De Rosnay's writing did justice to the unusual premise of this story. I enjoyed every aspect and, while it didn't engage me fully as emotionally as Sarah's Key, I could not detract anything for that. Sarah's Key was, for me, an exceptional, never-to-be-forgotten book that ensured that I would read everything that Ms. de Rosnay might ever write. In The House I Loved, she again engaged me completely.

The first third of the book was tedious. The last third was excellent. The author did a great job of developing friendships for this woman who was widowed. Good insight into the history of that time.

This book was ordered over a month ago and charged to my Master Card. It has not been delivered and my numerous e-mails to Hazelnut (the supplier) have been ignored. Why are you asking for a review of a product that has never been delivered? R. J. Desmond

After reading Sarah's Key, this new book was disappointing. The concept of writing to a dead husband was lame, but a way to deliver historical data of the era written about. The ending seemed as if the writer had a deadline to meet, literally - not in the story. I expected a better story line. On a positive note, the characters were believable. The main character, however, seemed to be a weak person.

This book had an interesting slant to it. It made me think of how families loved and lived in one house. The house and the owners blended in personality. Whereas nowadays most people can move on so easily. Attachment is not as common. Simply a roof over ones head. Very pleasant reading.

The writing was beautiful. I enjoyed the structure of the story, how it was written as a letter to her husband. I predicted the story early on, so the suspense sort of bored me. Enjoyed the descriptions of both Paris and the Parisians.

The book arrived in a timely manner - sooner than I expected - and was in like-new condition just as stated. Very happy with my purchase and service. This was not my first purchase of books and I have been very happy with all of my orders. Just ordered another 4 books and I expect I will be happy with those purchases, too.

The author again created a passionate view of the importance of home and family. The debacle between commercialism and the culture of family was most compelling. Madame Rose, the main character, sacrificed her life for values she held so dear.

A story of strength and passionate rebellion against a challenge that could only end in tragedy. The story of the destruction of old Paris gave a great insight into the close communities that existed before the architects of grandeur took over.

While it spotlighted Haussman's remake of Paris, I found it a tiresome grim book. I think the author could have done more research on the Paris of the time and included it to make the book more interesting.

Beautifully written: characters and story line. Depicts with magnificent detail a way of life lost to "progress". Not for the faint of heart. I was consumed with sadness at book's end, always hoping for another outcome.

This was a most interesting story told through letters to a deceased husband. This story covers the rebuilding of parts of Paris in the early to mid 1800's. The novel was filled with historical facts. I found the characters to be very interesting and the novel was well written. I enjoyed Rose' s descriptive letters to her husband Armand. This is the third book of Tatiana De Rosnay that I've read and in my opinion she is a very talented writer.
