This is a typical mammoth intro textbook, which means it is far from adequate for intro courses. The authors assume that the student is going to devote eight hours a day to the intro course alone, a rather unrealistic expectation. There are dozens such textbooks, none practical. What the point in a many-page bibliography, which not even one in a thousand is even going to consult? It's about time we came down to earth, and started writing intro textbooks for intro courses.

It's very opinionated, as most sociology books are. I disagreed with several of the ideas in the book. The book was also somewhat confusing; its explanations weren't entirely clear. I used it for a college sociology class.

The vocabulary was extensive and could have done better by minimising dialogue and scenarios tended to be too complex. Globalization seemed to be a theme throughout the entire book. It is a pressing matter today, but it all seemed to go back to that mind set and thus promoting it.

The textbook is very interesting and teaches you a lot about what sociology covers. My book has fallen apart, though, so it has become difficult to read the pages. I have to be gentle with the book when I set it down and pick it up.

While the information sounds very much correct, I have found some assumptions which make the text difficult to swallow, particularly those assuming all humans act the same and those assuming only humans can react to experiments (this cannot be proven with current technology). As I read I just find more and more assumptions which are not necessarily correct and my opinion of the book continues to spiral downward. Concerning sociology specifically, the text appears quite knowledgeable, and despite the large blocks of text (I'd prefer this to be broken down by more tables and graphs) it is quite easy to read and understand.

Despite verifying the editor and edition online, when the book arrived, it was not the correct one. I ordered for my niece who needed it for classes and we ended up wasting a week or two waiting for this book and then having to get it from somewhere else.
