4.5 Stars... Loved, loved, loved this story from start to finish... Niniane and Tiago were a great mix of sweet, sassy, and sexy; their chemistry was off the charts, but I enjoyed their witty banter, humor, and tender moments that provided substance to their connection... A strong storyline steeped in political intrigue and betrayal provided an interesting framework in which the story to evolved... Dynamic secondary characters lent themselves to the complexity of the storyline and created an intriguing lead into the next book... looking forward to the unfolding story of Rune and Carling in “Serpent’s Kiss”:)

Another in this great series called The Elder Races.
This one is about Tiago and Tricks.
Even though they are the same characters throughout the series you get 2 mains per book. The others pop up as would normally when dealing with friends.
We know from book 2 that they kill Tricks' uncle. King Urian of the Dark Fae. The person who killed all her family and stole the throne. She had been in hiding for 200 years. Now its time for Niniane to take her rightful place as the Queen of the Dark Fae.
The book starts with action on the first page. There is an attempt made on Niniane's life by her cousin and some followers. She kills all 3 and goes into hiding.
Tiago the Wyr sentinel,(a Thunderbird created when the earth was. When he is pissed he literally produces thunder and lightning)and friend for those 200 years goes to find her and bring her back home. Things do not turn out as he wants.
This is their journey. All the assassination attempts, the intrigues that go along with court life, the discovery of the bond they have and the love that develops.
Brilliant writing. Excellent world building. A fantastic mix of intrigue, comedy and romance.
This series gets better and better.
Onto book 3 Serpents Kiss. The story of Rune first sentinel and Vampyre Queen Carling. She has called in her marker for saving Tiago's life.

The Dark Fae King, Urien Lorelle, is finally dead. Urien's segregationist rule had isolated the Dark Fae society from the rest of the world. Unlike their kin, called the Light Fae, the Dark Fae was known for subterfuge and silent political allegiances. Long ago Urien had taken the Dark Fae throne in a bloody coup. He had slaughtered his brother, King Rhian, and the entire royal family to get it - or so he thought. There had been one body unaccounted for.
Niniane Lorelle had been seventeen-years-old when her uncle had butchered her family. She had run straight to Dragos, Lord of the Wyr, for sanctuary and had been part of the Wyrkind inner circle for almost two hundred years. She was known as Thistle "Tricks" Periwinkle, Public Relations spokesperson for Cuelebre Enterprises in New York. But with the death of King Urien, it was time for Tricks to reveal herself as Niniane, rightful heir to the throne.
Niniane met with a small delegation for only a short time, one of whom was her cousin, before she was stabbed. For the second time in her life, Niniane had been betrayed by her own blood kin. Someone caught the assassination attempt on video and uploaded it to the web. This was how Dragos found out about the attack. Tricks was in hiding, if not dead somewhere. Dragos sent his best man to locate Tricks and to keep her alive until after her coronation.
Tiago Black Eagle is one of only three known thunderbirds in existence. When not in his human form, Tiago is a gigantic bird of prey with a thirty-foot wingspan. He has been the head of Dragos's private army for several hundred years now. The other Wyr sentinels call him "Dr. Death" behind his back for good reason. He is a killing machine quick to anger and fueled by immense Power. He has an intimate understanding of vengeance, hunting, and killing. When he loses his temper, thunder rolls and lightning strikes. For Tiago, tracking Tricks is easy. Tending her wounds and keeping the spitfire alive is not. She is a fragile faery yet, unlike any other sane creature in the world, she did not hesitate to needle a pissed-off thunderbird. She may not be a warrior, but she is nicknamed "Tricks" for a reason. Dragos's sentinels, who are mostly gryphons, had taught her to fight dirty, and the little faery has managed to get under his skin somehow. When a second assassination attempt occurs, Tiago is prepared to shoot and ask question later. Niniane refuses to return to New York and Tiago refuses to leave her side.
Niniane is in pain, has no idea of whom she can trust, and the warlord sentinel is tap dancing on her last nerve. The man is always angry, irritable, rude, protective and sarcastic, comforting in danger and calm under fire and unrepentantly, aggressively antisocial. His is an unconquerable spirit and his bedside manner is sociopathic. But he is also the only one she can totally trust to guard her back. With Urien dead, Niniane can finally help her people return to a better way of life. She would be firm but fair, as her father had been. During this time of transition, Niniane needs all the help she can get; however, she cannot ask for too much more from the Wyrkind. Niniane must be careful not to alienate any powerful government officials and much-needed Dark Fae allies. No other Elder demesne will tolerate it should they believe the Wyr to be getting too much favoritism. Power among the United States Elder Races is carefully balanced and needs to remain so for the sake of peace. So when she finally becomes the Dark Fae Queen, the thunderbird must return to New York. Taking her broken heart with him.
**** FOUR STARS! Though this is a stand-alone story, I strongly urge you to read the first title of this series (Dragon Bound) before beginning this one. In the first story, readers not only get to enjoy watching Tricks and Tiago clash, but they also get some foreshadowing for this current story. It will help you understand Tricks and Tiago just a bit better. However, you do not HAVE to. The author has done a terrific job of introducing the pair. In this story, the backgrounds of Tricks and Tiago become fully developed. They are opposites. Yin and yang. In short, exactly what each needs to make them whole.
Thea Harrison keeps events moving alone at a good pace. Danger, suspense, and political intrigue are everywhere. But best of all are the clashes between the hero and the heroine, both in and out of the bedroom. Delicious! ****

With Urien dead, Niniane (Tricks) can take her place as Dark Fae Queen. This is easier said than done considering her first meeting with the Dark Fae on her own results in an assassination attempt. Niniane can't turn to the Wyr for help anymore so she attempts to disappear. Her friends in the Wyr demesne are worried about her though and want her found at any cost. Tiago is sent to find and protect her, and somewhere along the way he find himself guarding her with his life because he wants to.
I really enjoyed Storm's Heart, mainly because I loved the characters. I fell in love with Tricks in Dragon Bound (A Novel of the Elder Races) and was very excited to read more about her and her transformation into Niniane, Dark Fae Queen. I certainly wasn't disappointed. Niniane remained herself but we got to see her mature and work towards a more queenly personality. Tiago wasn't in Dragon Bound much so I wasn't sure what to expect, but holy cow was he kickass and smoldering! I liked that Tiago and Niniane weren't equals per say, but each had their strengths. I also liked that Niniane was always challenging Tiago so the difference between them never mattered. I also loved the character background stories, both were very fitting and didn't disappoint. I especially enjoyed the reasoning behind Niniane's nickname, Tricks.
So many books in the paranormal romance category have powerful supernatural males and either human or relatively weak women, but somehow the heroine becomes vital or she has some amazing power that no one else has. I liked that while Niniane was queen, I never felt like it put her into that silly 'special' category.
I prefer my romances to be as angst free as possible. Angst and unhappiness just aren't my thing. I love how Harrison dealt with issues in Storm's Heart. She wasn't afraid to face them head on in her writing then simply move on. I love that her characters are intelligent, fierce, loyal and loving but most of all willing to work things out and not leave me in agony.
There were a few loose ends and other aspects that I'd hoped would be included in Storm's Heart that weren't. I especially wished we'd seen more of Pia and Dragos considering her, uh, current condition. I was glad we got to see more of Rune, loved him in the Dragon Bound. He bothered me a little bit in this one because I was so involved in Tiago and Niniane's relationship and I didn't care for his actions however honorable they were. I still adore him though and look forward to his story. Carling... I hated her until the end scenes. I'm very excited to learn more about her now though, she seems like she'll be the most complex character so far. I'm really worried, however, because she might not be good enough for Rune.
All in all, Storm's Heart was an amazing followup novel to Dragon Bound. It was a little slower actionwise making it more character and emotion based. I found Dragon Bound to be more of a 'stand out' novel than Storm's Heart but I think fans of the first book will devour this one like I did.

I read this series completely out of order; although I enjoyed each book, I would have appreciated the character development and nuances if I had read the books in order. One benefit of my having read Serpent's Kiss (book 3) prior to this book, is that I have a little more appreciation for the author's long-range plot development. As a full body of work, Thea Harrison's series is very complex and the books interlock well without taking away from each set of characters' individual stories. The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars was because of the way she completely changed the personality of Tricks, the Wyr's PR faery from a fun, sarcastic, feisty smart-alec, to Niniane (her real name) a soft, indecisive, future-queen. I get that she is running scared and unsure of who to trust, and there are flashes of the former Tricks' witty personality in some of the internal dialog; but one of the things that made Tricks such fun was her in your face fearlessness when dealing with Wyr's that are more than double her size and weight.
Now, having said all that regarding the comparison of the Tricks to Niniane personality switch, the book was really well plotted and well written. I thought the only bad thing was my [minor] disappointment in losing some of Tricks' feistiness... if I had read this book as a stand alone I would not have missed the old Tricks (yes, pun intended) because Niniane is a ggod character in her own right. And the Tiago-Niniane relationship just cracked me up, his complete irreverence (due to 200 years of his knowing her and liking as Tricks) comes out in snarky little variations of 'your highness' was well balanced by her not being intimidated by Wyr's (as she was practically raised by them). I think this came out as my favorite story in a series I really like.

Book Description
Able to wield thunder and lightning, Wyr sentinel Tiago Black Eagle has ruled the skies for centuries. His massive build and thunderous power make him one of the Wyr's best weapons. And he's the one sent to protect Tricks, heir to the Dark Fae throne, when she's almost assassinated in Chicago. Soon Tiago and Tricks will fall prey to the stormy hunger that engulfs them-a passion that will shake the very foundation of all the worlds.
If you've read my blog at all, you know I kinda lost my mind over DRAGON BOUND. I might have called it the greatest Paranormal Romance in the history of all Paranormal Romances. Or something understated like that. So naturally, I was ridiculously excited to read Storm's Heart, the next in the series. I was also nervous to read it, because quite frankly I feared it would be a disappointment. I just didn't see how anything after DRAGON BOUND could measure up. I worried that it wouldn't be as good, or that it would be so much like the first book that it would be a copy cat let down. I should have known better. I do now.
Having just read book three...SERPENTS KISS (which don't hate me, but I received, read and finished yesterday), I realize, Harrison has the unique ability as an author of a series, to make each book its own. Each novel could stand alone, on its own merits, separate from the others and not be part of a series at all....which is pretty damn amazing. You get peeks at characters who have appeared in other books, but it is always through THIS book's couple's eyes. In fact, Dragos, the UBER alpha hero of all time from DRAGON BOUND (see, there I go again) can be a dick in the other books, which shouldn't surprise me, but it did.
So the first thing you are going to want to know, obviously, is do I believe STORM'S HEART is as amazing as DRAGON BOUND? It is a great Paranormal Romance, but it is a completely different animal and in its own way, that is just as exciting. So...here's the deal.
We met Tricks (real name Ninianne but seriously I can't keep typing that) in DRAGON BOUND, and she was adorable. The head of PR for Drago's Cuelebre Enterprises and also the missing and hidden Princess to the throne of the Dark Fae, she was tiny, bubbly, effervescent, hilarious, outgoing, and feisty. At least that is what we saw on the surface.
Hidden beneath the designer clothes and confident exterior was the sole survivor of a royal family massacre and coup, led by her uncle. She has never gotten over seeing the horrible deaths of her family and is still haunted by the images of that tragic day. Tricks somehow against all odds not only escaped in amazing fashion, she had made her way to Dragos, the one man who she knew could protect her against her evil Uncle. All this took place nearly 150 years ago. Supernatural Psychiatrists weren't exactly around back then to help her deal with the tragedy, so she has suppressed it but never really dealt with it. This experience keeps bubbling up to the surface through out the book, in her nightmares, in her fears, in her actions.
In DRAGON BOUND, her Uncle was finally killed and she could now, rightfully claim her throne. Truthfully, she doesn't want it, doesn't want any part of it, but she feels after 150 years of being under an "Evil Dictator's" thumb, her people deserve happiness and she doesn't trust anyone else to do the right thing by them. So she is going to sacrifice the life she loves and the people who have become her family, the Wyr, to go live and rule over their natural enemies, the Dark Fae.
She goes to Chicago to begin the political maneuvering necessary to claim the throne and barely survives an assassination attempt. Her cousin and a handful of men try to kill her in a dark alley, but they don't call her Tricks for nothing. Dragos and his team have taught her every conceivable trick in the book, including poison on the tips of her designer heels, and somehow she survives.
A video of the attack appears on You-Tube and then goes viral, and when her friends the Wyr see it, they are understandably incensed. They have no love for the Dark Fae,except for Tricks. Dragos just killed their King, and they adore Tricks like a little sister, so If Dragos had his way, they would all arrive in mass, kick Dark Fae ass and take their beloved Tricks back home to New York where she belongs. As far as they are concerned, she is an adopted Wyr and the Dark Fae are treacherous bastards who don't deserve her. However, Dragos and Tricks both know that would be war, not just with the Dark Fae but possibly with other factions of the Elder Races. At this point, Dragos doesn't really care. He's just about finding her and protecting her, but she's gone into hiding rather then start an Elder Race war.
The people she truly trusts, she can't have anything to do with now, due to the bad blood between the Elves and the Wyr. The people she is supposed to work with and rule over are all quite possibly plotting to kill her. So she does what any fashionista would do. Goes shopping, tries to change her appearance and then while she hiding in a crappy hotel gets completely drunk, trying to convince herself her entire existence hasn't just gone to complete shit.
Dragos, realizing he is dealing with a potential political land mine, wants to send one of his elite crew of bad assess, to find her and protect her. Tricks knows Tiago the least of any of the Sentinels, yet he is the one who nearly goes ballistic when he sees the now famous video on the news of these men attacking her. He insists on being the one to go find Tricks and protect her. He is also the one Wyr who gets under Trick's skin and rubs her the wrong way. In DRAGON BOUND, I believe she refers to him as a junk yard dog.
Having spent most of the last century holding down Drago's holdings in South America, Tiago is a bad ass. He is the only Thunder Bird in existence, a Wyr who can change into a giant bird who can call down storms with lightning and thunder. He finds Tricks, and unfortunately finds himself excruciatingly attracted to her, which is bad on many levels. He is supposed to protect her, so he can't be distracted and he can never let himself love her because she is going to be on the throne of a people who would just as soon shoot him down out of the sky as look at him. Tricks has always found Tiago to be overbearing, a pain in her royal ass, and so attractive he makes her eyes cross. She has no time for this, what with having to wade through a political shit-storm. Tiago finds her almost immediately, and the fireworks start up. In fact at one point she is crying and he doesn't know how to make her stop. He's completely over his head in this scenario and he has this great phone call with Pia, who basically explains to him what is going on with Tricks. Problem is, Tricks is up to her old Tricks and she sneaks off. He finds of her of course but not before she is almost killed....again. It becomes clear she needs visibility not subterfuge to keep her safe.
The two go to the Regent Hotel, where the Delegation of Elder Race Leaders are meeting. she takes off on her own again but he beats her there, and they arrive to a mass of paparazzi. She is a Princess who has come out of hiding and who must deal with a Council of the Elder Race, all of whom are extremely Powerful with a capital P, all of whom she must convince she is the rightful ruler of the Dark Fae, before she can even think about going back Home to be crowned Queen. She must stay alive and try to forge alliances amongst a group of people known for their secretive natures.
Tiago is a political problem. The good Dark Fae (and yes there are some) are known for their suberterfuge and naturally nervous about having a Queen who has grown up in the enemy camp. The only way they will accept her is if she keeps separation between her and the Wyr, but she has to be protected as well, and Tiago refuses to be parted from her regardless of the consequences, until she has made it to her home in Faery and been crowned Queen.
She quickly realizes the best thing she can do is try to find someone Powerful enough in Faery to marry her and keep her alive. The problem is Tiago, who saves her life time and again, protects her, is gentle when with her and vicious to anyone who looks at her the wrong way, and who she is falling in love with. He refuses to leave her side, with good reason as she is nearly killed twice and kidnapped in the same week and the thought of her married to someone else...kinda flips hims out. He is actually everything Tricks wants and knows she can not have, and if they mate...his existence will be hellish with out her until he fades away as all heartbroken Wyr do. So she can't let it go that far, it is basically a death sentence for Tiago, but how can she fight the feelings they both have for each other? Someone is behind all these attempts on Trick's life and she and Tiago have to find out who before it is too late.
STORM'S HEART's world building is denser and more deeply layered then DRAGON BOUND. There is less time spent on the developing love affair and more time spent on the dangerous and shifting political landscape of the Dark Fae, because the story demands it. One of the things that impressed me most of all was as Alpha as Tiago was, he chooses to sacrifice everything to basically stand behind Tricks and watch her back, and let her be the future Queen, all he asks is that he be there with her and much as I love Dragos I simply do not believe in the same circumstances he'd be able to do that.
Drago's number one Sentinel, Rune and the Harpy Aryal are in this book and it was great to see Aryal through Trick's eyes instead of Pia's. Pia and Aryal did not like each other at all in book one but Aryal is Trick's friend and kinda hilarious in this book. I loved seeing these characters through a different point of view and getting to know them both better. They, along with Dragos, are NOT any happier about Tricks and Tiago's relationship then the Dark Fae. Their concerns are so strong it almost ends century old friendships which was amazing to watch happen.
We are introduced to Carling, the Vampire Sorceress who is the MC of SERPENT'S KISS, (coming in October). She is one scary witch and someone I at first had a difficult time imagining hooking up with the blonde, gorgeous, laid back Rockstar of the Wyr, Rune. Having just finished their story, I can't believe how talented this author is. The way she matches up her characters is fantastic. Carling and Tiago would have been a nightmare, Tiago was perfect for Tricks. Rune is the only Wyr who could have gotten past Carling's defenses, and this is part of Harrison's creative genius. She isn't building a world, she's building a universe of characters and scenarios. I think it could go on indefinitely and unlike so many of my favorite series's that are sputtering out, this one looks like it could go the distance. I certainly hope it does.
Amy Boggs, the brilliant agent who snapped Harrison up and believed in this series, promised us in the comments section of our review of DRAGON BOUND, that Pia and Dragos get another book from their point of view down the road, which is unheard of and brilliant. What author does that? Go back and write a second book about the Main Characters of a previous love story? That is some brave story telling and I applaud. I can't help but hope that this couple gets the same treatment. There is so much left unfinished. The ending of this book nearly had me in tears and I can't help but hope their story gets more attention down the line. DRAGON BOUND was light hearted, fun and joyful. A sultry Summer rain storm. STORM'S HEART is a wild hurricane of a book; intense, dark, at times gut wrenching and always passionately sexual. A magical summer thriller that will keep you up late at night. Don't expect another DRAGON BOUND in STORM'S HEART, it is a different kind of storm altogether, but one I enjoyed riding out.

Elder Races 2.
After 200 years of safety hiding with the Wyr as Thistle "Tricks" Periwinkle, Dark Fae heir Niniane Lorelle must now take her place as Queen back in the lands she fled the night of her family's slaughter. When her cousin's attempt to kill her appears on television, Wyr Sentinel Tiago Black Eagle immediately takes leave to find and protect the fairy. They not only have to survive the trip to her home, but deal with the feelings arising between them and the political ramifications if they act on them.
I almost feel like I owe the author an apology. I had loved the first book which gave us the story of Dragos and Pia, but didn't think Harrison could hit those heights again. This entry was just as exciting and engrossing. Frankly, this is the way to write Fantasy Romance. Based on the characters I've met within these digital pages, I would say to expect Alpha characters, not just with the males. The question in this one wasn't whether Niniane and Tiago would do it or not, but whether they can survive long enough to enjoy it. A tiny warning, you will find yourself falling for certain secondary characters who might not make it to the end of the book, so perhaps a tissue or two might be in order. 4.5 out of 5

I have to admit that when I discovered, after reading Dragon Bound, that the heroine of Storm's Heart was going to be Tricks I wasn't very excited - I really wanted one of the griffins to be the lead in this next book - but I am happy to say that it is well worth waiting for the others in order to get this story.
When former member of Dragos' New York City cadre and lost heir to the Dark Fae throne, Tricks, goes missing after an assassination attempt, Thunderbird shifter Tiago's anger and his protective instincts go into overdrive - he's going to find her and neither Tricks' protests, nor Elder Race politics are going to stop Tiago from seeing her safely to the the Fae Land of Ariyal to collect her crown, - and with the dark scary shifter at her back, Tricks' enemies better beware.
Sometimes when I like a book as much as I did Storm's Heart, I have a hard time putting my reasons into words. It's not that the components of Storm's Heart are so different from a lot of other paranormal romances I've read - dark dangerous protective alpha hero, great chemistry kicked into overdrive by a mate bond between the leads , and (being hero-centeric, this is not a deal breaker for me) a great heroine. It's just that somehow in the story that Harrison delivers, all of those pieces fit together so well and even better, they come together without feeling like a rehash of the previous book.
The hero Tiago who is the head of Dragos' Wyr army starts out uber protective and a bit scary, even to the heroine Tricks (aka Niniane) who has pretty much grown up around big scary Wyr. Fortunately though, Tiago doesn't end up with a one note performance but chills a bit as time goes on - initially he is all instinct but as the relationship makes it past a certain stage, he starts to use his head (and heart) as well as his hormones. This shift enables the pair to truly become a partnership, which was a big plus for me. I also got a kick out of how this deadly shapeshifter gains an appreciation for all things froufrou - as long as they are connected with his heroine - and how he gleefully thrives on the conflict that will be ever present in Tricks' new life.
Probably my biggest surprise though was that I also really liked Tricks. As she reclaims her name and reinvents herself as princess Niniane, Tricks manages to hold her own with Tiago without having to be super kick-butty or hardheaded and I liked that that she sometimes allows Tiago to take care of her and other times holds her ground in order to get him to back down and give her space - as future Queen of the Fae -she has to have some power in the relationship. I also really liked how Tricks relates to other characters in the cast - even the minor ones - she really turns out to be a very charming and likeable character when all is said and done.
Since the action for the story moved from New York to Chicago and to the Fae land of Arydal, Dragos, Pia and crew - with the exception of Gryphon Rune and Harpy Aryal - have no more than a few brief cameos here. Harrison does however expand her world and introduces us to another Elder Race, the Vampyre, and their leader Carling is fascinating and terrifying both. It is Carling who, along with Rune, is slated to star of the next book, Serpent's Kiss, and even though I can't imagine how that is going to work out, I can't wait to see how Harrison pulls it off. (Oh and as you read Storm's Heart keep an eye out for Khalil, who makes a very brief blink-and-you-will-miss-it appearance in the story, he's supposedly the hero for book 4 Oracle's Moon.)

The world of Storm's Heart is one that rejuvenates the paranormal romance genre, infusing it with new breeds of hero and heroine who delight us with their charismatic personalities and enthrall us with the newness of their supernatural abilities. Fairly unknown entities such as dragons, thunderbirds, and gryphons dominate the novels of the Elder Races, and we can't help but smile gleefully as these new additions join familiar vampire and faerie favorites to create stories that allow us to revel in what we love most about the genre as a whole while also providing us with new experiences and new characters with whom to fall in love.
Ms. Harrison is a master at creating extraordinarily alpha-male heroes-men who are unapologetically protective and possessive, but who also acknowledge that the need for their women goes far beyond the physical and into a true and believable partnership. Tiago is typically rough on the exterior, strength and dominance oozing from his black-clad physique in staggering waves, but his tenderness and sensitivity when it comes to diminutive Niniane guarantees himself a treasured place in our hearts as we secretly wish for him to step from the pages and turn that slightly intimidating and focused attention our way. He is literally a raging storm encased in flesh, his temper impressive but never overwhelming, and his aggressiveness just enough to remind us what he's capable of as we melt with the knowledge of just how much he tempers that power with his mate.
Niniane is strong in her own right, her power lying in the force of her infectious personality and her ability to diffuse tension with soothing words and genuine compliments when those around her would resort to more violent means of communicating. Though her relationship with Tiago is a bit of a push and pull in the beginning-her sense of royal responsibility outweighing her desire to pursue a relationship-once the decision to move forward is made, both parties throw their full weight behind the effort to present a unified front to all those who seek to do them harm. Little flashbacks to her gruesome past make us fully appreciate the safety she finds in Tiago's embrace, and we easily root for a woman of intelligence and wit who constantly seeks to put the well-being of others before her own.
Though not quite as strong as its predecessor, Storm's Heart is still an intensely satisfying addition to this series. The political maneuvering, conniving, and corruption make for a slightly quieter read in comparison to Dragos's explosive and combative nature, but Ms. Harrison's characters are written in such rich and lush detail that they exist fully formed in our minds; their features, personalities, strengths and weaknesses etched crystal clear into our memories where they will remain indefinitely no matter how many books we pick up following their stories.

Second in the Elder Races paranormal romance series revolving around the elite Wyr warriors, sentinels, of Dragos Cuelebre. The couple focus is on Tiago and Tricks, er, I mean the Princess Niniane of the Dark Fae.
My Take
These two have a hard row to hoe. He's wyr. She's fae. The future queen of the Dark Fae. And they won't be welcoming of a wyr king nor of half-wyr, half-fae children who will inherit. Seems none of the Elder races are keen on this combination.
A couple nods to The Three Stooges.
Tiago sure cracks me up! His long history as a god certainly comes through in all his alpha-ness. Tricks sure knows how to rev up his engine...I do love her frequent requests, or is that pleas, for a do-over 'cause her mouth got away from her brain. Or when she tries to get out of it with "I'm just sayin'!" Of course, Tiago has his own response to "her tempestuousness" or "your argumentativeness" and yet more.
Oh god, oh yeah, Tricks discovers that Tiago's real animal form is a mother hen!
As much as Tricks doesn't want the throne, she puts it really well as to why she intends to fight for it when she explains it to Tiago: "Niniane didn't die, she just went into hiding...I'm right too. Urien killed that teenage girl...Going back and claiming the throne is the only way I can get justice for her, and for her parents and brothers".
Oh yeah, Tiago definitely has grounds for pissed-offed-ness when Niniane complains about not knowing if he's any good and he points out that she's the one who keeps putting the brakes on! He does discover a whole new way of battle. Peaceful, mostly lacking in aggression. But still war.
Well, I still don't get it. What is the deal with Tri-State Financial Services and what is the significance of its shareholder?
Harrison did a reasonable job on the tension, but she kind of missed the boat on really taking it deep--a very, very minor whine on my part.
Lack of Urien seems to be going to the delegation's heads when they refuse to let Tricks have her clothes! But, oh man, does she ever get her own back on them!!
Oooh, I think Rune is getting set up for the Vampyre Councillor!
The Story
Hindsight is always 20-20 when Niniane goes missing. Video footage posted to YouTube showed her being attacked by her own
escort.
It was the best choice politically for Tricks to go to Chicago without Wyr backup. The balance of power is very delicate between the Elder Races and no one would be happy if the Wyr appeared to be sticking their noses into Dark Fae business. But this assassination, caught on camera, means all bets are off. Just as Tiago is immediately off to Chicago to find her with the rest of the Sentinels making preparations.
But Tricks won't rely upon anyone but herself. It's a lesson she learned when her uncle murdered her parents and her brothers. Too bad, Tiago didn't get the memo...as they battle over whether Tricks goes back to New York or continues down this path toward her destruction.
Good thing really, that Tiago is open to negotiation...on his terms. It's just too bad there are so many good--political--objections.
The Characters
The Elder Races are made up of the Wyrkind (based in New York), the Light Fae (elves, centered in Charleston, South Carolina) and Dark Fae (based in Chicago), Demonkind (Houston), Nightkind (vampires took over San Francisco and the Pacific Northwest), "human witches (Louisville), and all manner of monstrous creatures".
Thistle Periwinkle, a.k.a., Tricks, was their PR faerie and the Sentinels taught her every trick in the book. With the death of her usurper uncle, Tricks, now Niniane Lorelle, has declared her ancestry and claimed her throne. Urian murdered her parents, King Rhian and Queen Shaylee, and brothers to take the throne.
Tiago Black Eagle is a thunderbird, a.k.a., Dr. Death behind his back. Worshipped as a god for centuries, Tiago is now the leader of Dragos' armies. Tucker is a badger shifter who assembled supplies for Tiago in Chicago. Scott Hughes is the hotel manager...poor baby.
Dragos Cuelebre is the Lord of the Wyrkind demesne and now mated to the pregnant Pia. His Sentinels include the gryphons who keep the peace in the Wyr demesne: Rune is his First, Bayne, Constantine, and Graydon. Aryal is a harpy and in charge of investigations. The head of security is a gargoyle, Grym, who spends a bit of time" hauling Aryal's ass out of trouble".
Lieutenant Cameron Rogers is a twenty-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department and leads the task force for Niniane's protection. Cam later accepts an invite to the coronation and a job offer. Dr. Seremela Telemar, a medusa, is the medical examiner in charge of the magic morgue in Chicago where the bodies offer up some clues.
The Dark Fae delegation sent to meet Tricks in Chicago includes Chancellor Aubrey and Naida Riordan (left behind at the Chicago house to make preparations for Niniane's reception); Justice Kellen Trevenan; and, Commander Arethusa Shiron, current head of Dark Fae military forces. Her men include Captain Durin and Hefeydd.
Geril was Niniane's cousin. The Elder Races send a representative to Chicago to arbitrate after two assassination attempts against Niniane: Vampyre Councillor of the Elder Tribunal Carling Severan. Rhoswen is her assistant while Duncan is extra help.
Urien was the Dark Fae King killed by Dragos for his kidnapping of his woman. Clarence is the moron who kicked back and filmed the attack on Niniane and posted it to YouTube without thinking maybe a call to 911 or a helping hand would be decent.
The Cover
The cover is a greeny-gray and blue-black. A nightlit, lightning-struck cityscape with a huge flat, paved surface between it and a bridge pillar where Tiago stands, one foot propped up, hands at his hips with his naked, muscled torso gleaming, the barbed wire tatts obvious on his biceps.
The title refers to Taigo's power over storms for Niniane is this Storm's Heart.

Review Courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales
Quick & Dirty: An engaging follow-up to Dragon Bound, full of sarcastic, snarky humor and a steamy, sweet romance.
Opening Sentence: You didn't ignore a summons roared from the Lord of the Wyr in New York, since it usually heralded a disaster of some proportion.
The Review:
I have read that most people where worried about reading Storm's Heart because they enjoyed Dragon Bound so much. I was the opposite, I really looked forward to reading Storm's Heart because I liked Tricks so much as a secondary character that I couldn't wait to learn more about her. Add Tiago; an ancient Thunderbird, to the mix and it has to be good right? Absolutely! I enjoyed Thea Harrison's second installment of the Elder Races.
We first meet Tricks in Dragon Bound as the PR face of Cuelebre Enterprises. At the end of Dragon Bound we learn that Tricks is really Niniane Lorelle, the heir to the Dark Fae throne. Niniane's character was portrayed slightly different than in the first book, although she was still spunky and snarky, which was what drew me to her. I was put off with her being so insecure and whinny in the beginning, but after learning about her past and the way her entire family was slaughtered by her evil Uncle Urin, I understood her reluctance at wanting to return home to Adriyel to become Queen. Niniane was comfortable and secure working for Dragos and really hadn't expected to ever return home so when faced with her destiny, she becomes scared and insecure and has to truly face her past for the first time. In the end, Niniane became a character that I could really appreciate and respect.
Tiago is a warlord, the head of Dragos' private army and enjoys living tooth and claw, fighting wyr battles. Tiago is a Thunderbird, who is able to wield thunder and lighting. He is as ancient as Dragos and was once worshipped as a god. He has a very aggressive, feral personality that matches his beast form perfectly. Tiago is taken by surprise when he reacts so strongly to learning about an assassination attempt against Niniane and takes it upon himself to find her and keep her safe while she negotiates the dangerous, Dark Fae Political Court.
Tiago provides the support that Niniane needs to overcome her past and realize that she can be herself and still be Queen. Niniane tries several times to push him away because it's not acceptable to the Dark Fae for their Queen to be involved with a Wyr. Tiago sometimes comes off as an over protective, domineering, Neanderthal that has no people skills, but watching his transformation to a behind the scenes supporter is awesome, because you know that he really cares for Niniane. It is funny to watch their banter as they go through the hardheaded stage of trying to deny their feelings and push each other to the edge. When they both let go and embrace their feelings it is hot and explosive, with several steamy scenes. I loved that Tiago cared enough to take a backseat and let her rule, when it completely went against his nature. He learns that he enjoys his role.
Storm's Heart has a much darker feel, due to the violence of the past. Niniane and Tiago provide some humor but overall the storyline is harsher. It was also much slower paced and tended to drag somewhat in the middle. I was also disappointed that more of the story didn't take place in Adriyel instead of mainly at the hotel in Chicago. Harrison continues to impress me with her amazing mythical, magical world. It was interesting to learn more about the political structures within the race and Harrison also introduces new races and characters along with incorporating previous characters as well.
Overall, Harrison provides a strong follow up to Dragon Bound. She has piqued my interest with the possibilities of future storylines and leaves me counting down the days until the next installment hits the shelves.
The Elder Races Series:
1. Dragon Bound
2. Storm's Heart
3. Serpent's Kiss
4. Oracle's Moon

Two centuries ago Urien murdered the royal family. Only he failed to kill his niece Dark Fae Princess Niniane "Tricks" Lorelle. After witnessing the atrocities, she fled to the protection of Lord of the Wyrn Dragos. When Urien kidnaps Dragos' mate, he kills the usurper.
In Chicago where Tricks hides, an assassination attempt on her leads to ancient thunderbird Wyr warrior Tiago Black Eagle sent to protect the new Dark Fae Queen. Each is shocked with the attraction between them. However, she knows she must prove her independence if she is to take the throne that is rightfully hers; and he knows her safety comes before his desire so he must keep her safe while ferreting out the assassin.
The second Elder Races romantic fantasy (see Dragon Bound) is an entertaining tale filled with betrayal and blood feuds that give the story line (even with a stay in GPS Chicago) a sort of Scottish historical Highlander feel. The moderate pace allows the audience to fully dive into the Harrison realm where the supernatural seem natural. Sub-genre readers will enjoy Tricks' saga summed up by her with her adding the fourth definition of a Queen to the dictionary: "a royal pain in the ass".

All of the Elder Races thought there would be trouble when long lost heir to the Dark Fae throne Thistle "Tricks" Periwinkle/Niniane Lorelle ascended. What they didn't know was that she'd come to claim her throne with her own personal Wyr Warlord in the form of T-Bird/Dr. Death. Tricks & Dr. Death (Tiago Black Eagle) were great together while living the adage of opposites attract as every aspect of their looks and personalities were opposite.
The hazards of political intrigue, assassination attempts and roiling emotions serve as a perfect backdrop for this volatile couple to find their way to the land of HEA. The absurdity of some of Trick's shallow antics felt true as they made you laugh out loud and commiserated with Tiago as he could only shake his head. They also underscored the growth arc for her character.
The layers unraveling the assassination plot were expertly woven with the layers of the romance making both very satisfying threads for the overall story. There are brief peeks at the secondary characters bringing us up to date and laying the foundation for the next installment.

The world knows Thistle "Tricks" Periwinkle well - what they don't know is that the same woman who has been the public face for the Wyr world, is also Princess Niniane Lorelle, heir to the Dark Fae throne. Niniane barely escaped with her life when her uncle staged a coup and murdered her family to take over the throne. Now her uncle is dead, and even though she has no desire to be queen, Niniane knows her duty and has left the life she has known for so long to rule her people.
Tiago Black Eagle is one of the ancient Wyr - the Thunderbird of legend. A warrior who has little time or patience for anyone who goes against his advice Tiago can't believe he lost the battle with one of the Wyr security team to go with Niniane to keep her safe. All that changes when he sees an attack on Niniane from Dark Fae. Heck the entire world saw that attack. One of the best trackers ever, Tiago sets out to find Niniane and whether she likes it or not - he is going to protect her.
Niniane finally agrees to have Tiago protect her - not that he was going to lose this battle now. What amazes both of them even more is the feelings that have suddenly sprung up between them. Niniane knows the Dark Fae won't accept a Wyr, which is why she left to begin this journey alone. However, sometimes you just can't deny what the heart wants. Tiago knows only two things as the time comes closer to leave the human world and travel to the Dark Fae home - there are still people out to kill Niniane, and he must have her as his mate to survive. The passion between them burns high and hot as the danger comes too close for comfort. When the final showdown occurs, the only question is, will they have to lose their love in order to win the day, or can love really conquer all?
A hidden princess and a legendary man come together with a passion that will rock more than one world. Niniane and Tiago do just that in Storm's Heart. After meeting both Niniane and Tiago in Dragon Bound, I was expecting fireworks to fly and I was not disappointed. While I could understand the reasons why Niniane tried to do it on her own, I cheered when Tiago showed up and took over both her protection and her heart. I'm not sure which kept me on edge more, the passion between Niniane and Tiago, or the suspense of who was behind the attacks on Niniane. As the final battle unfolded, I was unable to stop reading until I turned the last page, and then I freely admit I immediately turned around and read it all over again. Storm's Heart is filled with passion, suspense, humor, and a love that will linger beyond infinity. If you haven't guessed yet, this is definitely a Joyfully Recommended must read in my opinion. I can't wait until the next book in this world comes out.

Storm's Heart starts immediately after events in Dragon Bound.
Two hundred years ago, princess Niniane Lorelle's uncle, Uriel murdered her parents and siblings and claimed the throne for himself. Naniane was able to escape and find protection with the Wyr demesne. While living with the Wyr she assumed the new identity of Thistle "Tricks" Periwinkle and worked for Cuelebre Enterprise as the P.R. representative of the company. After the death of the Dark Fae King Uriel Niniane decides to come out to the public and announces who she really is, the heir to the Dark Fae Throne. Some magical tests confirmed her identity and after a conversation with Dragos, the most powerful Wyr in the planet (and our hero from Dragon Bound) it is decided she should travel alone from New York to Chicago to meet with the representatives from The Dark Fae for the arrangements to her ascension to the throne. She travels to Chicago alone because she doesn't want to involve the Wry with the Dark Fae politics.
Couple of days later a video posted in Youtube shows Niniane been attacked by three members of the Dark Fae. Thanks to the training she received during her 200 years with the Wry and to her poison stilettos she is able to kill them. Now, nobody knows where she is. She has disappeared after the fight.
After seeing the video Dragos sends Tiago Black Eagle to track Niniane, and bring her back to New York.
Tiago also known as Dr. Death is head of military operations for the Wyr demesne and one of the best trackers in the world. Couple of hours after arriving in Chicago Tiago finds Niniane in a cheap motel, she is drunk and injured; she was stabbed during the fight. Seeing the tiny little fae injured awakens in Tiago his most primitive instinct of protection. He declares he won't leave her alone and become her protector shadowing her every move. Niniane wants and appreciates the protection Tiago offers her, but if he wants to stay with her and keep her safe he has to play by her rules. Tiago finds Niniane an infuriating sexy little woman who arouses in him feelings he had never felt before. He acquiesced in her requests just to be able to stay with her and keep her safe.
I loved Tricks aka Niniane in Dragon Bound, she was funny, spirited and smart. And was looking forward to read her story.
In Storm's Heart Niniane needs to leave Tricks behind, she is going to become the Queen of the Dark Fae and needs to start behaving accordingly. However much she tries Tricks is always under the surface, and I really loved that about her. She is still as charming as ever but now she is a more responsible version of herself, one that has to think about the welfare of other before hers, but still she is the funny and spirited woman we met in Dragon Bound. She has insecurities and doubts but she has a strong character, and for her there is not other option than to go forward. She may have feeling for Tiago and may want to be with him, but she knows that if he doesn't respect her opinions and let her do what she has to do he is not the man for her.
I'm a sucker for alpha males. You give me a beta male and I will be yawning trough the pages but you give me one like Tiago, who is described as a Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) look-alike and I will have to wear a bib while reading the book for all the drooling I will be doing. On the beginning Tiago had a little bit of a caveman behavior, Niniane is awaking in him instincts and feelings he didn't know he had and he is just reacting to them without thinking. If for him were he would keep Niniane wrapped in bubble wrap, so nothing might happen to her. But when he realizes his behavior is pulling Niniane away, and what she really needs is a real partnership not a bossy mate, he changes and gives her exactly what she needs, while still being a very strong and protective man. *swoon and drools*
Niniane and Tiago have met before but they had never gone beyond couple of short conversations/fights during the 200 years Niniane spend with the Wyr. Now they find themselves attracted to each other in a very difficult moment. But even though the times are hard they make the relationship a believable one with lots of banter and humor and with a sexual tension of the charts.
In Storm's Heart we see again Rune and Arya the Harpy. Rune is the same sexy, caring and powerful man we met in Dragon Bound. But Arya made me changed my opinion of her drastically. I really didn't like her in Dragon Bound but in Storm's Heart we see more of the real her and let me tell you she is awesome and I can't wait to read her story.
In this book Mrs. Harrison also introduces us with a new race, the Vampyre and with them their queen Carling. Carling is a very intriguing woman, she is very powerful but I felt her full of sorrow too. She is going to be the heroine and Rune's love interest in the next installment Serpent's Kiss.
The world Mrs. Harrison created is very rich and vivid. I loved how she interacts Wry with Vampyres and Fae and even a Djinn. I would have liked to know more about the Fae land of Adriyel and the Dark Fae Court.
Even though we had Rune and Arya I miss the rest of the New York gang, also I would have loved to see more of Pia and Dragos.
All in all I really loved Storm's Heart, I loved its characters, its well-developed plot and creative world. I think Storm's Heart is a great addition to a great series. A series that has quickly become one of my favorite Paranormal Romance series and one I cannot recommend enough.
I will be looking forward for October 4th to get my greedy hands on Rune, pardon, Serpent's Kiss.

I really liked Tricks in Dragon Bound. She was fun and feisty and didn't take crap from anyone. It was great seeing her get her own book and to see how becoming the future Queen of the Dark Fairies had changed her. I was happy to see that it didn't really change her at all. She had to be a little careful about who she was her normal self around, but for the most part she was the fun, feisty, take no crap Tricks that I loved in Dragon Bound.
Her chemistry with Tiago was hot, but I felt like their relationship was a tad rushed because I never really got a good feeling for who Tiago was. We got glimpses here and there and we were told that he was this brutish alpha male, but I just didn't really feel like we developed his character much at all. Which sucks cause he's thousands of years old which means he has a crap ton of history and things that have shaped him into who he is. He sadly often felt like every other brutish alpha male ever created.
There were some other minor characters that I enjoyed seeing and then some returning characters that were enjoyable in both books. I didn't like this as much as I liked Dragon Bound, but overall it was still great and I'll definitely be continuing on with the series.

I listened to this as an audiobook, narrated by Sophie Eastlake, so my review is based on that version.
This is the second book in the Elder Races series, but it could have been listened to without hearing the first book, Dragon Bound . There are references to things that happened in the first book but not enough so that you would have been lost if you didn't read it.
This story takes up where the first left off and is the love story of Tricks (cute little dark Fae princess) and Tiago (Big ole Thunderbird). There are many circumstances that keep Tricks and Tiago apart including themselves. Although they both feel an attraction to each other, they are hesitant to take the big step that will mate them for life.
There are also many Dark Fae that don't want Tricks to ascend to the throne so every once in a while there will be an assassination attempt on her. Between the assassination attempts and the friends that are trying to keep them apart, the world just seems against the possibility of Tricks and Tiago ever being together.
This story had a slow build up to the ultimate conclusion. There was a point where I was just thinking `get on with it and mate already will ya?' but that is just my impatient self. Overall it is a good second book and I believe those that enjoyed the first book, Dragon Bound , will also enjoy this story.
The Narration Review
This audiobook was narrated by Sophie Eastlake who was also the narrator for the first book. She has a great story telling voice that is very easy to listen to. Sophie sounds youngish, so I always blush for her when she has to say sexually explicit things. LoL

In STORM'S HEART, Niniane is a Faerie princess struggling with the tragedy of her past and Tiago is a Thunderbird facing his future. Between the two of them, the chemistry, both sexual and verbal, is undeniable. While Tiago's introduction is a little clunky with assurances that he and Niniane don't know each other well, despite moving in the same circles for 200 years, once the story brings them together it's fireworks and fast action until book's end.
While STORM'S HEART doesn't evoke as much humor as DRAGON BOUND, if only because of the heartbreaking nature of Niniane's past, the story doesn't suffer from the slightly more somber tone. The murder of Niniane's parents and little brothers is a trauma that has always haunted her, and going back into the treacherous depths of Dark Faerie to claim her throne takes away whatever measure of peace she had found in the centuries since that night. Niniane's vulnerability touches the heart, and Tiago's protective nature is exactly the irrevocable support she needs. Despite the heavier subject matter, this is by no means a dark book. The sexual chemistry is potent, some of Niniane's "Tricks" side comes through for comic relief, and Tiago munching on pastries and deciding that he likes armchair warfare just fine is pretty entertaining as well. Tiago's reactions and asides stole the show for me, and once again, I find that Harrison's hero has charmed me alongside the heroine.
On the whole, STORM'S HEART is fast paced, heart warming, and entertaining. I really like that the sexual chemistry of mating is never used as a substitute for characters choosing to be in the relationship (and it simplifies trust issues significantly), making it a narrative device that works very well in these books. While STORM'S HEART hasn't supplanted DRAGON BOUND as my favorite thus far, I can't put down one Elder Races books without wishing I could pick up the next immediately. Given the build up from STORM'S HEART, I'll be anxiously awaiting Rune and Carling's story in SERPENT'S KISS.

At the end of Dragon Bound, we discover that Tricks (Thistle Periwinkle), Dragos' PR director, is actually Niniane Lorelle, heir to the Dark Fae throne. She returns to Chicago to meet with her cousins as she prepares to accept her responsibilities as Queen and is almost assassinated. Tiago Black Eagle, one of Dragos' most powerful Wyr sentinels, is dispatched to protect Niniane until she completes her ascension to the throne. They didn't count on, however, their passionate connection to each other.
There is a pretty good mix of mystery, action and romance in this story. While they know who tried to kill Niniane, those behind the attempts are unknown. There are also a host of interesting characters in this complex world who will keep you guessing about their motives and agenda. You won't know who is a friend or foe and that keeps things suspenseful. The romance between Tiago and Niniane is off the charts steamy but also problematic.
We see a different side of Niniane as she battles her insecurities about being up for the challenge of her new role by using humor and skills from her previous job. Tiago also struggles with his dominating senses, learning to be more measured and respectful of Niniane.
I liked the story, even though at times the romance seemed to dominate the action. It eventually finds its balance and lands in a good place. While not quite rising to the level of Dragon Bound, this book does the series justice and I'm looking forward to the next installment.

By the end of Dragon Bound, Dragos had killed the crooked Dark Fae King, Urien, setting up Tricks, whose real name is Niniane to be the new Queen. Niniane's father (the previous king before Urien) and family were slaughtered by Urien, but she escaped and for the past 200 years has taken refuge with the Wyr demesne. During this time, she became family to them - they accepted her, loved her and trained her.
But now she has a duty she must fulfill. It was decided that to show her strength, and for political reasons, to not drag the Wyr with her when she claims the throne - so off she goes alone. But things soon turn dicey. Her cousin and other Dark Fae companion attempt to assassinate her. Luckily her training and poison filled stiletto heels allow her to kill them and stay alive, only with a stab wound. Scared and tired, she flees to a hotel to hideout until she can think straight and heal. When members of Dragos' Wyr clan see this attack on a viral cell phone video and can't get in touch with her, Tiago, one of Dragos' warlords goes to find her.
One of the best trackers the Wyr have, Tiago soon finds Niniane, drunk, wounded, and just silly. Tiago feels a strong, overwhelming need to protect Niniane and becomes determined to get her safely to her coronation. But after another assassination attempt, this one from what looks like Wyr, they have quite the battle on their hands.
I loved and adored Dragon Bound earlier this year. Storm's Heart, book two in Thea Harrison's Elder Races series is a good follow up. I really love her voice, and the way she writes her characters. Tiago is just as bad ass as Dragos is. A hard core alpha, when the mating process starts, everyone better watch out, because he is going to have Niniane no matter what anyone says - even Niniane. He is so intense, so powerful, and he is nicknamed Dr. Death - and he earns that nickname time and time again in this book.
Tricks (as we know her from Dragon Bound) aka Niniane had me laughing out loud in the first few chapters of this book. Her and Tiago have known each other for 200 years, but have never acted on a physical attraction (which is my one complaint - I'll get to that in a minute) When Tiago tracks her down to her hotel room, Niniane is so drunk, the things that come out of her mouth (and said in her head) made me giggle non-stop. And of course that just pissed off Tiago more that he had to deal with an injured, drunk faerie.
*****
"Whoa," she said. She looked up - or down, as it were - at Tiago's crotch, which had stopped right in front of her. He was one scary mean-looking oversized barbarian, in black jeans, black boots and black leather vest. He bristled with weapons and anger, and muscles bulged everywhere. His crotch sported a significant bulge too. A very significant bulge. She licked her lips. She might be drunk but she wasn't dead. She wouldn't be forgetting this sight in a hurry.
Obsidian eyes glittered. "Tricks, what the hell? Seriously."
*****
In Dragon Bound, the romance was quick to happen and I didn't have a problem with it. But I did question in Storm's Heart, why now? Tiago and Ninane have known each other 200 years. Why the urgent mating and crazy feelings on both sides? Tiago just seems to come out of nowhere with this uber protectiveness. Now, once we get into the romance, I'm not complaining, I fell in love with both characters and I found their romance sweet and the actual build up - the doubt, the angst, the tension done well. They also have this very entertaining banter throughout the book.

He stopped the SUV dead.
She sat frozen as she stared at him, her mouth open. The fancy hybrid engine bawled a complaint and stalled.
Tiago came around to the driver's side and yanked the door open, He gripped the edge of the roof with both hands and glared at her. He was already soaked. She watched with eyes gone huge and round as a drop of water slid down one lean, hard cheek where a muscle twitched.
The knife would had hurt too much for her to put on the seat belt. Wincing, she swiveled with care to face him. The rain pelted her bare legs and arms.
Maybe it was time to get cute. Her lower lip stuck out and her forehead wrinkled. In a small uncertain voice, she said, "Sowwy?"
If anything, that seemed to make him angrier.

There are a fewer slower parts in the middle of this one, but I think this is a very solid follow-up to Dragon Bound and my excitement for this series is still very high. Besides the Fae and Wyr, we get a look into the vampire culture, and get a nice glimpse into Rune's future mate in book three.

Ok, this is good!
I was introduced to Tricks (Niniane) and Tiago in book one and you get interested in their relationship and that is why you have to read book 2. This is how Thea gets you! In this book, you learn more about the Vampire Queen and there is a scene where she steps out of the lake, sans clothing, and Rune takes a special interest. So guess what book 3 is about...I have to read it!!
Anyway, this is about book 2. So Niniane is the true heir to the Dark Fae throne. So she has come out of hiding since the King has been killed, rightfully deserved. She as been under the protection of the Wyrs which the Dark Fae are not happy about so people keep trying to kill her. Here comes Tiago and he is her bodyguard but of course he ends up falling in love with her. They run into a lot of problems because she is the future queen, the Dark Fae will never accept him as her King. If they have children, the half breeds will not be accepted so this is all stuff they have to think about. Also I did not know who the killer was till the very end so it was well written and had some twists and turns.
Overall good read!

Dragon bound, first book in this series, was very good.
Here, we have a truly fun couple who are not at all "copy/paste" from the other book, they have different characters and interests and behave accordingly, but still are fun to be with. For the first time I have read the huge warrior he-man with the tiny cutie done in a way that I can relate to. He respects her and listens to her and even accepts her saying no or keeping a secret because she knows best on some topic. And physically, no matter the provocation, he is believable as putting her physical safety first. I had fun and found their relationship and love convincing.
The plot was very thin, really, and the ending so very non- closing - just a momentary lull in their political battles - that I am not happy enough in this respect . So one star less.
(I do hope that these novels are connected in such a way that I do not have to read all the series and in order. I dislike tha, and the ending of this book has me a bit worried as to thatt.)
Anyway, hooked on her heroes and heroines, and looking eagerly forward to more.

This is my new favorite series. I was getting burnt out on poorly written PRN romance books. Finally, I have found another great one!
Tricks and Tiago are fun, believable, and likable. The characters are well developed, the story is interesting and the romance feels genuine. The novel flows really well and the balance between action and romance is perfect.
I loved how perfect Tricks appeared yet she had so many issues. She had a tragic past she needed to accept in order to move forward, she had to have so much courage to move forward with nobody to rely on, and she was nervous and scared to do it. Her reactions to situations were reasonable and not overly emotional. All of that combined to make her a lovable character.
Tiago is great. He knows he wants Tricks and works so hard to get her. He's such a tough guy but opens up and gives himself fully to Tricks. He's also the perfect amount of possessive Alpha male but always treats Tricks with respect and kindness. It's so easy to see why they love each other.

The story of Niniane "Tricks" and Tiego was a good read and i did enjoy it, but I did feel like Storm's Heart had a lot of simularities with Dragon Bound. I felt like the characters were the same, i.e. Niniane is the independant and witty heroine that is on the run, hiding for fear of death threats on her life, it's a lot like Pia. Likewise, Tiego is the powerful, short tempered uber male who falls for the small fairy and will do anything to protect her, this reminds me a lot of Dragos. Don't get me wrong though, I did enjoy reading the story and Trick's witty nature made for an amusing read, I just wish that the character dynamics were different and stood out a little more. I am excited about Rune's story Serpent's Kiss and from reading the sneak peek, it looks like a good one. Overall Thea Harrison paints a vivid picture of her world that truely does take you for a ride. I enjoyed Storm's Heart and I look forward to more books from this author.

Elder Races Book 2 Storms Heat
I already did a review on the first book in this series so am not sure if there will be spoilers from that book in this review so please be warned.
In book two you get to follow two of the characters that we were introduced to in Dragos and pias story. First
we have Tiago, he is a fighter, and he has been a warrior all his life and just like Dragos he thinks when he speaks
everyone should listen and obey. But unlike Dragos who I felt was the more stern of the two he does has a softer
side I think. Then we have Ninanne she is the long lost heir to the Dark Fae throne. He uncle killed her entire
family and she barley escaped to take refugee and seek safety in the home of Dragos and the other Wry.
She had lived with them for (I think it was like 200 yrs but don't quote me) a long time hiding out from her
murderous uncle that wished her dead as well.
Now with her Uncle finally taken care of (and I wont tell you what happened you have to read the first book
to find out) she must now ascend to the throne that is her birthright. We learned in book one that Tiago and
Ninanne (she was called Tricks by the wry in the first installment of this series) have a special relationship.
In the first book you can pick up on the underlying tension and attraction the two might have for each
other. So when we start off book two all is not well for Ninanne as her uncle ruled the Dark fae kingdom for
a long time and had maybe as many followers as he had haters, MAYBE. She gets herself into some trouble
and needs help that she does not want to ask for or admit to herself she needs. Tiago is sent by Dragos
to make sure that Ninanne is ok, as he was the wry that spoke out when she was leaving and said she needed
protection to go with her and was ignored. This starts the beginning of a whole lot more than either of
these two thought was going to happen.
Between trying to become a good queen, fighting her ever growing attraction for Tiago, trying to fight his every
move at every turn, trying to make good relationships with the people she should have grown up with but
has not know forever, trying to find out the people who helped her uncle murder her whole family, and
trying herself to stay alive while someone is trying to kill her and take the throne themselves, we have
another wonderful installment of the ELDER RACES. Don't forget to throw in some vampires though as if
everyone else wasn't enough for her to handle.
I pretty much figured out upon first meeting the people behind all the assassination attempts and who they
were, but that doesn't deflect from the fact that this is another well written, attention grabbing book. In
it you also get to meet the next two people from book three, although we have met at least one of them in
book one. You get more character depth in each person as the series goes along which is nice. And as I said
before in my other review these characters are constantly being evolved and I love that they are in all the
books to follow their own story.
Another great read and strong recommendation for this series. Well folks off to read book 3 Ill let you
Know how that one turns out soon.

Niniane(Tricks aka Thistle Periwinkle) wasn't having the best week. She had to leave her job as head of PR for Cuelebre Enterprises in New York. She was expected to take the throne as queen of the Dark Fae, after her boss Dragos killed her evil uncle and king, Urien. Urien had usurped her father's throne after brutally slaying her entire family and forcing Niniane to find sanctuary in the Wyr faction. Now in Chicago to meet with the Dark Fae delegation, she is the victim of an attempted assasination. Tiago, a warlord commander for the Wyr is going to protect Niniane whether she wants it or not, but first he has to catch her. That's a lot harder than you'd think.
In a series, like Thea Harrison's Elder Races, the second book can sometimes be a let down. So, I was a teeny bit apprehensive when I started to read this book. Hah, what a waste of time. This book was SUPERB! Tiago is a Thunderbird shifter, and one sexy, bad dude. Alpha to the max, Tiago is a perfect match for the tiny Fae queen. The story moves at a fairly rapid pace and the story changes and twists are guaranteed to keep the reader on the edge of their seat. We get to spend quite a bit of time with Rune ( a sexy blonde Gryphon) and Aryal( a take no guff Harpy), who were two of my favorite characters from Dragon Bound. We're also introduced to some new characters who show quite a bit of promise. especially from the vampyre faction.
Ms. Harrison has such a talent with the dialogue of her character's. I never know what to expect. She doesn't skimp on the snark and attitude, which makes her a goddess in my estimation. She also has a gifted hand with the more erotic portions of her books. Whew! She can make your palms sweat. Tiago, for all his ancient age, had quite the turn of a modern phrase, and was quite adept with his usage of modern sexual vernacular. In otherwords, my boy could flat out do the dirty talk.
Loved it! Tricks was no slouch in the bedroom either, evidently the Fae are VERY flexible. *snort* It's not all rolls and romps, though. There are some very somber occurrences, so be prepared. No spoilers, but things went down that I DID NOT see coming. I am positively dying for Runes book to come out. It's the next book in this awesome squared series, and one I will definitely have on pre-order. Kudos to you Thea Harrison for a great job.

Thea Harrison has a gift for writing sexy Alpha heroes. First, she gave us Dragos... And now we have Tiago. (Purrr.) We first met the ancient thunderbird during the last story and honestly, I was a little disappointed that he would be the next Wyr to get his own book. We didn't really get to know him in Dragon Bound, except as a hulking, intimidating sentinel, who was fighting with Tricks. But sometimes an author knows what we want better than we do. This is one of those times.
As the story begins, Tricks has left the Wyr kingdom behind and is going to claim her place as the Queen of the Dark Fae. Things go bad quickly, when she becomes a target for assassination. So Dragos sends Tiago to find and protect her.
Even though Tiago and Tricks both worked for Dragos for hundreds of years, they didn't interact much. Now that they are thrown together, the fireworks are unmistakable. Tiago is commanding, powerful and sexy. And Tricks eats it up with a spoon. The sexual tension between these two was outstanding! What's more, there were plenty of opportunities for familiar tropes to take hold: lack of communication; big misunderstandings; self-sacrifice for the other person's supposed happiness or safety. I kept waiting for the inevitable, familiar roadblocks to fly up. There was one scene in a nightclub, where I was just so sure we were going to have all three devices take hold at once... I swear I was already rolling my eyes. But Thea Harrison sidesteps the conventional foils, leaving me jumping up and down on the sofa, hooting like an idiot. (Yes, I can admit that.)
In the meantime, there is a great storyline going on. We're treated to lots of action, as Tricks and Tiago fend off her enemies. And we've got a great mystery to solve as our couple works to figure out who is trying to kill her. As much as we learned about the Wyr in the last book, now we're getting a peek inside some of the other Elder Races. Harrison reveals more details about the inner workings of the Dark Fae and the Vampyres. And we travel to Adriyel, the magical Dark Fae land.
This book gave me everything I wanted. A hot Alpha hero, a smart and resourceful heroine... love, sex, action, adventure, strong secondary characters, and world building that is both consistent and easy to understand. The Elder Races series is a PNR fan's dream. Thank you, thank you, Thea Harrison. I'm pretty sure I love you. 5 stars.

Ms Harrison has created another fantastic story in her Elder Races world.
Niniane (Tricks), a dark Fae princess has been hiding at Dragos's wyr for the last 200 years. At her Uncle Urien's death (yay) Niniane goes back home to rule her people as their Queen. However when assassination attempts spoil her plans Tiago the Thunderbird shows up 'help' Niniane.
I love Niniane, she is a flirty, girly girl who really is interested in everyone and their lives. I think Tiago is perfect for Tricks because he will support and protect her as the Dark Fae Queen but he will also love Niniane for herself.

Storm's Heart is full of humor, political problems and maneuvers, surprises, and a hot romance. I laughed out loud a few times while reading this book. Tiago is an alpha male who wears weapons all the time and is happiest when fighting a war. Downtime bores him.
Tricks stood up to Tiago when she felt he was being too overbearing. (I will not spoil it but there is a scene where someone throws something. I almost fell off my chair laughing) After all, she is going to be the Dark Fae Queen. Tricks has to be in charge and make decisions. But she is willing to hear advice from all sorts of people, especially Tiago.
Tiago was great in this book. But compared to Dragos, in the first book Dragon Bound, I like Dragos better than Tiago. Dragos was very, very aggressive in a "I want it my way right now" or I will destroy my enemies with my claws and eat their horses. Tiago is also aggressive but many times has to defer to Tricks because she is going to be Queen and they have to let her be the leader. Also, the happy ever after for Tiago and Tricks was not as "happy ending" as I would have liked. Dragos and Pia had a very clear happy ending.
Overall I loved this book. I will be rereading it in the future many times. I highly recommend author Thea Harrison.

So often sophomore books in a series are a disappointment, especially when the first is a spellbinder. Thea does not disappoint in this regard; her characters and plot continue to be fascinating, compelling, and hot. Others have already summmed up the plot so I shan't other than to say that I am mesmerized by the small clues and subtle twists in Thea's work. Tricks is a smart, feist heroine and Tiago is sexy as all getout. Can't wait for more of the Elder Races!

Again, another good read in the Elder Races series. I particularly like the main characters. The author picks up on them from their mention in the previous book & builds a completely new story around them as you learn more about their characters. A good read.

This book got me excited! I love a good paranormal book with a lot of action and this one did not disappoint. The characters are wonderfully drawn out and descriptions so rich you can see them in your mind.
Thea Harrison is a writer with a multitude of talent and I look forward to reading more of her work. Definitely pick up this series!

I really enjoyed the first book in this series and I was looking forward to reading Tricks' story but I couldn't stand her in this book. I almost quit reading when she ran away from Tiago for the second time. That's one thing I can't stand in a romance novel: the heroine's life is in danger and she has this strong capable alpha male trying to help her and she runs away to face it alone. Ugh!! Another thing that bothered me was that Tiago kept treating her like she was a child(he even called her pip-squeak), not only was she very small like one but he literally carried her around all the time. He even made all her decisions for her.
There were a few more minor annoyances such as all the names and places that started with A such as Adriyel, Arethusa, Aryal and Aubrey and when Niniane kept calling Tiago "Mr. Incredible".
Overall the story dragged for me and I thought it was just a basic paranormal romace with a basic alpha male hero/TSTL heroine. I'm not so sure I'll pick up the next one.

I absolutely loved her first book Dragon Bound. This one was good but not as good as the first one. She does have a lively sense of humor for her books and I enjoy them. Looking forward to her next new release in October.

Okay I loved, absolutely loved, Dragon Bound. I have to say that I hated this book. I couldn't get into the h and h at all. I can't pinpoint what it is about this book that I disliked so much. I guess I expected too much after how good her previous book was.
