This is one of my top ten writers, because this series of books are great. It took me a while to get through all of the books. The reason for that is because they were so intense. I had to read other books in between, and then I would start reading this one again. The characters were exciting and very interesting. The story line was extremely entertaining and enjoyable.

Well written and interesting. Comparing Alistar Stone to Harry Dresden is unfair... This series and as not as action packed, and there are not as many things happening at the same time as with the Dresden files. But still, it's a good solid read with engaging characters.

What can I say? Not a fan. The characters are underdeveloped, the four books have the same format and story, trite dialogue, etc. Not Dresden comparison worthy at all. Not compelling, not endearing, not well crafted. Skip it or if you really want to read it, wait to see if it is ever on kindle-unlimited.
Bill The Vampire (The Tome of Bill Book 1) :: PORTAL (Portal Chronicles Book 1) :: Alaska State Map (Rand McNally Easy to Read!) - Easy To Read :: The MILEPOST 2018: Alaska Travel Planner :: Serpentine (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter)

I didn't get the box set but I have read these books. I put this up there with Dresden, Iron Druid and the like. Great story. Deep characters and I give the magic system an A+. Plus there is a bunch of them out so no waiting a year.

Got through 3 of the books and enjoyed them well enough, but put it down before starting the 4th and just never picked it back up. I recommend reading one and taking a break before going to the next one or you may wind up bored with the series like I did.

I am a big fan of Harry Dresden so I was happy to hear from friends that there was another mage that they thought I would like. I picked up the first set and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed reading them. I believe that I will keep coming back for more.

I frankly struggled through the first two books. The series takes longer than it should to get to characters you have the remotest interest in. There's a lot of initial flimsiness that gets better as you progress through the series, or I've developed Stockholm syndrome, not ruling that out. The author seems to enjoy gratuitous graphic violence for the sake of showing how evil the enemy is, but you can tell they have an actual story and they're trying their best to tell it. It's gotten better enough that I will continue giving the series a try to see where it keeps going, there has been some definite character growth and expanding of dimension, so I hop the trend will continue.

Took a chance on this series and read through the set in a weekend. Loved it, just different enough from some of the more established series and very well written. No struggling to read through as some of the suggestions on Facebook or evil sites.

Sorry this may have developed into something better, but after the protaganist kept getting his butt kicked, I just could not continue reading. I like heroes not punching bags. As a KU reader of a book a day, there are just too many good reads to waste my time with this.

I am not usually a fan of urban fantasy, but the synopsis of this series intrigued me. I was captivated from the start. The main characters are quirky, but likable and real. The story moved a little slowly at first with too many descriptions detailing the step by step acts of magic. However, I was hooked by the storyline, and when I finished the first book, I immediately read the others one after another.

I really wish I could say I enjoyed these books, but I'm afraid that just wouldn't be honest. Perhaps I'm just expecting too much when other reviews wanted to compare this to the Dresden Files series.
The characters are a bit flimsy, the magical system seems to flex from one book to the next, and sometimes from one chapter to the next. The main characters are supposed to be professional and experienced, yet always seem caught by surprise and ignore seemingly basic clues. In fights, they seem bent on not killing even for self defense and seem shocked (for experienced people) when it happens
Honestly, while the books were a good time waster, they were not memoriable in any fashion and the characters are just poorly written and two dimentional

OMG!!! If you love magic and love a story that builds on intensity, then you will love the Stone Chronicles. From the first introduction of each character, the author builds each character until you feel like you know them as well as your best friend. Follow them through all the twists and turns and trials and tribulations, hanging on each word as you go.... What a ride! Better than any roller coaster ride you've ever been on. I can't wait to see what happens next. I don't want to spoil any of the fun.... These should be made into a series for TV but they could never do it justice. Enjoy.

Fun read but a somewhat unimaginative. Constant swearing and f-bombs do nothing but show a limited vocabulary on the author's part. It was kinda fun to read something that was written pre-internet and smart phone though. I'd forgotten about Thomas Guides and phone books! :)
It was good enough to keep me coming back while I wait for the next Dresden Files book to be completed but it was nowhere near Jim Butcher's caliber.

I am liking the series, enough drama and action to satisfy me with more character and plot development than is common (based on my experience) to the genre. Attains objectives within the story while leaving the reader with questions to ponder while waiting for the next installment. Enjoyable.

Just finished off this set. Thoroughly enjoyable - I really like how King ties in so many different mythologies.
Alistair Stone, as leader of this team of unlikely heroes, is a magical bad-a** with an arsenal of powers. Worth the read!

This was a great reading experience.
Likeable heroes, realistically despicable villains, and heart pounding action.

Only one problem, you need to put your life on hold until you finish reading the series!

I thoroughly enjoyed the series! I had never read a book on a mage, minus the Harry Potter books, and it was very interesting. The characters were very likable and relatable. I found that I had a hard time putting the book down because I had to see what would happen next. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

This was a little "out there" for me. It's not a genre I usually read, but I really enjoyed them. The story was fun, but suspenseful. The characters are great. I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. I would highly recommend this series! It's a fun read that's hard to put down!

I am a Huge mystery fan, not one for urban fantasy or magical stuff. But having said that, I loved each of the Stone books and can't wait until the next one gets here. His characters are well developed and quite interesting. The plots are well developed and believable
. U will not be disappointed with The Stone Chronicles
