Some writers you just can't get enough. Clancy is definitely one of those. If not as thrilling as the Hunt for the red October, in this book he takes a deep dive into the politics of the Cold War. Jack Ryan is probably his best character and this is one of his best books. I only regret the fact that the store doesn't provide a list of the reading order in writing or chronological order. It would make the reading all more Pleasant.

Enjoyable - took me a little while to come to understand the structure of the Politburo but otherwise very cool to put yourself back in the height of the Cold War. Enough technical stuff and spycraft to enthrall any Tom Clancy reader.

With 4 or 5 different elements of the story, Clancy kept each element intense, interesting and kept me on the edge of each page. While I've never been much on the technical details that he offers, his knowledge is impressive and it sets the basis for some of the action. He doesn't get bogged down in detail in Cardinal, however, and it makes for a fluid and exciting read.
