A great book about how to maintain a sustainable lifestyle where you dont have to count calories to be healthy.
Ari describes great the different factors that is important to keep fat off in the long term.
He gives advice about how important it is to avoid highly processed food/ highly rewarding food as well as how important it is to stay active during the days.
There are also great tips about how to follow your circadiam rythm and how to avoid disrupt it.
Everything he mentioned in this book is backed up by science references.
The only thing about the book I find negative is that it seems the book should have been edited a little bit better.
There are some statements during the books that are repeated over and over again too much.
The message is good but there are a limit how many times I feel I can read the almost exact sentence over and over again before I get tired.
This is just a minor thing though and should not be a reason not to buy the book. The message is superb anyway, so I give the book four stars!

i have read and purchased several "diet" books and none has encouraged me as much as this one. It is simple to implement because there really is not any gimmicks- no hype. Just some clear, believable instructions on how to eat. It is not Paleo, Low Carb, or IF.( and I love IF ). The only thing that is not doable for me is getting a standing desk or a treadmill desk for work. However, i can set my reminder bell and move as much as i want to every hour or 1/2 hour. The point is i can do better and i can eat better without a special diet. I am encouraged and motivated to eat for health and choose real food. The price of the kindle book i paid was a " gift" i would have paid more.
Thank you

Been following Ari on Facebook for awhile now and he is one of the best in the business as far as cutting through "junk" and trends to really bring you the science behind what works for health and fat loss. The thing I like most is that Ari simplifies. He brings things to you in an understandable, well-researched way. "Forever Fat Loss" is a quick read and worth the price. Ari addresses the neurological reasons behind some of our cravings (you'll never look at a strawberry milkshake in the same way again!) and lays out a step-by-step approach to the foods and exercises that bring us optimal health. If you're the type of person who starts and stops a new diet every week, read Ari's book for an approach that will be refreshing and back to basics.

This book is great at completely explaining why fad diets don't work long term and how they actually slow down ones metabolism! Eating to nourish at the cellular level and working with your biology will lead to permanent fat loss, as the author explains in detail. The author not only addresses food and eating but circadian rhythms, micronutrients, and exercise. What I enjoyed the most was how the author looked at the bigger picture and brought many elements into a very complex issue, yet explains it clearly. The amazingly simple explanations and candidness make this an enjoyable and easy read. I had many ah-ha moments. I've read the book twice, once because I was so excited at what I was reading! The second time to take notes to implement everything (what can I say, my health is important to me!) I've already noticed how my energy is more sustained, I'm not hungry all the time (use to need snacks), and I'm sleeping deeper! Ready to be awed? Ready to direct the future of your health in the right direction? Make the investment of a few dollars, an open mind, a bit of time and you'll be empowered to leave your old ways behind!

I read this book not necessarily for myself, but for for the many people whom I love, who are on the quest to loose weight. Many of my family and friends have done low-carb and some low-calorie. Initially they have seen the pounds dropping off, but then they hit the "wall" and the pounds start creeping back on.
The principles that Ari Whitten communicates in Forever Fat Loss are invaluable in understanding how weight is first gained, and then lost forever. The answers are bigger than nutrition or exercise, though those aspects are key to address. Whitten covers the whole idea of body set-point, circadian rhythm, high food reward (i.e. Twinkies, etc), high food variety (i.e. you eat more food at a potluck since there are more options), and more.
I really appreciated his underlying belief that those who are overweight are actually starving and their body is in "famine" mode.
Right on, Ari! Highly recommend this book to all.

Finally - a common sense, yet scientifically supported approach to permanent weight loss. Having battled and lost an extra 40 lbs several years ago, keeping it off has taken serious, concentrated effort. Now I understand why. It's not me, it's my biology!
Previously vegan and then vegetarian, I wasn't able to lose, much less sustain weight loss. Now a meat-loving, low carb devotee I've successfully shed the unwanted pounds, but am often still hungry, food obsessed and the weight is slowly creeping back on.
This book for me, is like a life preserver in a sea of so called "experts".

Worst health/diet book I've ever read! The writing did not flow well and I'm still not sure how to lower my body fat set point. It could be that I didn't learn how to because the book was boring and didn't hold my interest and I love reading books on diet, exercise and how to achieve your best health.

So if you want intelligent information repeated and reinforced in a way that helps re-format your thinking this is a great place to start.
Damaged metabolism? Self-sabotage from repeated abuse of your body's natural mechanisms can be reversed and Ari Whitten tells you how.
Does it work? I haven't been doing it long enough to tell (only 2 days) but I can tell you this: I almost cried with relief when I honored my body's prompts. For example, I NEEDED chocolate and had high quality on hand. The first two bites were perfection. There was still enough of the small 1.6 oz bar that I could have wrapped the rest in its paper for another day, but finished it instead. I figured my hunger justified the amount despite the fact that each successive bite became more bitter and undesirable. My history with food sensitivities should have been enough of a biological red flag to STOP at two bites, but my standard American diet indoctrination told me this tiny bit of chocolate was NOT too much. Big mistake, a sour stomach followed.
Do you know how new it feels to give myself permission to honor my body's biological clues? Not to mention how stupid I feel in retrospect that the tools I needed were within me all along.
If the book feels repetitive, it is. I didn't mind so much though because it was self-reinforcing and that can be helpful when learning new truths. I'm grateful to have read it.

We are all looking for magic but simplicity will always win. This is a get back to basics approach that is very sound advice with the science to back it up and some new ideas about moving that may just be the magic that has been missing.

This book contained a lot of really good and helpful information and debunked many long-held and widely believed myths. It was well researched and I learned many things that will be helpful. It seemed well researched and well thought out, although there was a fair amount of repetition that seemed unnecessary. Overall, highly recommended.

So, yes, I enjoyed reading this book that seemed well backed up by scientific studies, had rational approaches to the overall eating and moving structure of modern times, but since Mr Whitten said that our everyday eating should not ban carbohydrates I thought we wouldn’t ban whole grain pasta, or bread for that matter. I am talking about as coarse and healthy handmade pasta and bread as possible. Rice and potatoes are beautiful starches, but writing this review from a Mediterranean country (I live in Greece, am Greek), I’d say that living without my neighbors’ pasta (yeah, I’m talking about Italy that’s next door to us) and bread (we have wonderful sourdough breads here) seems really unfair to say the least... Even the words pasta and bread were banned from this book. I feel sad already...

The recommendations in "Forever Fat Loss" are simple, sensible, and easy to follow. I appreciate Whitten's holistic approach to weight loss, beyond the scope of diet and exercise, taking into account the importance of quality sleep, daily movement, being outdoors, and reducing stress. This book is not merely about losing weight, it's about transforming the way you live in order to achieve better health.

An excellent book which explains why we get fat and what to do about it! It isn't about counting calories or lowering carbs - it's about eating real, unprocessed whole food! If you have been on every fad diet out there, lost and regained weight multiple times or are just frustrated with deprivation and hunger, I urge you to read this book. When you ever think about going on another diet again read this book over again. Keep it on your bedside. This book is profound, obvious in its simplicity and very very good!

Life style changing method of fat loss/weight control that can be followed by most people. No calorie counting or macro restrictions. The solution is very simple; you just have to follow the main principle. Very healthy and effective method based on your physiology.

This book will transform the way you look and diet and exercise. It uncovers the real (sometimes very unexpected) reason why we overeat and have cravings and shows us how to rev up our metabolism for sustainable results. This is a must read for anyone who is frustrated by having to rely on deprivation and willpower to lose weight and still isn't getting the results they want.

What I read sounds good and explains problems that I have with weight gain. Not sure I like the sales pitch at end of book. I will start with the foundation laid out in the book before buying his system.

This book was chock full of great information about getting off your butt and simply moving more. I think given time to implement the advice, many people would see fat loss happen quite simply and effortlessly, and turn their metabolisms back into calorie incinerators! I gave it four stars for a little bit of redundancy and it's a lengthy read until you get to the actual game plan. However I have started making some of the changes recommended in this book and if they work I will come back and give it five!

Learned a lot about what it now takes to efficiently lose fat forever. Lots of useful links with the e-book. A little disappointed with the lower amount of grains in the final meal plan, but it does make sense.

The beginning of the book is poorly written, as the writer jumps around, utilizes far too many quotes with no meat, and doesn't make points clearly without using fallacies. However, after the first 30%, a thesis is finally stated. It's almost like Whitten was rushed to add more pages before publishing, and printed without editing.
If you are looking for a baseline to healthy eating and normal physical activity, this book might help. Though, I would suggest skipping the first 50 pages.

very repetitive! Never seemed to get to the point! Also, it seemed like the author has every body in the same box which I do not agree is true! Some people are more sensitive to carbs and will have increased insulin problems if they DO NOT understand the correlation between insulin and the foods they eat.

I love the explanations on the "WHY are we here" as it makes doing the "HOW we fix it" so much easier!
Looking forward to a simple life of more micronutrients and less obsessing!
Thank you, Ari for sharing your science so eloquently!
