It was probably worthy of more review stars but I was so miffed at it not being a fairy tale that i was in a temper with the book. Why on earth was it billed as a fairy tale? It would have been terrific to have this real live fairy princess living in America. Through most of the first chapter I thought "What a wonderful plot, having fairy people living openly." And to have her fall for a cowboy? - such innovation! Oh dear... turned out the book was about an ordinary human princess meeting a cowboy. A writer should never promise what she cant deliver.

I enjoyed this clean, contemporary western story that has a fairy tale feel to it. Take a former Navy Seal, Gideon, who after an injury had to give up his military career and move back to Texas to run the family ranch. While going to the airport to pick up his brother Matt who is home on leave, he noticed a banging in the back of the truck. What a shock to find a freezing woman in an evening gown stowed away. Princess Alessandra of Glorvaird is on the run and in hiding after an assassination attempt on her life in New York that killed her bodyguard. Gideon is on full alert to try and keep her safe until her security team says it is ok to come home.

The plot has two people, from two different lifestyles thrown together in a life and death situation. Gideon’s military training keeps him on full alert to keep her safe and on her way back home. Allie, as they are calling her is anything but a spoiled Princess. She cooks and cleans in his home and never makes demands. But how can two people, two different countries, two different lifestyles, and agendas make a relationship work? When there is love involved, you are more willing to find the path and make it work. This is a sweet, clean story with charming characters, entertaining dialog and an HEA ending. I look forward to reading more in this series. Disclosure: I was provided with an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts, opinions, and ratings are my own.

I received an ARC of this book, leaving my honest opinion. This is a clean romance with great characters throughout the story. Princess Alessandra meets former SEAL/cowboy Gideon, this is a great mixture between fairy tales and cowboys. They meet in a different way along with Gideon's brother Matt who is on leave from the military. I like how the author brings some of Alessandra's staff from home and their connection, Chef Marco who helps her in the kitchen in the early mornings as well as friends Krissy & Bella who are housemaids.
I really like the connection she finds with Carrie, Matt and Gideon's sister and her daughter Scarlet, add in the "ranch hands" and you have a family. I hope to find out what Matt's keeping to himself in the series that I plan on reading.

Once upon a time . . . . . a beautiful princess runs for her life . . . .. hiding in the back of a pick up truck belonging to a handsome cowboy, (in this case, disguised as a grumpy grizzly bear) and begins her not-so-happily-ever-after life as a run-away.

Gideon Hale is travelling home from a Dallas airport when he discovers a nearly frozen stowaway, a very beautiful nearly frozen stowaway, in the back of his truck. What can this soldier-turned-cowboy possibly do with a displaced princess on a sprawling Texas cattle ranch?

Surprisingly, Princess Alessandra of Glorvaird fits perfectly into life on the ranch. However, Gideon knows that it's only a matter of time before it's safe enough for her to go home, or the threats on her life follow her to Texas . . . . . or both. Will this "fairy tale romance" have a happy ending?

Enjoy this western twist to the classic "Snow White" tale! I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest opinion.

I enjoyed this novella about a modern day princess. The author did a great job portraying her desperation to escape, her fear of danger, and trauma from the recent violence. Gideon is a pretty tough nut to crack, but when he falls, he falls hard. Allie's pleasure in cooking for the cowboys and working in the kitchen endears her to all the men working on the ranch, and soon they can't imagine life without her. The fact that her stay is just temporary creates a strong tension, while the suspense from the danger she's in keeps the story quickly moving forward. Looking forward to reading more in the series!

Once Upon a Cowboy, written by Lacy Williams, is a wonderful princess story with a cowboy twist!
My favorite character is Alessandra, of course! She's the princess so who wouldn't love the princess, but this story had a different twist where this princess wasn't the rich, snooty, kiss my finger kind of princess. Allie was tenderhearted, caring, hard working. She was stuck in a life or death situation and was capable of finding a way to figure out how to stay alive! She wasn't a ditz!
I also had to totally love Gideon too! He was a bear of a guy. Didn't see past his having to keep the ranch going for his sister and her little one...so he couldn't see much good in life...just surviving...especially after having been a Navy SEAL!
Love how Williams made this a modern day story with old time flair that kept me wanting to turn those pages to see what was going to be happening. Can't wait to see what happens in the next book of the series.

This was a sweet, clean western unexpected, improbable fairy tale that involved one handsome, if not broken, cowboy by the name of Gideon and a frightened but strong willed princess, Alessandra. When she runs after an attempt on her life, the princess Alessandra of Glorvaird did not expect to end up on a ranch in north Texas. The story simply takes off from there. It filled with danger and mystery, and still sweet and romantic. They're people from two different worlds, trying to figure out what to do with feelings they shouldn't be having for each other. But she's a beautiful princess whose beauty is not just skin deep. Her heart is as lovely as her exterior. Then we have a cowboy, retired Navy SEAL, who is a grumpy bear of a man and only wishes he could have done something more with his life than run the ranch. Put the two of them together, and you have something that begins as a flicker and ends in a fire.

This is the first book I've read by Lacy Williams, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. You can see her loving, faithful heart throughout, making it a simply magical read. The Epilogue gives us a preview of possible things to come, characters who may also be looking for love or maybe even just looking to be found. I loved it and look forward to reading more of her works.

Princess Alessandra, second in line to the throne of Glorvaird, finds herself in New York at a swanky affair to help her country build alliances. Before she can get into her limo to leave, her bodyguard saves her from a bullet, which brings her to Texas. To Gideon. Gideon is a former SEAL. He now owns and runs the family ranch. Before Gideon realizes it, he seems to be saddled with a princess. He knows she needs help, and he decides to accommodate her. Someone wants to do harm to Alessandra and possibly her family. Gideon will do all he can to protect her, but will he be able to protect his own heart? This is the first book in the Cowboy Fairytales series a I can't wait for book 2 ! I loved the ranch hands and Gideon's brother Matt and sister Carrie. I hope they get their own books. This book had a very likable princess and an unlikely hero. THIS WAS A SWEET LOVE STORY ! GREAT READ !

Once Upon A Cowboy by Susan May Warren

I enjoyed reading this story. I give this one three & a half stars. I love fairy tales, and I liked this author's take on the princess and the commoner. I like the way she developed the characters and showed the princess in a different light than most of the billionaire romances that are on the market. I hate spoilers, but I will tell you this, I would have liked a little more about Gideon's meeting with the King in the Epilogue. There is romance, danger, family bonding, healing scars, and renewed faith. There was also a twist I didn't see coming. There was a little problem with editing, however, it did not detract from the book. I would recommend this book, and am looking forward to the next one in the series. I received an ARC from the author in exchange for my honest review.

"Once Upon a Cowboy" is a contemporary western retelling of the Snow White fairytale. Princess Allessandra, second in line for the throne of Glorvaird, is outside a ritzy hotel in New York City (where the Crown Princess tasked her with forging alliances with two powerful dignitaries) when shots rang out. She is now on the run for her life. Nothing better than running into a former Navy Seal when you need protection! I got a lot of laughs and comfort from this book. The author did a fantastic job. However, it seems that where the relationship between the two is resolved in this book, the person or persons after the palace family will wait for one of the next books in the series. I can't WAIT to read them!

I really loved this sweet, charming, romantic fairytale! Alessandra hides out in the bed of Gideon's truck. She is trying to escape a traumatic event. Gideon discovers her and his Navy SEAL senses tell him that something that doesn't feel quite right. He takes Alessandra back to his ranch, intent on protecting her while he fights his growing feelings for her.

If you love sweet, clean romances, don't miss this one! It is a wonderfully enjoyable read. Only downside is that the book needed some proofreading/line editing but it doesn't detract from the storyline.

Alessandra is running to save her life when she mets Gideon, a former soldier . She is a princess in danger due to some threats in her country while she is visiting New York. She hides in Gideon's car and when he finds out he can't help but to protect her by hiding her in his ranch. There is an instinct connection between them but their worlds are so different that it seems impossible for them to be together. But love always wins. A beautiful love story.

Lacy Williams' book, Once Upon a Cowboy, was an entertaining re-telling of the fairy tale Snow White. I thought the characters were very likable and the writing was good, but I felt with more detail and some extra polish it could have been a 5 star read as well. Because of that I give this story 4 stars. I would definitely recommend this book to fans of contemporary and western romance, especially at this must-buy economical price. A very modern "Snow White". A Princess on the run for her life, an ex-Navy Seal adjusting to life on a ranch, and how the two of them fulfill something the other is missing in their life, makes for a clean cowboy romance story, with an element of danger. It has a nice story line and charming lovable characters. I will definitely be following this series and reading each new installment. A former Navy SEAL turned Texas cowboy and a princess on the run from assassins was just too good to resist. I enjoyed it thoroughly and recommend it as a engaging, clean romance with strong characters, a entertaining plot that never bored and a dose of danger and suspense. I'm a tough critic and easily bored, but this book held my attention and had me wondering what would happen next. And there are more of these cowboy fairy tales to come! I can't wait for the next one!

A nice and easy fairy tale romance between a rancher, who happens to be an ex Seal, and a princess. She is on the run after her bodyguard is killed. She hides in his truck and the adventure and romance begins.

Wonderful story. A modern fairytale with all the elements that make them fun to read. A beautiful princess, a gruff cowboy that needs some taming (and she might be the one who can do it, some intrigue, and swoon-worthy romance. A fun, quick read, plus an intro to the next in the series - that I've already purchased and can't wait to read. I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I always love a fairy tale and a contemporary one is even better.
A princess runs from danger and a handsome ex Navy Seal protects her.
The characters were well developed and I was in love with the western theme.
A nice romance with a happy ending.

I really loved the retelling of snow white, in the form of Alessandra, and the Prince charming was perfectly played by Gideon, what else would you expect from an ex navy seal but a consummate hero. The story is intriguing and keeps you guessing to the end. The two complaints I might have is the love story was over so soon and who on earth did the cigarette bud belong to?

Great modern cowboy retelling of the Snow White story. There were enough Snow White references to make the connection but didn't make the story to predictable. Can be read as a standalone but you will want to continue on to the next in the series.
