Review:Nothing compared to his other books/works. It sucks that Sedaris has developed a fan base that he caters to by repackaging the same content over and over or refusing to give us more of what made us love him. Read more
Review:THE HEART OF A WOMAN continues Angelou's autobiographical series that begins with I KNOW WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS and continues with GATHER TOGETHER IN MY NAME and SINGIN' & SWINGIN' & GETTIN' MERRY LIKE CHRISTMAS. It is the fourth "installment" in this series, and, while it is an interesting recounting of Angelou's life into the decade of the 1960's, it will be more instructive for the reader who has followed the series of books in their chronological order.
HEART continues in e... Read more
Review:This book made me appreciate the freedom I have. I lived through her agony and read this book in one day! I only hope and pray that any other Anna’s out there can escape and get the help they need. Read more
Review:Good story but author focuses on all negative aspects of being Amish and nothing positive. She does not elaborate on several things she writes about. An example is its clear she does not like her dad but never really explains why. It leaves the reader wondering why she feels that way....was she abused mentally or physically? The book was an easy read and for the most part kept my interest. Read more
Review:I very seldom write reviews for the Kindle books I read. However, I had to make an exception for "Sleepers"! This was absolutely the best book I have read in a long time. Although this true story was shocking and touching, the author also made me laugh as he recounted his experiences in his Catholic school and the interaction with his friends. My heart goes out to all who had to endure such atrocities while incarcerated. I wish this would be made in to a movie. Read more
Review:"Provenance" is the account of one of the greatest cons in the history of art. About 240 forged paintings were produced, many selling for hundreds of thousands of dollars, and netting overall about 2 million pounds over nine years. Many are still considered genuine and hang in prominent places. The authors reveal that museums not only display art, but also assemble and maintain a chain of ownership for the works of the authors they display; funding this effort, however, is difficult and became k... Review:This book is a quick easy read with an inspirational and powerful message. Its interesting seeing this lifestyle through a young girl's eyes. Nevertheless, it demonstrates the importance of "angels" in one's life and makes me want to be there for others and to never pass judgement.
I can't help but wonder how's everyone doing now and what's her mother's story? Read more
Review:This book is nothing short of outstanding. I am a huge Mary Karr fan, but this just took it to another level-stalker. JK. Mary's writing is poetic without being pedantic. She somehow manages to nail an entire experience in one sentence which implores me to highlight it while repeating in my head, "brilliant!" As a writer myself, I am greatly humbled when I read her work. It's been about ten years since I've read "Cherry" and I was wondering when I picked up "Lit" if I would still love her writin... Review:I cannot add anything that has not already been said about the wonders of this story and the joy of reading it, but I wanted to add my 2 cents and 5 stars anyway. I am nearly finished but wish I had longer with George & Betty. I have found it both funny and tender. I have cried a few times when I was moved by the tenderness of it or at the ache of things not said (or, SAID). It's such a touching story, so richly told. So very grateful to George Hodgman for writing this. I have never wri... Read more
Review:Highly recommend to anyone who has ever struggled with addiction. Lisa's descriptions of what alcoholism and early
recovery are like rang so true to me, and I have been sober 7 years. A quick and entertaining read. Read more
