I have read many of the CJ Box books highlighting Joe Pickett. This book was written earlier in his career and is completely different although still based in the West. I find his writing very fluent and it is easy to find yourself captured by the characters.
This book kept me interested and concerned about the characters future happiness. I recommend this to anyone both male and female.

I noticed this book was one recommended by the book club at my local library. I liked that it was set in Denver and that he had gone to DU. Given that we have three adopted grandchildren, I thought the subject would be an interesting one.

I usually read reviews, but, stupidly, never read those of this book beforehand, and went ahead and suggested it for my book club for 2014-15. Even read the first third of the book beforehand, still not realizing that it was going to turn into a mystery - because I didn't know who C.J. Box was.

I enjoyed his witty dialogue and his style, and as you reviewers would say, "his sense of place". It was fun to recognize streets, buildings, weather descriptions, etc.from my area. The disappointment for me was that it wasn't about adoption, and that the characters were fantastical.

Since so many of you said it was underwhelming and not typical of C.J. Box, I look forward to reading those that are.

I read the first few chapters in increments - I have a busy schedule.. but after their plot to bring down the judge and his son Garrett.. well - I stayed up until what is now 5 am to finish it. It did lag maybe a couple pages here and there.. but I couldn't put it down.. I thought about it.. but.. kept going until I finished it. I want to give it 4.5.. not a 4 .. not quite a solid 5.. but.. I'll say it was really good! Really good.

I find it hard to believe that some were disappointed in this story. It would be interesting to see what they recommend.
C.J. Box has given us a standalone that stands above. I've been a Box fan since his first and have watched his writing grow with each book. With this one, he rose above the crowd. Since it has a January copyright, I expect awards for him -- and each will be well-deserved.

C. J. Box continues to create such indelible characters. I started reading his Joe Pickett series and have been captivated by his writing. The characters draw you in but his descriptions of the scenery and places for which the stories take place are uncanny. You get a sense for everything going on in the story. The sights, sounds, and even the taste.
Three Weeks to Say Goodbye is no exception. A page turner. I'm half-way through the book in two days. It's a gut wrenching story. I can't wait to finish it.
