Review:An unnamed spirit tells the story of The Brightest Star in the Sky, someone flying around over Dublin and checking out the inhabitants of 66 Star Street. This is a four story apartment house where seven people live. The spirit tells the backgrounds of everyone living there.

Review:After reading "Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married," I immediately ran to the store and bought "Rachel's Holiday." I fell so in love with Keyes writing that I literally had to force myself not to read all her book's in a row so that I would have something to look forward to...
Having been very bored and disappointed with "Angels," I was thrilled with the return of Keyes' unique style in "Sushi for Beginners." Fun, charming and witty. Still not my favorite of all her books, but wonderful all the ... Read more
Review:Great insight into the psych of people with addictions. Makes one realise that it is so easy to slip into a similar state of mind, how to get above it all was very entertaining. Crisply written with clear message wrapped in comfortable humour. Read more
Review:I am fastly becoming a HUGE Marian Keyes lover. I started out with "Watermelon" and found it ok, but since then, I have craved more and more of her work. I have gone back over all of her work and find more and more brillance each time. And, with "Last Chance Saloon", I am blissfully happy. I love this book! I mean, LOVE it. I found the character so easy to read. I completely enjoyed Tara and her rough road of love and life. I was enchanted by her personality and heart. I think that Maria... Read more
Review:A fascinating view into a wretched little man's mind, albeit one that feels very real and alive. Perhaps many of us have bits of this wretchedness within us. I am lucky due to the circumstances of my development to not suffer envy, but I do recognise other unpleasant aspects of this man in me. For instance, the tendency to observe people and decide I'd really rather not interact with 99% of them, and then lament my own isolation and solitude. The underground man's tirade on irrationality, choice... Read more
Review:If you love Russian Literature or have a passion for Dostoevsky, then this is a must. If not, not so much. The story is narrated and uneven. Characterization is excellent, but characters whom you thought might be central to the story, often become side-lined. Some of the scenes are ponderous and at first you might want to give up, but the personalities and story tighten and grow on you. Some scenes are riveting. Particularly interesting is Dostoevsky's use if his own experience of being condemne... Read more

Review:Goodbye Days is the wonderful sophomore novel from the talented Morris Award-winning author, Jeff Zentner. In Goodbye Days, Carver Briggs has lost his three best friends in a tragic accident. Carver’s grief (and guilt) is palpable on every page and Zentner’s exploration of it is poignant and heartfelt. But underneath all the grief, tucked within the beautiful words, is the thread of hope. And that is what makes this a novel to savor. Its story and characters will stay with you long after turning... Read more
Review:Actually, the first half of this book was good, the second half not so good. The first half has some splendid satire; it is funny, biting, and engaging. Ozeki manages to poke a lot of holes in American and Japanese materialistic culture and consumeristic values while throwing in a few thinly-sliced jabs at the meat and marketing industries. The story had "meat," but it was still amusing. Then Ozeki dropped her story on the slaughterhouse floor, so to speak, and from that point on it was a dreary... Read more
