This book helps you to step back and realize that most people don't master anything quickly, which is what the modern world would have everyone believe. The theme of the book as I took it anyway is Practice (with a capital P). Practice, even when you feel that you're not getting better. You will have advances and setbacks and long periods on the plateau when you feel like its just "not working". Mastery takes a lifetime, and whatever it is you are attempting to master you must realize that you are never done, complete or finished. That may be discouraging to some people. If so, this book may not be for you. However, I found it very encouraging and insightful on my own personal road to mastery. Enjoy.

The Dabbler. The Obsessive. The Hacker. The Master. These four types of personalities exist in all of us when we tackle various project. At times we get excited and then when growth stop..we move on. Or maybe we overdo it. Or perhaps we just stay the way we are. Or perhaps, we experience joy in not growing and in the growth. We experience joy in the practice and that is the way of a master. That is what the book Mastery by George Leonard is about.

As for the book itself, it was a bit repetitive and at times hard to read but a lesson learned nonetheless.

This little should be required reading for humans. It gives so much insight into how life can work better if we have a few tips on how things work!
I was given this book by my son and I gave it to my nephew and also to another person ,both said it changed their lives. What else do you want?

This is a great book for anyone who wants intelligent encouragement to stay the course, no matter what the project or endeavor. Concisely and beautifully written - really a classic. I was able to apply all of the material to my particular sport (figure skating) and to my practice as a musician, with great results. This was one of those reads that just stays with you.

I liked because brought to me many handfull considerations about my way to teach. The examples confirmed my teaching stlyle and I could learn others forms to think about my work and where I want to reach.

with enough knowledge of this type of work, the message is kind of standard.. but if you have no experience in standing on your own 2 feet, you may benefit from the discipline described in this book..

George Leonard provides an excellent account of the requirements necessary to master any undertaking. He stresses that there should not be a focus on short term progress and that to become a true master, one must accept the periods where improvement seems non-existant. A very insightful book, great for readers of any age.

Very interesting book. Alot of information that can be used in any way that one wants to get a clearer path for goals to become a master. There are people's stories of how they improved in whatever career, sport, or artwork they were pursing. Also great advice for instructors, new and older ones, that have benefited their students. Found out about G. Leonard in the 'Equs' magazine (August 2017 issue)- in the article titled
Quest for Mastery".

This is a book everyone should read. Our society has brainwashed us all into a quick fix mentality. This book paints such a clear picture, its really helped me to see a lot of the pitfalls that were catching me as I try to find meaning in my life.

The Vendor sent the book as scheduled and while I knew the book was published a long time ago I did not realize it was an old copy of the book. Of course, that does not affect its readability. I would have just preferred to know ahead of time. Otherwise, everything was fine. I recommend this book highly.

One web site I follow that promotes self-development hails this book as being the cornerstone of it all! There are some nuggets in here, if you want to take the time to dig them out (which is why I'm giving it two stars). The author is always expounding on "aikido"; but not knowing exactly what that is certainly doesn't lend credence to the author's writings. Chapter 14 "Packing for the Journey" makes as much sense as a $3 bill and could easily be eliminated without losing anything to the book; I really don't understand why someone physically shoving you from behind while you're standing in one spot, has anything to do with anything! I suppose that if I were to re-read this book again (or several more times) I might possibly glean more from it; but you really can't get anymore from something that doesn't have that much to begin with, that you didn't get the first time through.
