What a wonderful coloring book, and what a great value. I was very impressed by the quality of the pictures included therein. Not only do we get to color some of the greatest artworks by the greatest painters; we also get color representations of each picture., and a short biography of each painter. Each painting is on a single page of fairly heavy paper so that the following picture will not be destroyed.
I fell in love with this book when I opened it and expect to enjoy numerous hours of coloring pleasure. Go ahead and try it .I think you will like it too..

Received book today, but I am a little disappointed in the drawings (untypical for the terrific illustrator Marty Noble). While we get a large selection of passable copies of "master" paintings, some of the illustrations are less detailed that one would expect, and some of the illustrations are already filled in with black printer ink which doesn't leave a lot to color for those particular re-creations. I think the latter disappointed me the most. Not all are like this, but still, this is the first time I've seen this heavy inking done in a Dover coloring book to this extent.

These are not exact copies of paintings; they are good enough, however, for coloring. Here's a good thing: I noticed that they have added perforations (similar to their Creative Haven line of coloring books) so that one may tear out the drawings from the book. Do this carefully, however - if you crease the page at the perforation and tear s - l - o - w - l - y from the top, the page can be removed perfectly.

All in all, though, I think if I had known that they had utilized "pre-inked" portions of some of the re-creations (see the Frida Kahlo self portrait, for example, and Munch's The Scream), I might have bought another book given that the price for this one is a tad high for what I usually spend per book on my coloring hobby.

That being said, I'm still a BIG fan of Dover and especially of Marty Noble. I'm sure this book will be fun to color.

Yes, as someone who can only draw a stick figure, I'm glad I got this because I can see the paintings, color them with either acrylic pencils that with water turn to a washed look or maintain the darkness pureness of what an acrylic pencil that can give. HOWEVER, the stupidest thing of this book is that the 60 pictures are on paper that if you color with anything other than crayon, or just pencil, it will bleed through the other. No chance for re-do's. Also? The weight of the paper won't handle watercolors so you'll get curled pages.

I started with 1 picture found out the limits and did the following but its a time pain in the patootie; I pulled apart the book page by page and YES, it caused torn areas on some pictures. Use non-reflective tape to fix. Then if you have a flat bed copier which I have, you make a picture - although - problem! These are not 8x11 so that means you have to take these to the copy store which means extra money. Now, admittedly, you can make a lot of copies so that means you can color differently the same picture which is cool but - more money for more copies.

If they redid this book? They should put it spiral because the binding is so tight you cannot get to the top without contortions which means changing strokes of the pencil/pen/crayon and it looks juvenile then. I know this is just a copy book - sort of like paint by numbers but some take their art seriously and want to try the masterpieces in various ways. You cannot do that with this book the way its set up.

Expect to suffer for art!

The pictures in thei book are WAY too simple. It kind of looks like masterpieces if they were drawn by a junior high school student or a graffiti artist. The only reason that I gave it three stars is because of the wide selection of artists and the nice mis of well known works with some that are more obscure (those must be the pictures that another reviewer called "weird pictures").. The quality of paper and the organization of the book is very good. I just wish that the pictures were a bit more challenging.

I also bought Impressionists Art Masterpieces to color. They are both so intricate, that I don't even know what colors to put into those numerous small areas. IF I don't get it right, WHAT will I have?
THIS stresses me!! THAT IS NOT why I got into Adult Coloring. I need to relax. I believe books with more freedom, "understandable drawings" (THAT IS KEY HERE), is what we are looking for, and need.

This book has some of my favorite art masterpieces and new favorites that I hadn't been familiar with. Pictures are printed on one sided medium weight paper. Takes colored pencils and odorless mineral spirits for blending very well.

Wonderful book! I like the summaries of the artist, the orginal pictures for examples, and the amount of detail for a beginner to moderate colorer is not too much. I bought this book for myself (44 years old), Dad (82) and Mother (78). This will be the Christmas gift this year for everyone in my family.

Who says you can't complete a masterpiece?

For just a few dollars, you can be Picasso! Pick up your crayons, colored pencils or whatever you wish, and repeat the choices of the Masters, or show Grant Wood how it really should be done with some choices of your own. (I've always suspected that those American Gothic folks would look a bit more cheerful with auburn hair!)

Fun and educational!

This one is ok. The adult coloring books are really neat! This one, the pictures have already been painted, so for me, who likes to play with colors and use my imagination-I like my 'Outside The Lines', coloring book a little better. It's still a good coloring book!
