I really like this book because the main characters in it are not all nicey-nice. They are the children of fairy tale's worst villans, and for the most part, mean and evil. Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos, don't even know what "love" feels like, and they've been living on an island surrounded by a magical barrier for most of their lives. That is, until a the 16 year-old son of Belle and Beast invites them to attend his school, a school for mostly the children of the royals in fairy-tales to attend. Mal's mother makes them all go, so they can steal the Fairy Godmother's magic wand for her. At first Mal is determined to do just that, but after some time at the schooll she realizes , just because their parents were evil did not mean that they had to be evil too. So after a fight with her mom, Mal and her friends decide that they are happy being good. It's a really good book, so read it if you haven't!

Truly terrible. No matter how low you set the bar, this book will limbo under it. Even for a movie novelization, it's pretty bad. Even for middle-schooler-written fan fiction, it's pretty bad. No character development, just a blow-by-blow retelling of each detail of each scene in the movie (I must assume - I haven't seen it and now have no desire to do so). The quote that comes to mind is, "What you've just [written] is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever [read]. At no point in your rambling, incoherent [movie novelization] were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having [read] it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

Uh... HECK KNOWS I AM IN LOVE!! I love Descendants! Mals struggle between good an evil is so intoxicating, and it blankets the stoy with an unanswered question. Will true love win? Or will the life she's known take over, and do this just for a LITTLE appreciation from her mother? Mal is a sassy teenge villain, with thick purple locks, emerald green eyes, and an unsure heart. Evie Queen, daughter of the Evil Queen, is rockin her fab silky blue locks, eyes of beauty, and a mind capable of anything if she put her mind to it. Jay, son of Jafar, is tossin his long, chestnut hair, stealing everything except his fathers love, and realizing being alone is no good, and a team is not alone. Carlos de Vil is the cunning son of Cruella de Vil, with his black, white and red look, but an incredibly soft heart.
Together... Long Live Evil.

It seemed too rushed. The story was very well written, but everything seemed too cramped together. If the book had more to, with more time for them to plan and more time for them to grow, it would have been so much better. They needed more time to figure out who they were as individuals, without their parents. I liked the book, but it just needs more time to grow and learn how to feel.

Seen this at my daughters book fair & bought it. We've never seen the movie, so this is a great intro. I'll most def buy the movie because my daughter just loved the story. Some of the 1 star reviews complain about the book not being more indepth or ppl buying it & it being for the wrong age group. Age group for this book should be around 9 and up. Some ppl need to really look into books before buying & complaining about it being too advanced for their child. And those complaining about they need more depth & too much like the movie. Here's a thought, it's getting kids to read. No harm there, right?? Smh...

My niece waited excitedly for this to arrive! After it arrived she picked it up and started to read it, she read the first five pages and she said that it was boring. she wasn't even interested in the pictures which looked like someone mass produced them for a bootleg version of a Disney book. Not the quality one expects from Disney....

I got this for my niece to practice her vocabulary - and indeed it is a good book for that! There are some pretty difficult words and concepts that the readers must be prepared for. This makes for great mother-daughter reading as there will be numerous vocabulary questions - but I like that interaction and conversation.

Ok this book is awesome because number1 it's full of magic and magic always brightens a book
Number2 this book is about my favorite series desedents and that can always make a book more interesting
Number3 it's longer and a higher level because books are more mysterious and they are longer and higher level. Those are the reasons
This book is awesome ! Hope u like my review!!

this is great book. my daughter did read this book in 4 days (she is 7). and then handled over to her friend and then to another friend. kids love reading it. they did all see the movie at first. its not too long of a book. its interesting and with few pictures. and I would say- one of my daugther's friends doesn't like reading but she did read this book! they are all 7-8 year old girls. Descendants is a great story. kids even created Halloween dance with these characters and parents will be all dressed up as their mothers.....great story line

My daughter immediately fell in love with this story after seeing the movie and had to have the book. She has reread this book countless times. I like that it shows kids choosing their own path and good overcoming evil. It was definitely worthy the money.

Totally awesome!! I love that they included pictures from the movie in the back. But it was a little weird reading the songs when I knew what it was supposed to say. My advice is read it before you see it! :-)

What happens when the heroes and villains of our fairy tales have children of their own? Disney is ready to tell us. Here is the story of children of villains vs children of heroes, and the one that thinks they all deserve a second chance. When the daughters of Malificent and the Evil Queen and the sons of Jafar and Cruella Deville are invited by the son of Beauty and the Beast to attend his school, their parents think it's a great opportunity. In character, they aren't looking for their children to get an education but rather to break them out of the prison they've lived in for years. So are the children as evil as the parents?
I've been intrigued by the idea of the next generation in fairy tale land. I haven't seen the Disney Channel movie yet, but understood this was the book equivalent. Somehow I suspect this story translated better on screen. It has great elements, but the writing of this book is at a lower level than I would have expected. Language reads like a elementary age story though content and length are more like middle/high school. Conversation is a bit stilted, and I really hate how lazy all the names feel. Belle and Beast have a son named Ben. Malificent has a daughter named Mal. Cinderella and Prince Charming have a son named Chad. Jafar = Jay, Aurora = Audrey, etc. I feel like we all could have followed along just fine if the kids had more original names.

Dislike, like. Recommend to...? I chose this rating because this novel is (almost) exactly like the book! It has the details...the characters....the doings...... LOL it is humorous just. Like. The movie! I really liked how it has so many details, but the stuff that way when there is singing and the songs could probably go... But, it was a great book otherwise. I would recommend this book to E {Everyone}. Happy page turns!!
