This is a typical John Gilstrap book. Once you start reading you can't put it down(unless your house is on fire. If that happens, grab your Kindle and run.) His books are never boring, always contain enough humor to keep you sane and the plots are believable. The main characters become your best friends and you always wait (not patiently!) for the next Gilstrap book. Keep them coming the store.

I've enjoyed this series, but this installment is a little silly. Jonathan and team are enlisted to find a rogue former special forces agent. They end up engaging a revolutionary radical group training in the West Virginia wilderness in a 6 against hundreds shoot out. Far fetched.

I've always looked forward to new Jonathan Grave novels, but was fairly disappointed in this one. Mainly because of the overt political sniping. I quit reading Brad Thor for the same thing. I read books to be entertained not to learn of the author's opinion on politics. Plus the ending was so unreasonable, it was laughable.
The Fear (new cover) (An Enemy Novel) :: Breaking Free from the Four Emotions That Control You :: The Poisoner's Enemy (a Kingfountain prequel) (The Kingfountain Series) :: Survivors #2: A Hidden Enemy :: The Dead (new cover) (An Enemy Novel)

I have loved every single John Gilstrap's book, but this one left me puzzled. It just seemed that it took awhile for it to get going and there was not much of a plot, also kind of slow. Hope his next book is as good as all the previous ones to "Against all Enemies".

This adventure was exciting, yet scary. It comes so close to depicting the actual state of affairs in the great country of ours. Makes you wish that there were real people like Jonathan to take some action to against the folly that continues to exist in the seats of power in this nation.

Against All Enemies was a great read, Jonathan Grave series are all fantastic. John Gilstrap is such a good writer you can't put them down til you finish. I recommend this and all his books.

Was not disappointed after the long wait to dive into another Gilstrap book. Now I'll have to accept more wait time till the next one is written. Against All Enemies works the same way the rest of the series does. Can't put them down until you reach the final page. And the ride is exhilarating, riveting, and captivating.

I wanted to like this book but several things got in the way. First, it is obvious which way the author leans politically and it is as if he assumes that everyone else believes the same way. Leave to politics out if you want to expand the reader base. Secondly, the characters are very one-dimensional with no explanation of how they got there or why they do what they do. Thirdly, the plot is way too simple as there are several instances where the story starts to turn then inexplicably stops and turns back to the main very simple story line.

Outstanding! I love the character Jonathan Grave. This book is one of those you will stay up late into the night. Jonathan and cohorts have taken on a wild conspiracy and the way Gilstrap writes, you get involved immediately and then can't put it down. The pace is fast, the dialogue is clear and also there is some very sly, fun humor - I love the rapport between Jonathan and friends/employees who have been in every book in the series and they are why it feels like 'old home week' when the story has the same good guys. Gilstrap knows what he is writing about so there is legitimacy to his plots. Although it would be best to begin with the first book, you can also pick up any book in the series, understand what is going on, and enjoy some of the very best thrillers being written today. There is not a single book in the group that is stale. Everything Gilstrap comes up with is fresh, new, and so very well done. Find a copy and get started. You'll be hooked, too!

I have loved all of Gilstrap's books (Jonathan Grave) but this was not his best work. Characters were not developed and the ending felt undeveloped as well. Hoping that Friendly Fire is like his others!

I have always enjoyed reading this series and will continue to do so. However, I was a little disturbed by two points raised by another reviewer: 1) the rigorous "moral code" of Jonathan Grave seems to be not so rigorous in this book. I'm not sure that I like that. (The slaughter on the mountain bore little resemblance to being just or justice.) 2) Not knowing Mr. Gilstrap's political party affiliation, it's hard to determine if the far right wing agenda (a coup d'état by selective assassination) was a plot device or a reflection of his own beliefs. To have Jonathan Graves wonder if the better outcome had been if the coup succeeded...well, let's hope that future novels deal with right vs wrong and not right vs left.
