this med surg nursing book is so densely populated with vital information, one would wish to carry it every were I go, so that in lull times and in studying time I can always be on the cutting edge with the latest info, however I did not realize this book also comes in volumes for easier transport, this is my only problem

I received it sooner than I expected. No issues. The book looked brand new. In great condition. I only like to right reviews when I see the service was exceptional or unacceptable, because I know how helpful it is to the consumer. This service was exceptional.

This text actually reads like a rather dry, long, and ultimately distracting lecture. It covers a LOT of material at very in-depth levels, which can be disorienting for new nursing students who don't know where to focus and how to sift through the gobs of information for the pertinent stuff.
It does present coordinated care focus, with lengthy pathology, assessments, interventions, goals, and overall nursing focus, but the spectrum is incredibly broad, and the text does a terribly inadequate job of pointing out the most important information to prepare students not only for the N-CLEX, but for their own chapter tests that are supposed to summarize the information.
The online resources are also a bit hit-or-miss. There are sections that are supposed to sum up the focus for the chapter, but since the chapter doesn't prepare or direct to that focus well enough, the summations aren't really that helpful, and can lead to more confusion than not, especially if you happen to have a teacher whose lectures are appalling.
Overall, not a bad book for in-depth reading, but it's not a great resource for just facts that are easy to use as references. I couldn't use this on any of my care plans because it was so broad and vague, and that was just obnoxious.

The Medical Surgical Nursing book is an excellent book to learn from. Although it is required more for a future class I am to take there is some required readings out of it for us. I started out renting this book and ended up purchasing it because it was so informative. I find myself referencing this book even when it is not required. I feel like any kind of medical books can get a little dry at times the same holds true for this one.
I really like how the book breaks it down to pathophysiology, assessment, and interventions. This was extremely helpful to me; it made it easy to visualize what I needed to do. Some other helpful things that this book offers are all of the different side boxes on almost every page. Some of the boxes are for example nursing safety boxes that address things like critical rescue and action alerts. Those really make you think critically about what needs to be done.
The charts and table are equally as helpful and I tend to look at those more than anything when learning something new or brushing up on something old. The only thing I would say that was a negative was some of the material you would be reviewing may be on one page but the chart that goes with that information is sometimes three pages later. This can be very annoying when trying to study.
There are nursing concept reviews at the end of each chapter that really does go over just about everything in the chapter. So say if you are already familiar with a subject but just need to review or you are cramming for a test at 3am the night before you can go here and see what you may need to flip in the chapter to review a little more.
Last but not least because this is a nursing med surg. book there are NCLEX review questions all throughout which we all know are very helpful. There is also a get ready for the NCLEX examination at the end of each section that is specific to the information that has been covered in that chapter. All in all I would recommend this book to buy, it is a book I can for sure see myself using over the years not just in school.

I wish this book had the information consistent instead of the interventions and things 5,000 pages later. It would be great if it was in order from patho to S/S,Labs, interventions, drugs, etc instead of start reading something it goes into another topic and then later if tell you important things for the first topic. It has alot of fluff.
