Written in 1874, Mysterious Island still captivates. What a ride! Great story with a noble cast. Five stars Doma Publishing...and thank you for putting Jules Verne under one roof. Thanks to you, I am off to yet another great adventure by the talented Mr. Verne.

Wow! What a brilliant writer. Verne's imagination & wit outpace most modern day authors to the point that there is no real comparison to be measured by. And talk about his command of language...you will be using the dictionary as never before. I say this in a positive sense due to the fact that his knowledge & use of obscure words has helped to improve mine. My only regret is that I didn't keep a log to assist in memorization.

Jules Verne was an imaginative, 19th century, French writer of science-adventure classics. His most famous works, and a good many secondary ones, are well-known by a majority of literate people. He also wrote books that are not as well-known, and maybe not quite as brilliant, but still very enjoyable. He is very descriptive, moreso than modern writers tend to be, but those who can adapt to, and accept, his quaint, old-fashioned style of storytelling will find many hours of pleasurable, escapist reading in the 33 books of this collection.
This handsome set from Doma contains Verne's most famous novels and some "lesser" ones -- and both he and it deserve a 5-star rating. Nevertheless, this set -- great though it is -- is far from complete. Recently, $.99 ebook sets of 54 books (46 in English and 8 still in French) have become available from a number of bundlers; they share the same title: JULES VERNE THE EXTRAORDINARY VOYAGES. But the edition from Book House contains a whopping 47 books in English. That's 14 more fabulous Jules Verne novels than in this set from Doma. Perhaps best of all is the set of Verne's complete works published by Delphi; it contains even more works.
If you are a fan of Jules Verne, you will want to acquire the largest set possible. But no matter how you obtain his works, you are in for a real treat as you re-read old favorites and, very likely, discover some new ones.

Disclosure: Doma publishing contacted me and supplied me with a free kindle edition of their book to review.
My question to Doma was "why would anyone buy a book which is out of copyright and freely available on the web?"
Doma's answer, which I think is a good one, is that this is properly formatted, indexed, laid out, and it contains 33 works which, frankly, it would be a faff to have to go and collect individually, even if they are free. And it's only a couple of bucks.
All these are good reasons. I found it well laid out - the only problem (which is of the Kindle not the edition) is that when you have a large collection of novels and novellas, the "progress" bar down the bottom - the progress of which I find generally gives me comfort and succour to keep boxing on - barely moves, and is rendered a bit meaningless.

This Jules Verne Collection has more Verne books than I knew existed. I counted 28 books by Jules Verne in this collection. The well-known classics are here (Twenty-Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, From Earth to the Moon, Around the World in 80 Days, Journey to the Center of the Earth, etc.), but also the Dr. Ox short stories and five other works. It is a lot of reading for little money, a good buy for Verne fans.
The collection is entirely text, with no cover art for the books. But the notes and introductions are here, along with the original short descriptions preceding chapters in many of the works. The text is well-formatted and easy to read and navigate. Illustrations would have been nice, but you have the full and original text of the books.
Jules Verne, who lived from 1828 to 1905, probably created the genre of science fiction. He wrote about space travel and submarine travel before there was any technology for these activities. He was a visionary, besides being a master story-teller. His most famous works have been made (and remade) into movies that are still entertaining today. His books, which are translations from French, also provide a window into the ideas and aspirations of the 19th century. I recommend them to anyone who hasn't read any Jules Verne. This collection makes it easy (and cheap) to try out, or revisit, the works of this great author.

Jules Verne is known as the father of Science Fiction. He is also unwittingly became the father of a whole lot of real science through his flights of fancy, capturing the imagination of generations of scientists who have then made many of Verne's ideas reality. I've always found it fascinating that Verne could envision so many of the things that he did nearly 100 years before they became reality - and we're still waiting for some!
Almost everyone has heard of Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea (Two-Disc Special Edition) and Journey to the Center of the Earth (One Disc Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray Combo) and millions have seen the movies. But did you know that these two works are just the beginning of Verne's work?
Not long ago I was gifted a copy of Jules Verne Collection, 33 Works: A Journey to the Center of the Earth, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Around the World in Eighty Days, The Mysterious Island, PLUS MORE!. The book is well laid out and well organized. A science fiction fan could keep themselves in reading material for many weeks, if not months! BONUS POINTS - even if you don't have Collections available in your Kindle app, everything Verne is all in one place and easy to find.
Nicely done.

This "Jules Verne Collection" contains 33 complete books and is one of the better collections for the Kindle that I have seen. These are classic stories that I grew up with, and include all of the well known books as well as quite a few that were unknown to me.
This collection is nicely indexed, making it easy to find the book you want from the table of contents, which sets it apart from other collections of this type. While I'm not going to review each of the books included in the collection, I can that the these all appear to be complete works and are only missing the illustrations included in the originals (these may be added later, and "pushed" to the Kindle).
Collections like these are one of the reasons my whole family loves the Kindle!
Highly Recommended!

The Voyages and adventures of captain Hatteras by Jules Verne is an amazing story. One is taken on a ride through the arctic lands. The reader lives the travails of the characters through frozen seas and unending ice fields. Read Verne after a long time and thoroughly enjoyed the experience which is at once immersing and educating. Thanks to the store and Kindle for a 'truly capital experience', to quote the doctor, who is as interesting a personality as the hero - Captain Hatteras.

this author is one of the best writers of adventure and extreme difficulties humans could possibly face. I brought a volume of 33 stories and each story is so amazing that I haven't wanted to read anything else. If you wonder what the world was like in the 1800's and love adventure these stories are a must read

It was, of course, part of Jules Verne's works downloaded to my Kindle Fire.
