I loved it!!! An excellent story set in Scotland, between a Scottish laird and an English lady. Both the main and secondary characters were wonderful, well fleshed-out, with attention to detail and the variety of their personalities. The plot was full of suspense, mystery, as well as romance and kept me guessing to the last page. I especially liked the use of Scottish brogue and the contrast between the English and Scottish women's characters.

Isabel Brown, daughter of the Duke of Gordon, wants to kill the laird of the clan of MacCallion. Her brother, James was killed by one of them and the also hurt her father's eye. She proceeds to go to the castle of MacCallion is captured and held for ransom. She won't tell them who she is, so she spends a little time there. Edan MacCallion has just become of age and is the new Laird. He had nothing to do with the attack that killed her brother and took her father's eye. In fact, her brother, James, and Edan were great friends and would not hurt each other.
The descriptions are beautiful and give you a sense of the beauty of the land. The banter between Edan, Isabel, and Catriona is fun and I think Catriona is batty. I do have one problem, it is that the laird never leaves his clan to hide out and he stays safe. It is easy to read and moves smoothly. I can't wait for her next book.
I received this ARC from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

I was excited to read this Highlander story and LOVED IT! This is a story of a young couple who come from two completely different worlds, one Scottish and the other English. There is a constant hatred between English and the Scottish, until James and Edan. The fight for power leaves Edan as new leader to his clan and the loss of a dear friend, evoking new enemies. Unfortunately Isabel is caught in the mists of all this mess and seeks revenge unaware of the real danger. Edan and Isabel must overcome betrayal, lies, lust and a forbidden love. Isabel's is blinded by her desire for revenge of her beloved brother's death. This story will keep you begging for more. The chemistry between Isabel and Edan is undeniable. I loved reading how much both Isabel and Edan grow within the story, and how hard they tried to resist their instant attraction. This book is full of mystery, adventure, suspense, action, betrayal, determination, friendship, hardship's, struggles, love and loyalty. It’s a must read!

Isabel’s brother James has been killed by his friend Edan’s clan. After the funeral Isabel decides to go to Scotland and kill the person responsible for her brother’s death. She and her maid are captured trying to enter the clan. Her maid is released but Isabel is held prisoner. Her father finds out where Isabel is and gets an army together to get her back. The army losses to the Scottish warriors and leave back to England. During all of this Edan and Isabel fall in love, Edan not knowing that she is james’ sister. Her father comes back again and this time Edan releases her. Why? Read to find out what happens in this beautiful, well written story.

The plot of this story left you wondering who did it. It was truly a mystery and I didn't expect the person who did it. The way Lydia Kendall wrote this story just left you wondering almost until the end. Yes, there were steamy scenes which only made the story better. I do love the normal Historical Scottish Romance Novels. This added some spicy scenes, which I loved. The two main characters were in a confused state, each for different reasons. It just held a great suspense to it, and a lot of love. It united the English and the Highlanders. I am looking forward to more of your stories.

The Highlander's Enigmatic Bride by Lydia Kendall was a great read about Isabel Brown, the Daughter of the Duke of Gordon. Her brother James was killed by the Clan of MacCallion, as well as her father losing his eye in the fight. Edan MacCallion was a great friend of James, and Isabel seeks revenge from him because she thinks he was the one responsible for the betrayal against her family. She sets out for the castle but along the way is captured and held for ransom. She holds her identity from them and lets them believe her father is a rich merchant. So the story has Edan trying to find who called for the attack and Isabel trying to find a way to kill Edan, the new Laird. Throw his sister, Catriona in the mix and you have a great story.

This was a story that really captured my attention and kept me hooked till the last page. The characters are very well developed and quite enjoyable. This is a most interesting read showing the great hate between the clans in Scotland and the English. The lovely Lady Isabel, daughter of a Duke, is our heroine who bravely (or foolishly) travels to Scotland to avenge the death of her brother,James. He has been killed by the clan who’s Laird is Edan, who was a friend of her brother. She is captured in Scotland and held a prisoner by Edan, who has no idea of her true identity. How can love find a way between these two with so much hate in their families?

A good story but slow moving, at times repetitive. The mystery of whodunit was just that, a true mystery. There were a few suspects, all with plausible reasons why they could be guilty. It was interesting trying to guess the culprit. The characters were well written and strong. I would recommend this book as the story line was very good. I want to read another book by Ms Kendall

I really enjoyed this book and did not figure out who the bad guy was! It had a lot of intrigue and romance in it. There were several sex scenes that I skipped, but not a great lot. I recommend this book to anyone who likes Scottish romance.

This is a great and very suspenseful and romantic story set in the Scottish Highlands that will peak your interest immediately. You will find that you won’t want to put the book down, and you’ll want to keep reading to find out what happens next—and especially the who and the why of the murder. This is a voluntary and well-deserved review of a free copy received from the author

I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving an ARC from the author. I truly enjoyed the story. The characters were brought to life. Unfortunately, I felt like the story was drug out too much. It was rather slow moving for so many chapters. Because the author did such a wonderful job with the characters, I kept on reading.

The main characters Edan and Isabel were beyond a doubt fantastic!
I loved the way they spared with each other.
There were many secrets that were hidden, ones that needed to be
revealed, but would they? And let me assure you there are parts
that if you're anything like me, you will cry just as hard and much
as I did.
I highly recommend that you get this book and read or listen to it
yourself to find out what happened. Also be sure to get the
Extended Epilogue, it was beautiful!
