These books are awesome! I enjoyed every moment of these stories, the characters are hysterical, and there is still plenty of suspense and tense moments as you worry what will happen. I can't wait to sink my teeth into more of these stories

Of all the many "nerd gets stuck in fantasy world" books available on the Kindle store, this is the least enjoyable so far. There are way better options such as NPCs (Spells, Swords, & Stealth Book 1) or Off to Be the Wizard [Kindle in Motion] (Magic 2.0 Book 1) .

But if you want deeply unlikeable characters and an author who's fond of describing bodily fluids to the point of obsession, boy is this the story for you.

It's not all bad. It often made me laugh. I have plenty of highlighted passages, cheeky turns of phrases right out of Discworld or Hitchhiker's Guide. And sometimes, just sometimes, there are peeks at actual maturity in the writing style or the characters themselves.

But it's a very frustrating read. Maybe because of these occasional flashes of brilliance. Because for the most part, it's a meandering, directionless stroll led by one-dimensional, unlikeable characters who mostly reach for the low hanging humourous fruit. In fact my favourite two people in the book are just supporting cast. There's no story arc, no character development or depth.

I've read the four Caverns and Creatures books and most of the short stories through Kindle Unlimited. I purchased this set because I will definitely read the series again. Adult humor with many laugh out loud moments.

Kudos to the author. This series has me laughing from cover to cover. I could hardly put it down, and could not wait to find out more about the adventures and misadventures of the quartet of bubbling heroes. It is as if he took all the elements of Monty Pyhton's Holy Grail and mixed it with Dragonlance. And he probably had Mel Brooks as a ghost editor. This stuff is seriously funny yet it pays homage to the D&D nerd in me. Robert Bevan is hilarious in his topivs and characters, and how they react to their world and each other is brilliant.
I can not lie and I have to admit that at times the story stretches and lags a bit, or he takes a subject a bit too far for my liking. But this book is not written personally for me, and the whole is better than the sum of its parts. That I found myself frustrated with some of the characters decisions, showed how the author pulled me into their world and made me care about them and their outcomes. I look forward to more in this series and a lot more from this author.

then you might enjoy this story despite it's flaws. It's got a different take on the "get stuck in the game" plot that many others have done. But. There is a lot of homophobia and misogyny in this series. A LOT. I managed to finish the set to see what happens with the main plotline. There is a lot of stuff I laughed at, but sometimes I had to put it down because I was fuming. There are many clever solutions to problems that crop up, some that I didn't see coming. I'll read the fifth book eventually, but I won't be reading anything else by this author when I'm finished with the series.

These stories are so great you'll wish that reality collapses it's cushion fort on you; ending your tedious life. Nothing will ever compare to the sublime humor and inspiring meditation on the rich fantasy that masquerades as both our waking life and our dreams. It's ready to have Robin Williams in it as all of the principal characters in an animated extravaganza. You to will be besotted by the filthy humor and at times gut-checking cheek endured by our characters.

Really wanted to love these books. Picked the first 4 volumes up during a sale. I lived D&D back in rule set 2 and spent many the overnights in college drinking beer and running the Slaver's Stockade, or whatever the adventure of the night was. I'm also not an easily offended person and believe the world is far too PC these days.

These books could have been so much more had they been aimed at a bit more mature reader. And I probably wouldn't have cringed so much if the young boy raping pedophiles weren't made into primary characters that, at times, its seems were to feel sympathetic towards. If you enjoy reading half a dozen pages and encountering the F bomb a dozen times, a score of mixed curses, degradation towards homosexuals and women, the 'N word', a bit of threatened rape, an episode or two of vomiting on another character, someone masturbating, and 2 or 3 bouts of diarrhea or urination on another character, then having it all repeated, these are books for you.

For example (SPOILER). A young lady has turned vampire. She decides to bury herself for the day and does so near the bar where the main characters hang out. Soon after a character comes out and urinates on the spot, a second character comes out and vomits on the spot, and a third character (who always excuses himself in her presence so he can go masturbate) comes out and has diarrhea on the spot. This gag is repeated, in some form or another, ad infinitum though out the books.

The best character by far IS the young lady turned into a vampire. Aside from interacting with the others (as above), when she is alone her storyline is fun, interesting, filled with foul language and some quite (fun) disgusting descriptions, but it has a lot less pedophiles, vomit, and feces than the other storylines. Had the rest of the characters been written in this vain, these books would have been fantastic.

I wont be following this series anymore, but hope that in Mr. Bevan's next series of books he realizes that the shock of pedophiles, vomit, rape, and D&D (which I hate to see depicted in this style) aren't needed to sell books. He can do that with his writing, which, despite the subject matter, is quite engaging and fun.

It's an interesting concept. Magic dice cast our cast into the world of caverns and creatures, so named so the author doesn't get sued for ripping off "dungeons and dragons". Mordred, the crazed DM who sent our heroes to another world, is both the big bad evil guy and helpful, depending on how he was treated in the real world. There were some really great moments where the characters interacted, learned about how to use their abilities for real (so to speak), and then come back to the real world... As their characters.

But... The homophobic humor turned me off by book three. Which is a shame, because both Dungeons& Dragons and Pathfinder have explicitly embraced the LGBTQ community (Paizo is even co side ring moving its annual convention once it's cool tract with the convention center its held in expires because of homophobic laws.). Too bad this author missed the memo and decided to mock, deride, and insult every LGBTQ player and iconic character out there.

Some of the most entertaining reads (and listens) I've come across. These books will take you back to all the times you hung out with your idiot immature friends back in... um... last week. If you're a fan of Beavis & Butthead, Southpark, or Jackass--these books will be your unholy grail, assuming you read that is. Then again, I highly recommend the audiobooks. The audio versions bring these works of farts to life. That is the ones that are released... We're still waiting on books 3 and 4 as well as 3d6 to get on audible. Get a move on, Robert, it's been like 2 years on some of those.

Anywho, I really hope more books are released soon. I can't think of another series I'm more excited to read new content. There just aren't enough funny and entertaining books out there. The only negative thing I guess I should mention is the over abundance of swearing. Although, in many cases it only adds to the humor (and plot), even I think it gets somewhat gratuitous at times. Book four says the F word 302 times and the S word 214 times.

I would probably have a hard time reading this series as paper just won't do it justice. It's hard to wade through all the dick, fart, etc jokes when you are reading so I get the 1 star reviews. The audio version on the other hand is funny as hell. There were points I could not help cracking up at work. The reader does such an excellent job with his character voices and pacing. Go for the audio book if you go for anything in my opinion. This is a series 100% meant for audio.

I both love and dislike the books. The storyline is a old, but the author's weaving of the tale, surprising humor and very good imagination is used to make the story very very interesting. While I like unwholesome humor a lot, I never liked the humor based on bathroom activities and these books have way more than enough of that humor. Luckily the superior storyline, as well as the humor based on other subjects, makes the book an excellent read. I would recommend the series and I look forward to what I hope is the continuation and ending of the story.

Thinking even if the move silently roll was a 20, Cooper's wet fart would over ride the 20 and you would be screwed....lol. But seriously, if you ever played DnD you will really love this romp in the world of C&C...just don't be a useless bard... Can't wait to dive into more books by the author.

Don’t even start this if bad language, poop jokes, and penis humor offends you. But amongst all the shenanigans, a really good story gets told. Very fun and highly recommended for those who like their litrpg with a side of ‘your mother’ jokes!

This book was fun to read but embarrassing if anyone knows you read it. The story is deeper than the profanity and general childishness. A neat little book for D&D fans. Still better than Twilight

I've woken my wife laughing while reading in bed. I've gotten stares at the supermarket listening to the audio books, as I cackle through the milk isle. Robert Bevan writes a great story with many laughs (very blue jokes) but with enough heart to make you care about these poor bastards. If you have ever rolled a twenty sided die and still can chuckle at a dick joke, pick this up right now! Even if you haven't, buy it anyways its hilarious.

I've read Tolkien, Sanderson, and Jordan. I've played AD&D and countless RPGs. I've also cup checked my friends, ran from cops, and had many early mornings in Waffle House. This series culminated into a hilariously designed adventure that left me scrolling page after page to see how the party's adventure unfolded. Easily written and the pace was incredible! Definitely a stellar read! And damn if it doesn't make you want some roast beef and curlies..
