This book is for the health-obsessed individual. I would use it more as a resource than an actual daily guidebook. Having said that it is packed with details and reliable information depending on your belief system and ability to comprehend. Personally, I have pulled information from this book, Atkins, the Coconut wt loss plan and my own experience. When skinny people write books of this nature, I am always hopeful...but in the end rarely successful for any length of time. My advice is seek God's answers for your wt if that's your goal because food is rarely the root problem. Am still travelling my own personal wt loss journey.

This book has been written many times before (Wheat Belly, Atkins Diet, etc.) I’m not against the premise of a grain free diet, but I’m against the way it was presented in this book. Here’s why:

1. Only about 20 percent of the book explains why grains are bad for us. Perhaps there’s a lack of scientific research? The other 80 percent is filled with trite advice about how important good sleep is, how we need to exercise and blah blah blah. Can you say “common sense”??!

2. The list of no-nos is long and foolish. The author tells us not to drink root beer on this diet, for example. Root beer! When was the last time you started a diet and popped open a can of root beer? Duh!

3. Another no-no on the list which shocked me: communion crackers! Seriously, Catholics have one paper thin wafer (not even technically a cracker) once a week in church and this author is saying it will break a diet? Laughable and insulting.

4. No potatoes. Sorry, but a baked potato or sweet potato mash with cinnamon is super healthy!

5. I can never get on board with a diet that prohibits fruit and this is one of them. You can have berries, but pineapples, plums, peaches and lots of other tasty (and nutritious!) nature’s candy are apparently off limits.

Bottom line: this book has been written before and it’s been written better.

Dr Perlmutter's books are full of useful information that you can actually apply to your life and lead you to much better health. My goal is to live to the ripe old age God has set for me, and do it able to move and without any pharmaceuticals. I'm 67 and so far so good!!

This books is going to change my life. My doctor recommended I give this a read and it was the best advice I could have been given. I just finished reading it and I have been making changes for the past two months... slowly, but I'm getting there. A must buy and a must read for everyone.

Information in this book was extensively researched. However, as a nutritionist, I'm not convinced this is something that will be incorporated into people's lives. My concerns with the program are lack of fruit and beans. Also, I'm concerned about the recommendation for fasts including a 72 hour fast. Finally, the incorporation of supplements is of concern due to the difficulty with compliance. The book is written decently and while the program is interesting, and may be effective, it's just not realistic. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book.

We need to carefully evaluate all of these claims by the doctor. I advise everyone to read up on some of the critiques of his background and advice. NY Magazine, June 24, 2015, has a long article scrutinizing the doctor and his claims. It brings up some troubling facts. When you go to his website, it doesn't seem very scientific at all -- not much there -- just trying to get you to buy all of his books. Any medical doctor that promises 'miracle cures' should be held accountable by science. And there's not much real science here. Buyer beware.

Waste of time. Very little practical info about gluten free and just chapters of psycho Mumbo garbage filling up space to sell a book

Wish I had bought at brick and mortar store so could return

In medical school Doctors are NOT trained in Nutrition. We must get whole grains-the whole grain is still intact/unprocessed (of course, processed grains because are excess carbs that are harmful) in our diet for whole grains cause our gut flora to produce protective by-products which are healthy for us. Also, whole grains have antioxidants that other foods don't have and we need them! Secondly, high fat is completely false, human physiology is tailored for eating a low fat, high carb diet. Carbs we need are again, whole grains, vegetables, fruits and beans all of which together provide all the carbs a human needs. etc.
