This book is tailored to everyone. Meets the needs of each reader depending on the results of the quizzes taken at the beginning. The writer explains things in an everyday manner, while offering the more scientific explanation to those who are interested. If you want to skip over the scientific parts, she tells you what pages to skip to. I've been following her strategies recommended for my personal situation and I've seen improvements in my overall mood and health. I feel great. Great book. Would recommend to anyone in perimenopause and beyond.

This book is easy to read and soooo helpful! The questionnaire at the beginning sets you up for the guidelines that follow. You are cued to jump ahead to find the solution to your problem right away - or continue reading to learn more details and the science behind what's going on in your body. I would definitely recommend this book!

I think Dr. Gottfried is a strong writer, who offers lots of information for those who want to learn. She presents complicated information in a direct, easy to understand way that I think most women who want to learn will be able to understand. This isn't a "Reader's Digest" sort of book. Dr. Gottfried is direct in her approach, but comes across in a genuine manner...like your favorite doctor. I like that she isn't selling anything but information for women who want to better their lives.

Like the detailed facts, science, and case studies. However, every chapter says that if you just....., then you will be bouncy, happy, and fit. I will certainly try the protocols and report back my experiences

I love that this book advocates lifestyle changes over prescription medications.

But a caveat: I read this book, took the quizzes and all the results suggested that I was low in progesterone, high in estrogen and high in cortisol.

I made lifestyle changes and ordered herbs & supplements, including progesterone cream (none of which I got to use).

I had bloodwork done a couple of weeks later and my estrogen and progesterone are actually normal. My bloodwork showed high levels of mercury in my blood and urine, high cortisol at night and a few nutritional deficiencies, which are causing my symptoms.

I did love this book, but be careful with the quizzes and be careful about attributing your symptoms just to your hormones. You could end up medicating yourself in the wrong ways, and wasting your money on supplements that aren't right for you, like I did. Your problem could be a different one altogether.

I would recommend seeing a functional medicine doctor if you are struggling with your health and don't have clear evidence that it's down to hormonal imbalances.

Hard read - very technical. I'm trying to follow, but there is to much science and not enough of "just do this, then this, then this" Some people might find it interesting. I like a little reason and logic and science, but I didn't want to g back to school! I thin the author is brilliant - I've been flowing her work for several years. And I believe she is correct. But this was a but tough - not light reading.

I was somewhat disappointed in this book, however when I think about it realistically, how can someone diagnose something as complex as hormone levels in a book! So, that being said, I did get some valuable information about supplements that can be helpful. The bottom line, is you just have to find a good OBGYN that you trust. I have tried everything from meditation to yoga to cutting out sugar and spending time in nature. At the risk of bursting everyones bubble, I ended up going on prozac! The anxiety was just to much for me.My Dr. told me after dealing with this for years, you can actually ware out your brain, which can lead to senile demensia. Need I say more?

Am really enjoying Sara's book. Great reference tool, without going overboard on the technicalities - makes it easy to read (while still authoritative). Well laid out with lots of helpful ideas. Holistic, practical and worth the purchase price. A must-have for women interested in managing their own health without having to rely on prescription medicines, which often don't provide the solutions sought.

Full of eye opening information that can help you change your life for the better. She provides the opportunity to read more into the science of it or skip to the advice on how to improve your life. Well structured and very interesting!

This book was recommended by a female MD that specializes in women's issues and natural hormones.
I liked that the author stated this book is not a sit down and read through at once although one certainly could. Lots of information to consume. I've been picking out what concerns me most and then jumping around. Works for me.M Marshall

Dr.Gottfried has a lot of really good information in this book, most of which I will use. Though I am very pro free range and grass fed I got the feeling that if you couldn't see your way clear to do this you might as well not bother. I am probably being extreme here but I did feel her belief to an extreme and it made my task of following this plan seem more arduous. Yes I agree it is awful what big business does to our food but I feel we need to be championed into changing not guilted into it. Still I would recommend this book with a caveat.

Thanks Dr. Sara for putting out such a good practical book that any one can read. It is filled with a bunch of useful info and not a lot of Dr. Jargon that no one can understand. You make it fun, easy to read and troubleshoot your issues.
I printed the questionnaires from the book and took it to my Naturopath Dr. to help with my personal issues. That made it easy for her to understand where I was coming from.
Thanks for writing such a practical book.
P.S.
I love your podcast also!!!
Many Thanks

Reading through this right now, and already diagnosed myself with Thyroid problems. And...I'm a 28 year old male. I am otherwise very healthy, although I have noticed that since going paleo and interrmittent fasting that I have not gotten as great as results as other (acutally I've gained 10 pounds, although some is muscle). I pulled the trigger on buying this book after Sara's interview with Abel James, and my mom just started taking anti-depressants and I am positive there are better ways to make her enjoy her life.

Clear, concise, user friendly information with action items that you can easily do now to reset your hormonal balance. She pulls together the foundations of the information that you need to understand how your hormones got whacked out in the first place and how to identify what's going on. Then, how to correct it. Just the information I have been searching for for years!

The Hormone Cure is incredibly thoroughly written and I genuinely feel that I now understand A LOT more about hormones than I did before reading this book. I've implemented some of Dr. Sara's suggestions for improving cortisol levels (I haven't been so successful with it yet - a lifetime's worth of bad stress habits die hard!) as well as for upping my progesterone levels. I have already recommended this book to a good friend of mine, and think it would probably be a good idea for every woman to read it. It really is empowering to understand how our hormones affect us on every level, so that we can stop blaming ourselves for things that we had no idea how to control - until this book came along.

After finding Dr Sara through her talk at Sean Croxton's Sexy Back Summits this year, I purchased this book. It has been an absolute life changer for me. I highly recommend it to any woman who feels in any way out of sorts. After 10 days following the steps in the book the difference I felt was noticeable

I must have purchased 50 books on women's health, gone to countless doctors and spent hundreds of hours on the internet searching for answers so I was more than pleased Dr. Sara gets right to the point and cure. She names conditions, prescribes supplements and dosages. She talks about getting cortisol in line in 10 days. All I have ever heard from other health practitioners was it takes time, a long time. She suggests something called Phosphatidylserine (soy-free), referred to as PS to calm anxiety, help with sleep and brings down cortisol. About 15 minutes after taking it, I felt like a different person. My sleep has greatly improved. She nailed it. I've never had that kind of reaction before. Instant gratification, what a concept. I joined her newsletter and facebook and she continues to provide information and builds upon her book. Thumbs up for Dr. Sara.

Since going off of birth control pills my hormones were majorly out of whack. I began suffering from cystic hormonal acne at the age of 34 as well as irregular periods and major discomfort leading up to my period every month. I fell into the Accutane trap after my Dermo spent months convincing me to try it out and telling me that I would suffer from hormonal acne until menopause if I didn't take it. After 5 weeks and an increased dose I had a SEVERE side effect. I was desperate for answers and came across this book on a blog. After taking the questionnaire I figured out what my imbalance was and began treating myself with the recommended herbs. After a couple of months all of my symptoms have subsided. I am so thankful to have purchased this book!

I recommend this book to most of my female patients struggling with hormonal imbalance. It is an outstanding compilation of some pretty complex issues. I appreciate the author's humble candor about her own personal struggles/journey. It can get a little hokey at times, but I think she is just trying to make it more accessible and fun to the lay reader.

In this book Gottfried describes which hormones do what, how they interplay, and how to keep them in shape without resorting to pharmaceuticals. She does so in a way that patients can understand. She even gives readers, by the way the book is laid out, the option of just hitting the surface of a topic and getting what you need, or going deeper for understanding if your inclined. Gottfried is a Harvard trained medical doctor who "saw the light" and sprinkles throughout her book why conventional medicine, and the professionals who practice it, are typically unable or unwilling to recognize why their patients are not living the vibrant joyful lives they want, and could be, living. She provides advice ("telling" advice at that) on how to get your conventional doctor to pay attention to your symptoms and help you achieve a true cure, as oppose to a Big Pharma Band-Aid for your symptoms. A great resource guide for women who know they can have more energy, handle stress better, and live more joyful abundant lives, if only they had the right health care. There is a resource guide for finding practioners in your area who are open to thinking outside the box.
