 2007 and I had already read the book - and already have a copy of the book. Sad that I could have spent that money on another FM book. Review:I found this book from a friend's recommendation. I skimmed it in about three hours. It was fairly obvious what the conclusion would be. The juxtaposition of chapters from early 1800s to fairly well up to date was interesting but I did not think it was ever made full use of. The writing was shallow and superficial. The book will not age well because of this and because of the use of what could be called modern idiom. This language is constantly changing among young people and in a year new ... Read more
Review:Philippa Gregory's writings are among the best historical novels I have ever read. It is difficult to put the books down and sometimes I am still reading at 3 or 4 AM! That is saying a lot for a senior as I am. Read more
Review:This is a good series. The life of Uhtred continues to be compelling reading. He has much to put up with but manages to come through stronger than ever. He's a strong character and you can't help but like him even if you don't agree with his actions. Read more

Review:I enjoyed reading Tortilla Curtain even if it was a very depressing story, at least the plot made sense and the characters were well developed. This was not the case in San Miguel: A Novel. The plot was never fully developed; was there even a plot? The characters lacked depth, unless you consider San Miguel, the island, a character. There was absolutely nothing in this book that kept me interested. I finally stopped reading after part 2. Don't buy this book - it's waste of money. Don't read thi... Read more
Review:Not usually a fan of period-piece fiction, but my aversion fell to the wayside after readinf the first 2 books in this series. Great characters - fully rendered - and all the action and intrigue you could ask for. Looking forward to the next book in the series. Read more
Review:+++General Review of the Trilogy, Some Spoilers+++
I like that Ismae, Sybella and Annith send the message that it's okay to color outside the lines and to question authority when you believe that very same authority is using their power to hurt others. Of course, I am always fond of strong female characters, so this trilogy was worth a second read, even though there were things that bothered me.
1. Repeated incorrect use of the word "novitiate". It's so bad that I've wondered a few... Read more
