A Palm for Mrs. Pollifax

Review:update: Okay-I am happier now. The BOOKS213 store that I was unhappy with emailed me and said they were refunding my money. They apologized for the error. I will order from them again as I was satisfied with their customer service-surprised at their quick reply and at their refunding of my money. Below is what I wrote before I heard from BOOKS213. Amazon Marketplace should keep them on their list.

This book was supposed to be "new" but it was definitely not new. I ordered "New" & ... Read more

The Amazing Mrs. Pollifax

Review:Gilman is a talented writer in setting the stage for well developed characters. You see the plains of Zambia, feel the gritty sand and the herds of impalas as they run in front of the group. Enough suspense to keep you guessing! and the return of a beloved character from the first book in the series - John Sebastian Ferrell! Read more

Review:Relaxing entertainment, humorous adventure. Unexpectedly, the international spy absurdity works and I will read more of the series. Love a book that's written to draw me into the location with vivid descriptions. Read more

Review:This was my first Tom Robbins experience, having been gifted with the audio book which has 18 sides on cassette tape. It was quite a ride! Parts were so interesting and intriguingly written while other writing just seemed redundant and self indulgent. And where was the plot? Took more than a couple sides to find it. Then when I was getting caught up with the characters, it all went wrong for me. Here's where I would have definitely preferred a printed book, so I could skip ahead more easil... Read more

And Five Short Stories (Vintage International) - Goodbye
And Five Short Stories (Vintage International) - Goodbye

Review:The great brilliance and talent of Philip Roth announce themselves to the world in this first book. Much of what Roth would be later admired for is present in this work. A remarkable capacity for creating memorable characters, a tremendous liveliness and humor in language, a somewhat sarcastic view of American reality mixed up with a deeply romantic and idealistic one, fervent sexual interest. There is also in these works the kind of criticism of his home- team, the American Jewish family which ... Read more

Folksy Wisdom and You - F*ck Whales - Also Families

Review:I rarely write reviews.

This book kicked me so hard in the bean bag. I immediately felt compelled to run to Amazon and write about it.

The audiobook is narrated by Maddox himself. I like to take a bluetooth loudspeaker and turn it to 10. I put it on the top of buildings so the sound of the audiobook can cascade down to lowly humans.

If you don't like this book, it's a criticism of the way you choose to live your life. Hopefully you never reproduce. You would dilute the aweso... Read more

Running Like a Girl: Notes on Learning to Run
Running Like a Girl: Notes on Learning to Run

Review:Great read - can't recommend it highly enough. I found this book in the library when I was starting to run last year. It really encouraged me that I could do it - and I've never run and I'm not what you would call an athletic build. Now I'm hooked, running at least twice a week. I've bought this book for my girl friends who are starting their running journey or who are stalled on their way and I also down loaded it to my kindle.

If you ever thought that you might like to run - read Hemm... Read more

The Secret Diary of Hendrik Groen, 83¼ Years Old

Review:Well written, amusing, interesting, observant and very true to life. I am a resident in
a retirement village and it could have been written by a resident here, as such a lot
of the characters were similar - you just have to have a sense of humour when you
live in a place like this!!!! Read more

Meddling Kids: A Novel
Meddling Kids: A Novel

Review:Clever idea, something of a letdown in the execution.
In typical hypocritical fashion, towards the second half of the book we learn that one character hates guns, another bemoans the availability of guns, and we are then treated to an extended action sequence where guns are used about as much as in a Rambo movie. I would have preferred my Scooby Doo without the author's politics.
Still, there are some parts that are well done. The general layout of this alternate Scooby world is pretty goo... Read more

Review:Can you believe? This product of the Discordian Society is taken as the gospel truth by the afar right wingnuts. This is a parody of stupidity and it works on many levels - Political, Religious, Fraternal, and superstitious. Not for the faint at heart - you will laugh off 25 pounds! Read more
