Review:Really great story of how determination and hard work can get where you want to go. I love the show and found the book highly entertaining with laugh out loud moments. They achieved success on their terms in their way; what is not to love? Fast read but you will enjoy! Read more
Review:While I admire Ms. Gay's attempt to share her journey with the reader, the book comes across as shallow and lacking genuine depth. Yes she told of the event that led to her lifelong battle but where is the inner work? Perhaps I missed it because I stopped reading. Ms. Gay if you haven't done so please consider therapy. Please fight for the 12 year old girl who so desperately needs healing. From what I read the 12 year old is not only traumatized from the actual event but she now carries the guil... Read more
Review:This book was required reading for a multicultural education course I took to receive my teaching certification. This literary text is rich in personal voice and magnifies the mental obstacles and fortitude endured by African Americans of this time. I recommend this book to anyone but also encourage its use in the high school classroom. Read more
Review:Full disclosure: the "boss" Joanna Rakoff describes in this book has been my agent for over 30 years. In spite of the fact I make very little money for her, she has always been supportive of me simply because she likes my writing--a fact the agent called "Max" in this memoir, who considered her an anachronism, would no doubt decry. For me, the "boss" is one of a dying breed of agents, editors and publishers who are in the business because they love writing.
And I like Rakoff's writing. She ... Read more
Review:This is an interesting read .. Definetly a departure from normal le Carre writing. It is a bit arcane and rambling. However as a reader and owner of all of his novels, I needed to read this book. You can read a chapter here and there. I have not finished it although I've had it for several weeks. It will be several more til it's done. Still a good addition to my library. Read more
Review:For those of you questioning how realistic this book is: I'm going to make my husband read it so he will understand what I lived through when I was an au pair in another country decades ago. Same stuff. The mother of the family I lived with spent exactly ten minutes a day with her four year old. When the children were sick at night they came to me, even when I was new to them. They'd learned long ago not to bother to go to their parents. The previous child's nurse had been fired because the youn... Read more
Review:Interesting book by a Pulitzer winning writer, journalist who is highly educated in taxes. I can not understand anyone's attraction to this despicable human being. Reading this book should be a requirement before entering the voting booth. Read more
Review:Had hoped for the insight promised. Initially over-researched, too many details about Trump's father times, etc. About halfway through, the book changes, becomes repetitive and shallow -- like it was opportunistically rushed to print before it was ready. Nothing about Trump's relationships with his siblings or children and touches on, barely, protectively, his relationships with his wives. All in all, a Part 1 of a magazine article stretched too long and with too little substance. Poor effort ul... Read more
Review:I absolutely love it! I'd recommend it to anyone, especially to students who are graduating and about to enter the work force, so that they don't think life is so easy or if they make one mistake their lives are over.
It's good to know about successful people's lives and what they did to get where they are now and through this book, we have the opportunity to be up close and personal with them.
I hope she writes another one with another group of successful people. I also appreciate... Read more
Review:Wow... I am the first person to review this great book. Being a huge fan of wilwheaton.com I wasn't sure what the appeal would be of buying this book since everything in it had already been on the net. I don't know why but there is just something different when your reading it on paper than on the internet. Wil Wheaton does a great job telling these five short stories from his life. You will go from feeling sad when he talks about his aunt, to laughing out loud when he talks about his star trek ... Read more
