While still incorporating all of the chaotic political in-fighting, this book leads the reader on a wild ride that is full of surprises and new twists. The author continues to develop the core characters while spinning a brand new saga.

Overall I liked this book, though it wasn't exactly the same as previous entries in this series. Unlike in the earlier books, where the alien tech serves as the overall real threat and boogeyman, in this book it is more of a backdrop. Sure, its still there but the focus is much more on the story of vengeance one character is trying to carry out. Add in that Holden and his crew have less face time than the other characters in this book and you might not get as much enjoyment from this story. However, they did still manage to propel the overarching story forward. There is a greater understanding of what is going on in the universe and that there may be a more dire threat out there than the alien tech they've been dealing with so far. Thus, while I didn't absolutely love it as much as the first two books I still rank this one as excellent as well.

Can’t get enough of this series. Watched seasons 1 & 2 on the store but then started on the books. I bought Season 3 but have been enjoying the books so much that I have been saving, UN watched Season 3 until I read more.

Overall this is disappointing addition to the series, with too many diversions, characters with "super powers", and unnecessary philosophical meditations.
However there is still a good book inside here. Maybe just not worth the effort to excavate.

This series continues to get better and better, layers of complexity that are juicy morsels of reading. Each installment to date has built upon the last to further the storyline without falling prey to the easy expectedness that plagues so many other episodic stories. I am enjoying the ride.

As I reviewed the other two books, this is excellent hard sci fi. Physics, science, sociology, chemistry.. the nerd factor is all there.
But Abaddon's Gate is in some truly rarefied air. Touching on religion and psychology in a way most authors other than Herbert haven't managed makes this book that much better. What are the religious and social implications of a race of gods? What happens when you knock on god's door?
Absolutely fantastic book. Loved it and will read it again.

I started reading each of the books in the Expanse series in a book store a few pages at a time, then a chapter at a time, then several chapters - then had to buy the book because I couldn't put it down. Now I'm waiting for the next one to come out in paperback so I can have it in my library at home - all the other ones are paperback, so it wouldn't do to have the next one be a non-matching hardcover...

This series just keeps getting better. A new cast of POV narrators joins Holden and the crew of the Roci, including someone who is out for revenge on our trusty captain. Great story and might be the best written as well with a strong story arch around humans need to explore and expand being their greatest strength but might also be the species demise

This is the third novel in The Expanse hard science fiction series. I didn't find it quite as good as the first two, but that's because the first two were the best hard SF novels I've read in decades. They were an impossible act to follow. One warning: YOU MUST READ THE SERIES IN THE PROPER ORDER. Nothing will make sense to you if you don't do this.

LOVED "Leviathan Wakes"! LOVED "Caliban's War"!
"Abaddon's Gate" can be disappointing because it suffers from bad pacing. Eventually, the book delivers, but don't be afraid to just start skipping.

I was really excited to read this next chapter in the expanse series but was left a little under whelmed with the finish to this latest book. The story started out great with the usual characters from the previous books which I had really grown to like. However, the ending seemed forced and unconnected to the rest of the story, with long stretches of moralistic dialogue about redemption and forgiveness. Not altogether bad, just not the compelling read I was really hoping for.

No classical piece of Literature here but this is about as action-packed and fast-moving of a science-fiction novel as I have ever read. Very entertaining and hard to put down. It has been a long time since a book has grabbed me like this one did. I am moving on to book 4, Cibola Burn, with huge expectations.

I didnt care for melbas character, her part was boring and predictable. The authors foreshadowed her every move and made her character and convenient plot point.
That aside, Amazingly fun book!

Ultimately, a disappointment, coming after Caliban's War, which successfully changed things up from the first novel. The authors lose their way during the seemingly interminable third act, and punt any suspense they built up in this novel's first two thirds.

Story revolves around a large alien gate created by the same dead aliens that created the protomolecule in the two earlier novels in this series. Soldiers and civilians from different planets have to work together to avoid the destruction of humanity.

Interesting finale. I think all the battle and shooting could have been trimmed but then their wouldn't have been much left. It got tough to track where they were heading, fighting, etc. and we knew how it would end.

Great book! As usual, Abraham and Franck develop engaging, interesting chracters that you are compelled to read about. Usually with big plots and lots of characters, there's at least one that I don't like and try to skim over their chapters. Not so with The Expanse series! The story is good too--you finally get some answers about the mysterious aliens and what happend to everyone on Eros. Here's to hoping they write a few more in the series!

Another successful story in this saga. It started off a bit different, and was borderline too stressful from the start, but once the story kicked in I couldn’t put it down. If you like the other books, you’ll love this.

I really liked this book about a mysterious alien artifact and the human politics and related maneuvering around what to do about it. The plot line developed logically and leaves lots of room for the series to continue.

Each Expanse book seems to get some inspiration from a different genre. Abbadon's Gate is not the noir mystery of the first book, nor the military adventure of the second book, but more akin to 2001: A Space Odyssey. With some new characters and plenty of action, fans of the series will definitely enjoy the continuation (and new take) on the Earth-Mars-Belter relations.

The third book in The Expanse series keeps up the momentum readers enjoyed with the first two installments as factions from Earth, Mars and The Belt vie for control (or at least the upper hand) is the void beyond The Gate.
Great read, and as always - I'm left looking forward to the next book!

The hardest thing for me about space stories is visualizing scenes. It's hard enough to picture ships and technologies that don't need gravity and don't exist, but then the authors put all that in a place that's even hard for imaginary space people to comprehend! However the space people were still people with familiar hopes and fears. I'd give it 5 stars if I could've visualized it, but I don't necessarily blame the authors too much.

I've really enjoyed the expanse series. The writing has been fantastic, character development strong and the plot has been just speculative enough to be interesting without actually jumping the shark. With the characters well established, this installment really focused on moving the plot ahead, not simply rehashing what went before.
For me, I'd really like to see another in the series... I get that it's a different kind of story moving forward, but man is Corey a compelling story teller!!

I'm really enjoying this great SciFi series. Corey does a great job at keeping your interest in the characters and has really built a unique world to tell his story in. His vision of the future is very interesting, and Corey does a great job at keeping a foot in reality.

I am really enjoying the series. There are characters I love and others I love to hate. The best and worst in humans comes out even when humanity is threatened by far more advanced alien technology. A fun, fast paced, space opera/adventure. I recommend this for a good, fun read.

Fair warning, this series is so good you will free fall into reading the rest of the series. Everyone I've turned onto the first book has immediately attacked the rest.
Gripping, well plotted, multi-dimensional characters, this is a good read no matter what genre you are in to.

The universe of The Expanse keeps getting larger and somehow the crew of the Roci and the new characters we meet seem perfectly natural in adapting to it. The well defined roles of each character really make this book in particular, where mankind learns of the vast possibilities lying beyond the ring, the best of series so far.

I loved the first two novels. This novel introduces several new characters and they aren't so bad; it's the plot that's the problem. The chances of Anna doing what she does in the novel are so impossibly remote. Slight possible SPOILER: the mutiny, and mutiny of the mutiny, are canned and I am finding myself skipping pages, hoping to find the story and characters I fell in love with in the first two novels snd TV show. I hope the TV show skips over most of this novel, expecially Anna, and even Clarisssa too. Clarissa is an unbelievable character, as in not believable. My Ms. O'Donnell taught us about about the word contrivance and we were always looking for the parts of the plots that were unrealistic, relative to the world the author created. Unfortunately Ms. O'Donnell would, in a disciplined and exquisite manner, tear this plot a new one and write CONTRIVED, CONTRIVED, CONTRIVED!

The obvious differences to the TV Show makes this book more deep and interesting.
I liked very much the Melba Koh character, more subtle and deep than the The EXpanse Season 3 TvShow describes.
Now purchasing the next one asap. :)
