I saved a lot of $ by purchasing this older edition rather than the required text for my class. So far everything has been fine as far as material matching up and key concepts. Completely worth it for me and I would recommend.

I received by textbook before the schedule arrival date. The book is in excellent condition. I've only read chapter one so far and it was very interesting to my surprise. I anticipated that the class would be boring but not anymore.

This book is reasonably well-written and colorful. While the front cover looks absolutely ridiculous, the text is edited fairly well and largely free of noteworthy typos, especially compared to other textbooks that I've owned over the years. This was my first time renting a book, mainly because I didn't want to spend a penny more on what amounts to PC propaganda than was absolutely necessary. Even the rental price on this was highway robbery, but it's better than buying and risking not making the money back later on.
In a nutshell, the book is written as though the authors had about 6 chapters worth of content that they needed to spread into almost three times as much textbook, so there's a lot of boring detail, repetition, and of course, political correctness (white inferiority, feminism, etc.). Much of the book goes well off the beaten path of the subject matter promised by the title, mainly because there just isn't that much to write on the topic, so the only way to make this thing long enough to actually be a textbook was to add a metric ton of filler.
If the mandatory PC class that you find yourself in requires this book, just suck it up and pay the unreasonably high rental fee or gamble on being able to make your money back when you sell it. It's not a great book, but it's colorful, well-organized, and free of typos, so you have to take the good with the bad.

I like this book it is very informative. The only thing I would suggest is to answer the questions in the back so you fully understand the concept of each chapter. The tests are very hard if you don't study!
The company that sold me the book was sooo awesome! They sent the book so fast and responded to emails very quickly..Thanks for that!

The book itself is fine. However the shipping left alot to be desired.
To be fair the product arrived within the estimated shipping time however it was closer to the latest date. Other than that I am satisfied with my purchase.

It covers prejudice, discrimination, behavior, attitudes, races, national themes, and whiteness. It looks unique although there may be some subliminal liberal bias toward sexual orientation. Charts have dates.

This book is written in the most insulting way. Author is overly opinionated and makes sweeping generalizations about all racial groups. Author makes bold statements that are unsupported, except by opinion. Here's a quote from the book about white ethnic groups (like German, Irish, Polish, etc.), "Whites as people don't think of themselves as a race or have a conscious racial identity. The only occasion when a White racial identity emerges is momentarily when Whites fill out a form asking for self-designation of a race or one of those occasions when they are culturally or socially surrounded by people who are not White. (page 121)" This is insulting to all who honor their cultural heritage. I am proud of my "White ethnic heritage", just as much as anyone from any other ethnic group should be. Thank goodness the class using this book is almost over!

I used this book for my Diverse Cultures in America course, and it is a very good text about various cultures in the U.S. and around the world, looking at different ways prejudice happens, and finding ways to overcome that in our communities and our world. Very good read, even if not for a class!
