In the Heretic, Mr. Nassise creates a hero that is believable even with his special powers. This hero manages to get the job done, using whatever abilities he has. And he has some pretty specialized abilities. Slipping into shadow, Cade manages to go where angels fear to tread...with an automatic weapon in hand! Not all of his superiors believe that his abilties are "God given" and therefore, don't necessarily agree with his use of them. I found the knife edge walking between the two worlds very well written. Keeping the reader tied to the story all the way to the end. I've been waiting for years to get access to the second and third books in the series and finally Kindle has done it. Can't wait to get into them...

The recommendations blurb for this book said fans of the Mercedes Thompson & Harry Desden series would like it. I'm a huge fan of those series, but did not care for this book. Those books feature quirky protagonists who are fun to ride along with. Their books usually stay in the head of the protagonist, and that access to their thoughts (and internal snark) is a large part of the appeal. Those books also have a more whimsical prose style. This book hops around in a lot of characters' heads very quickly, so it's difficult to bond with anyone. The prose is more gritty and graphic. I can't tell you much about the plotting; I stopped reading after the first 50 pages, because I just couldn't get into it. It may be a fine book, but the comparison to the other two series doesn't do it any favors, that I can see.
The Enchantress (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel) :: The Necromancer (Secrets of The Immortal Nicholas Flamel) :: The Warlock (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel) :: A Book of Underrealm (The Academy Journals 1) - The Alchemist's Touch :: An American History (Seagull Third Edition) (Vol. 2)

Well written...keeps you interested right to the end. I enjoyed this stand alone novel with the different threads that clearly take you into the next chapter. I am eager to purchase and read the others.

The Heretic is a fantastic urban thriller. Magic, faith, and guns. Each step into the story is a wonderfully compiled, zip line ride into horror, mystery, and action.

While some of the editing leaves something to be desired, it only takes a moment or two before you are right back into the story at full throttle.

This book is not something I usually read. I enjoyed it very much. I recommended that you read this book due to the fact that it is good vs evil. Historical basis I believe to bring it all together. I am looking forward to read the rest of the books in this series. Six books in all.

You will love this novel. Great story and the pace is fantastic, the characters grow on you... The occult side is good too. The sad part is I will have to buy the collection to find out what happened!

At first I was hestant not having ventured far from Stephen King, but I absolutely loved this book and quickly devoured the second book in the trilogy...I would love to see this series on the big screen, I'd have Jason Stathom play Cade :)

Combining tense action and the magic of the Templars this series starts with a bang. The Heretic is a good read with well defined characters that engage fully and action that keeps your attention and doesn't disappoint. I'm looking forward to part two.

This book takes you into the Templar Knights and let you 'see' what they protect humanity from. First Templar book I found that had a bit of the supernatural in as well!

This will be a great read for anybody fascinated with the Knights Templar as I am and young adults might find this book interesting as well.

I enjoyed this book as I have always been fascinated by The Knights Templar. Their history and customs have always been intriguing. Whether this is based on facts or not, it is still an interesting read. It is fast paced and does not bog down. I would recommend to the adult readers
