I discovered Walk Longmire through the TV series. Watched the first season then started buying the books from which the series is based. Every book is tightly written featuring great characters, intriguing plots, all laced with humor, honesty, and spot-on descriptions of the landscape in which the characters play. I will collect all of Craig's works.

Walt longmire is so addictive! I feel so privileged to read these glorious descriptive mysteries. I can see the buttes, hear the wind and smell the newly cut hay all the while my heart is pounding as I wonder what has Walt gotten himself into now! I revel in these books...as the story races along..and I grieve when they are done. Thank you Craig Johnson!

If you have ever watched the Longmire series on TV - reading the books are even better. The book is very fast paced and keeps one on the edge of their seat. This book is about Walt, a rancher and a beautiful horse. I would recommed reading this book.

I LOVE this story! Craig Johnson has done it again with a great story line, fleshed-out characters, and an action-packed read. His balance of suspense with humor is excellent--- one of the reasons I love his writings! Craig, keep 'em coming!

Enjoyed this book, even though were some things written that a horseman or cowboy wouldn't be guilty of saying or doing.
Craig. It would benefit you to hang with some cow hands for a while.
Hope you take this as good-natured ribbing.
I really enjoy reading Longmire because of the humor mixed with the mystery.

enjoyed the book immensely. The flow of the story and the number of characters keep you in suspense right up to the end. I like the fact that it is easy reading and you do not get caught up in trying to analyze each chapter to determine what happened. Recommend as a buy if you are a Longmire fan.

Craig Johnson writes good books. I like his characters that appear in book after book. I am sure I will enjoy all his books. It does bug me that our hero is in his early fifties, has suffered every imaginable injury ans cavorts like a 25 year old super hero. He is thoughtful like an older man.

Craig Johnson has peopled Absaroka county with eminently believable and wonderful characters I am so very grateful to have discovered this series...and I am also so glad that Wahoo Sue was rescued. I love you, Walt! (and you too, Henry, Vic, Ruby and the rest.)

I started reading these books after watching the A&E Longmire series. I love, love the books. The Dark Horse is one of my favorites and kept me quessing on "whodunit" until almost the end of the book. It does involve some cruelty to horses, but the "dark horse" really comes through as the story's hero.

Started reading this series after falling in love with the TV show. My husband and I are both on the last one and hope there will be more. Stories are well written and 'crime' is interesting to solve; but the best thing is the characters. You feel like you really know and like these people and will miss them when they are gone.

The Craig Johnson Longmire mysteries are great books and somewhat different from the TV Longmire episodes, if you're a watcher and are familiar with them. I suppose it would have been difficult to actually film the episodes as the books are written but the books stand very well on their own ; some of the TV episodes are very different from the corresponding books. If you like the TV series, you'll enjoy the books too. Buy them ASAP and enjoy the ride !

I picked up a book, and was immediately back where I grew up at: Wyoming. Mr. Johnson has it down. Lakes, Rivers, Counties, Highway Patrol, Cheyenne, Rawlins, abutting states, where everything is relative to each other in the state... And, it's a great Mystery / Detective Book at that.

I love this series and this was my favorite entry so far. Longmire goes "undercover" in another Wyoming county and you are given insight into his past. Fans of the series are wondering what the Sheriff is waiting for in his long delayed relationship with Vic Moretti, his deputy. The relationship gets a brief glance here and promises more to come.

Another in the series staring Sheriff Longmire in Wyoming (also a TV series now). I discovered this author while on a fly-fishing vacation in Montana, and I've read all his books and watched the series on TV (I don't watch much TV, so that's a compliment)!

The characters are enjoyable and have been developed through the preceding books. Reading these books out of sequence is not as enjoyable. I got out of sequence on this book and wondered where some of the things came from.

Some of the technical details are off. No matter how good a horse is, a starved, dehydrated horse could not carry a 250 lb rider with an additional 50 pounds of clothes and weapons at top speed for several miles as this one supposedly did.

After a few of these books I got a comfortable feeling with the characters and events.

Authentic down to the smallest detail, and filled with well- rounded characters and plot twists, but for me it is Johnson's power of description that commands these Longmire books. Thanks, Craig, for inviting me to stroll back through my ranch-y, horse-filled childhood.

I love these books. The characters are so well defined and the humor is great. Also, the descriptions of the Bighorn Mountain area are so vivid. I hope he writes more full books, rather than short stories.

Started watching the TV series of Walt Longmire - bought the books. They are mutually compatible, and one doesn't spoil the other if you do both. Great dialogue and characters. Good stories. Makes the characters really come to life. Entertaining reads.

I eventually get bored with most series books, however, I'm still reading Craig Johnson's Longmire series. I love the setting, the characters, the humor and the intelligence of the storytelling.

Thank you, Mr. Johnson!

I've been reading the Walt Longmire series since I discovered the tv show. Love the characters and the setting. Very entertaining. I am in my 60's and the stories are appropriate for middle to older adults, I would say.

This book carries on the saga of sheriff Walt longmire. This book gives you a taste of an old west sheriff mixed with modern day criminal investigation. It even had Indians and horses. It's written with humor, some history and a lot of heart. Once l read the first book I could not put it down until I read all of the current books. Now I am on preorder for the next one. Can't wait!

There isn't an author out there better than Craig Johnson, and The Dark Horse is another great book. The whole series is excellent. If you listen to the audio book version narrated by George Guidall it is a special treat as he does an outstanding job.

I'm reading the Longmire series in order. "The Dark Horse" really held my attention with some unpredictable characters and carefully crafted turns of events. Bittersweet story, but, like usual, needs more Henry Standing Bear!
