Have ben reviewing materials related to the use of coconut oil to help with dementia. This book was very helpful and down to earth.so is easy to understand. I have my husband on coconut oil, milk and products and have seen some improvements in his memory, thinking, walking, and sense of humor. Who can argue with coconut oil ----- what can it hurt!

Unfortunately health authorities can no longer be trusted. Anyone who really wants to heal someone has to do research on their own. There is a substance not mentioned in the book that is also very useful for Alzheimer or dementia. This substance is pqq (pyrroloquinoline quinone).

Organized by source rather than integrated into reviews by remedy.
As a non-medical person, i was left wondering about the strength of the
research, and whether studies cited were peer-reviewed...

Not very practical - dozens of "promising" recommendations are given (usually without references to peer-reviewed studies), but to try any one of those would take several months and cost a nontrivial amount of money. So trying all of them would literally take years, without any guarantee than any one would actually work.

Book contains a number of references to news articles or personal stories or individual doctor recommendations but unfortunately very few peer-reviewed scientific studies are referenced even though the book promises to be technical and rigorous.

Alzheimers and Dementia are becoming epidemic and the sad part is that most persons will never get to learn about these simple measures to avoid becoming a victim to this disease, as it is labelled. Trying these safe simple measures should be passed on to as many persons as possible to get the word out there. I work in an Aged Care facility and see the effect that this disease has on people and their families and the ongoing care it involves so I am a true campaigner for preventative measures to be practised and this book is one of the best I have read to date.

My wife has that disease and now lives in Arbor Springs in West Des Moines.
I donated your books to Arbor Springs management, hoping to give them
good ideas. They take care of about 50 Alzheimer Patients and they find
"Awakening from Alzheimer's " interesting.

This review pertains to the 2016 edition. (the store does not it show as of 07 Oct 2016). Until it is available on the store visit [...] to get it and associated interview videos.

I read this book because my wife’s mother passed away from this horrible disease and the condition seems to run in families. I want to be prepared to take effective action.

The new edition appears to be a very considerable upgrade from the 2012 edition. It has 24 chapters plus an introduction and foreword. Each of these 22 chapters describes a protocol for treating Alzheimer’s and dementia based on interviews with doctors who use that protocol.

A number of these protocols actually reverse many of the memory problems caused by these conditions. While not always returning the mind to its original sharpness it often allows the patient to return to independent living. Sarin cites cases of Alzheimer’s patients who could recognize no one and could not feed themselves, but were able to return to recognizing their friends and relatives and to cooking their own meals.

It is apparent that Alzheimer’s is sufficiently complex that no one treatment is going to fit all cases. It is very important to continue treatment for enough months to give a treatment a real chance. You must use significant doses of the best bio-available supplements to assure a good trial. Try multiple protocols and never give up!

The prescription drugs usually adopted for this condition have a track record of only slowing the progression of the disease at the expense of dangerous side effects. Thus this book mentions these drugs, but also mentions supplements that are often more effective and less dangerous. Naturopathic physicians who specialize it mental problems are most likely to be familiar with these supplements and can review the patient’s history and condition to achieve the best treatment. The author provides names, websites, and books.

Ms. Sarlin has produced a wonderful new edition that updates the known treatments and provides additional information on why some treatments work, as well as additional sources for you to investigate. If you are an Alzheimer’s patient or a caregiver – never give up. There a wealth of possible treatments and more are becoming available every year

A Bit dissapointed as I do know you cannot reverse Alzheimer's. I did a lot of other reading matter on this subject because I had an uncle who was also diagnosed with Alzheimer'. I also had an aunt who has been lying there like a vegetable for 9 years with alzheimer's. ALzheimer's I believe is something you cannot diagnose when a person is still alive. I remember as a child we called these old people "senile". I stayed by my uncle's side for 9 months this year and wanted to explode everytime someone said he had alzheimer's. If you are losing your memory it can be from a sudden shock or old age and he was diabetic. His lost a lot of memories after having long aneasthetics. The long term memory stayed from when he was a child and still young but every day to day things he forgot. According to my findings, alzheimer's can only be diagnosed after death and they an autopsy of the brain. They cannot diagnose while still alive. So think about it next time you talk of Alzheimer's. Every second old person has alzheimer's but it is in actual fact senile. Like my mom use to say they become children again and that is a fact!! I tried everything to try and reverse it but to no avail. being senile like my aunt who survived for 9 years, she could eat, but that was about it. Both passed this year in a matter of 2 months. If I can give someone advice, talk about the good old days and when they were young and they will remember it. Sometimes they just forget everything and I pray that we do not have a family member who has to to through this ordeal again. Sorry it such a sad story, but I do not believe in reversal of "alzheimer's/ senile/dimentia.

This book lays out scientific work dealing with dementia and Alzheimer's outside of the Pharmaceutical industry that can be applied immediately to dementia patients. The author discusses science, gives stories of people using each product and how they have reacted and come out of dementia. The biggest thing I took away from this book is that dementia or Alzheimer's can be reversed and prevented. Not surprisingly, medical doctors and not supportive of the things discussed in this book; however, there are medical doctors that are not using Pharmaceutical products to treat dementia.

THE REVIEW BY DAVE ON "AWAKENING FROM ALZHEIMER'S" INCLUDED HIS THOUGHTS ON THE SUPPLEMENT "PREVAGEN".DAVE HAD READ REVIEWS ON PREVAGEN WHICH CAUSED HIM TO DOUBT THE CLAIMED BENEFITS OF PREVAGEN.DAVE SAID THE REVIEWS ON PREVAGEN WERE WRITTEN BY TRAINED SCIENTISTS.THESE "TRAINED SCIENTISTS" CLAIMED PREVAGEN COULD NOT WORK BECAUSE OF MOLECULAR SIZE OF THE PRODUCT ACTIVE INGREDIENT.NO MENTION OF SCIENTIFIC TRIALS BEING DONE BY THE CRITICAL"TRAINED" SCIENTISTS.

COULD THESE "TRAINED SCIENTISTS BE OF THE SAME BACKGROUND AS ALL THE MEDICAL PEOPLE WHO CLAIM THERE IS NO WAY TO TREAT ALZHEIMERS EXCEPT BY USING ALL THE PHARMACEUTICAL DRUGS NOW IN USE...WITH LITTLE SUCCESS.MAYBE THESE "TRAINED" SCIENTISTS ARE ALSO ON THE BIG PHARMA BANDWAGON.

Book does not clearly convey fact that MCT cannot pass through blood-brain barrier, seemingly
undermining their whole argument that coconut oil with its MCT component can help get
energy to oxygen-starved neuerons in the brain's of Alzheimer and dimentia patients. In other
oords, a book conveying immense false hope.

While the views and claims in this book are definitely insightful I have to apologize for bursting anybodies bubble. Alzheimer's Disease is not reversible. And we have yet to discover a cure. I have been studying this disease for a few years now and I am an Alzheimer's & Dementia specialist/instructor and a long time member with the Alzheimer's Association. I have also worked in the healthcare field for a number of years with direct contact with the Alzheimer's population.
While this is a blessing you must recognize that the brain tissue does not repair itself and this disease is not reversible.
What you can do to help reduce this disease is stay socially, mentally, and physically active, eat right and keep your body in check.
