This book was required for a class, very good plus you have access to the publishers website where you can get quizzes. It was delivered quickly and excellent price compared to most college required books

This book was very informative and so easy to read. I tend to get confused when it comes to remembering dates and events that happened during different periods in time, however, this book is so straight forward that I had no problem remembering those dates and historical events.

This is the best history textbook that I have ever read. It is written like a novel, and I can't seem to put it down. From having bad memories of grade and high school classes I didn't want to take U.S. History ever again. But this book erases all of that! I found it interesting that capitalism actually started in England. I apologize to the people that already knew that, but I didn't know that. That's why I am in school.

This book also makes it clear that the more things change, the more they stay the same. Like one reviewer said, one can get dark on the people who started America, (I won't use the same words that he did). That being said, after reading this you will realize how decisions that men made hundreds of years ago are still being made today. Also, the troubles that plagued their society plague ours today. There are definitely parts of the story that will make you angry!

So, if you get a chance to take a U.S. History class look out for a professor using this textbook. "Give Me Liberty" also has a companion book which is a compilation of the important documents mentioned in the text: "Voices of Freedom: Volume 1."

Great book, if you are taking a history class. There are a lot of topics to discuss and Review Questions are good for re cap the chapter that you've learned. Basic and simple Paragraph Title gives you an idea what you are going to be learning.
Recommended!

This book is long winded and the chapters tend to drag on, but with the length of the chapters comes a ton of interesting and informative information
Its a good book for one that is required, lets just hope you don't have to lug it around.

Arrived as described and great price! If the store is responsible for packaging, this is directed towards them: I wasn't pleased with the packaging at all. I feel as though the items were assailable to environmental elements, or could have easily slipped out of the untapped packaging, or easily stolen.

However, if your class requires the 3rd edition, but you wanted to get around the exorbitant price of the new one, you can't really use this one instead. Each edition is revised considerably, and I had to buy the new one after getting this one. I usually don't like textbooks written by only one author, out of the fear that they will become too biased if they're the only ones writing it, but that didn't seem to be an issue here.

There are some books that I have purchased, and have been disappointed, because of the way the book was formatted. To be honest, some books are just so difficult to understand. I find myself finishing the chapters, without knowing exactly what I read. Does that only happen to me? I'm assuming no. Give me Liberty, however, is nothing like those kinds of book! I'm thankful for books like this, that can explain complicated scenarios, into a simple & insightful way. The organization in this, is very good, and the chapters, are laid out in a format that helps, you to read through it smoothly. I tend to feel I am learning from a friend when I read this. There are so many different sources, book, etc. you can learn history from. Reading this book is a very good choice, when wanting to educate yourself and expand your mind! I will be recommending this!

I think Foners books are amazing. They are very easy to follow and doesn't lead you astray. I like the first book much better but this one is still written well. You can tell the book is written with passion and accuracy. Givimh you details and facts you never would have thought about or new. It would be really great for high school too.

I generally dislike textbooks because I find them shallow and Eurocentric. But this is the best textbook I've ever used. Interesting and inspiring text, that reads like a novel, where every chapter is a climax. The author comes from a family of historians and civil activists and this dedication to justice and love for America is something that can be felt in his writing. The author tells America's story in a way that makes one really think about who we are and how we came to be this way as a nation. He doesn't skim over injustices towards Native Americans and slavery, but the text doesn't end on these either. Throughout the chapters the author repeatedly establishes connections to the world at large (unlike many history books that treat the US as if it developed in isolation). I used it for an undergrad American history course. I will not be taking any more courses in American history but I'm going to buy Vol 2 by the same author to learn more about 20th century US history.
