Another great novella in the Kate Daniels series. Derek is always a favorite character and I loved the chance to see into his head. I also love seeing Julie starting to come into her own and become more and more interesting as she grows up and develops her own magic. Highly recommended.

Good in between story. Should be read before Magic Binds. Is part of the Kate Daniels world. In this story we learn more about Derek and Julie. Really like those two. Good story. Would love more books about them.

Julie is growing up into her own character. I miss Kate at first but Julie isn't so bad. No, I like Julie. She has Kate's influence but I don't feel like I'm reading the Kate-character with just another name in place. If the authors keep writing, this is going to be a good character to follow.

Ilona Andrews is my favorite writer. I follow their blog, I wait with bated breath for their new releases, I read their free Innkeeper series. Luckily I don't live in the same state as she and her husband so they don't need to take out a restraining order. This story helps along our understanding of Ilona Andrews wonderful characters and creative worldbuilding. I am immensely impressed with her skill and style. Take my advice when I say, I have not been disappointed with a thing of theirs I've read.

Cannot believe what I am reading. Julie and Derek's adventure is awesome. t times makes you wonder as close as they are if they act like brother/sister love or crushes they are hiding from one another. Action again, which I like and can say this story line I am looking forward to.

Short but sweet. Puts Derek in the spotlight, sets up possibilities for a future relationship that could get really interesting. Julie is more than she seems--and what does Roland have in mind? A must read.

As always Ilona Andrews delivers an excellent adventure filled book. Love that it features the younger characters of Julie and Derek. They both are coming into their powers and it's going to be amazing when they finally get together. 5☆'s

The book gives Derek and Julie more of a relationship than what is portrayed in the Kate Daniel series. The characters are great and the book gives you more insight into the mind of Derek and Julie. They are both on a mission

I've only started reading Ilona Andrews work pretty recently, but I'm getting into it more and more. They're pretty great with both the action, and the romantic content.
I even love the novellas with the side characters, especially this one. I think Julie and Derek work well together, and look forward to seeing more of them in the main series.

This is a great novella that focuses on the supporting characters of the Kate Daniels series. It shows the strong yet strained relationship between the young Julie and the bitter Derek. I can't wait to see how the authors will bring Julie and Derek together.

Wow, what a treat! I usually steer clear YA stuff, but coming from Ilona Andrews I was unable to pass this up. It's a wonderful short story (of 64 pages) set in the Kate Daniels universe.
Derek (Curran's Wolf) is on the trail of some thugs who have killed a whole human family (including the children), While trying to find what they are after he meets up with Julie (Kate's ward), who, in the absense of Kate, has accepted a job that sets her on the same trail as Derek. In order to retrieve the dangerous magical object they decide to work together.
I loved the glimpses we finally get of Derek's past as well as learning about the things Julie has been up to. The story is full of magic, monsters and mysteries. It is told from the POV of Derek (mostly) and Julie, but in 3rd person sing., therefore a bit of change from the usual UF 1st person narrative, but not unwelcome. What also made me like this book was the maturity of both Derek and Julie and they way that their abilities complement each other. Because of all the things they have already experienced they seem old beyond their years. There is also a hint of romance thrown in and I would love to see where it leads, The fact that the book is labeled "Grey Wolf 1" gives me hope that we haven't seen the last of these two. My only complaint is that with just 64 pages it was way too short and has left me wanting more, though that is not necessarily a bad thing.

Whether a novella or a full length book, Ilona Andrews smacks it out of the ballpark every time. I have loved Derek from the minute he set foot on the pages of the Kate Daniels series and can't wait to see what is to follow from this gifted duo!

I really enjoyed this adventure with just Derek and Julie. I like delving into the other characters and it's tough to compete for attention when Kate is in the room. I found the story engaging and the interactions between the young adventures enjoyable. I'd love another Julie and Derek book.

Wonderful novella. For such a short, short story so much is packed into to it that you don't want to miss it. Great info on 2 of my favorite characters, terrific action scenes and fascinating possible story lines for the Kate Daniels series. If you love the series then this is a must!

Great story, interesting plot and good character development. I like having shorter stories to read in between the longer novels, and I enjoy it when characters from other novels get incorporated into these novellas.

Ilona Andrews is in my top two authors! The stories are always so original and this one is the same. It's the beginning of new adventures with the younger characters from Kate Daniels. And they are just as interesting and fascinating, with dark and light mixed into their world. Will be interesting to see where they head as they navigate their powers!

I really like the Kate Daniels' series and this is a side story with Derek and Julie as the main characters. Lots of action just like all other stories. Maybe Derek is going to be having more of his own story in the future.

Derek and Julie together was unexpected and exciting. I thought it would be Julie and Escanio. The action was nonstop and awesome; it was even believable. I can't wait for the next adventure. Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!!!

This series is always exciting! I like the fact that Curran and Kate are still together without added interference from other people. That the core group is still solid with stories of their own that keep building on the main characters! I hope this series keeps going for a LONG TIME?

This is my favorite author. The stories are always fun and I never know what's going to happen even though I've read everything she (they) have ever written. The characters are well written and believable even though the premise itself is fantasy. I was heart broken when the On the Edge series ended all too soon, so to see some of those beloved characters return made this book all the more special. I hope to see more of the Inn Keeper series and it's growing cast of misfits.
