I would recommend this book for everyone to read. I could not put it down and read it in 2 days. It's hard to believe what Ms. Park and her family went through. The concept of trying to escape North Korea because of immense hardships and no food is too much at times when reading. She is a area! Inspiration and this book let's us know what is really going on over there.

Excellent book. Read on my kindle. This book gives a whole new insight into just how terrible it is to live in North Korea, and just how bad the communist dictatorship there really is, and of Yeonmi Parks struggle and her final escape to South Korea. An excellent read.

Couldn't put it down. Gripping account of the terrible life a young girl and her mother and sister had in North Korea, and their suffering while escaping. A must read for anyone interested in how capitalism stacks up against communism.

Ms. Park, her mother, and sister are a A testament to the strength of the North Korean people despite the hardships and ruin the Kim regime has forced upon North Korea and her citizens. One can only hope and pray that the regime will fall due to its own lies and foolishness.

Touching story, but I need to remind people that none of this would be happening if we had only helped the Koreans in the years leading up to WW2. If we could've helped them against the Japanese occupation, the Kim's wouldn't have become this powerful. And although China doesn't welcome defectors from North Korea, you have to realize that by the end of the day, economic sanctions hurt the average people the most.

Timely narrative describing life in the closed culture that is North Korea. Unimaginable poverty and resourcefulness on the part of North Korean citizens that is related by this intelligent gentle author.

I have started collecting books on what I call the N Korean holocaust. This book was a very good addition as it concentrated on the human trafficking side of the problem. The book is an easy read. I read slowly but finished he back half in one sitting. A good addition to a library and i also recommend "Escape from Camp 14".

Please, read this book. Educate yourself on the horrors that exist outside the protected borders of the US. But also read it to see how similar we are, and that the only difference between us is the language we speak. Well written and inspiring, this book is incredibly moving and powerful.

Who'd have thought a nonfiction book about life in North Korea, problems in China and new life in South Korea could grab the reader as well as, if not better than, any best-selling fiction book? This book is an absolute cannot-put-it-down page turner. A fascinating read!

Thank you for sharing your story- your inner strength and determination to live is boundless. Under dire circumstances you have fought for your right and the rights of others to live openly in the world without prejudice or shame. Stand tall Yeonmi and Eunmi

I loved the book. The story is very inspiring and the book is very well written. An emotional roller coaster. I think this book should be read by youth everywhere including the United States not only to bring awareness to the issue at hand but to have some appreciation for the freedom many of our countries have the privilege to have while so many others do not.

I read this book after the most recent headliner of the UVA student being sentenced in North Korea. I knew a little bit about what truly goes on from a previous book but this one was different in its own right. I was captivated by the story and was constantly sympathizing with Yeonmi. She has a powerful story and I'm glad she shared. No one should judge her for her past and what she did to survivor. They should take inspiration from her life's journey. This book moved me to tears, especially with the pictures in the back. I highly recommend this book.

I could not put this down. Its unimaginable to most of us raised in a free country what this young girl and her family went through to attain freedom. Makes me appreciate the small things. After reading you will wish nothing but happiness for the family.

I really enjoyed this book! Ms. Park has a beautiful, descriptive writing style; her memoir was easy to read and engaging. Because our understanding of life in North Korea is so limited, I think it is so important to hear the stories of people like Yeonmi Park who have escaped. She bravely gives a voice to the countless others who have had similar experiences. The book also speaks to the resilience of human beings, and our ability to maintain optimism and hope, even in the worst of circumstances.

This is one of the most difficult, enthralling, educational, inspiring books I have ever read. I'm usually a slow reader but I read her book in about 5 days. I had to remind myself at times that this was not a work of fiction, but real life, and that North Korea really is as bad as we thought. She is so brave to tell her and her family's story despite the threats and pain it caused.

Horrifying to find out what these people have gone through and are probably still going through. It was a true eye opener. The title says it all... "In Order to Live". We don't truly appreciate the freedom we have until we find out how others are living in this day and age.

WOW !

This is an amazing story about a young girl that never gives up despite truly horrible circumstances. All free people should learn about life in North Korea to truly appreciate freedom. It is hard to believe that places like this still exist in the world today.

Yeonmi writes her inspiring journey for freedom and writes to tell the story and shed the light on how much these nK refugees sacrifice and suffer to escape nK. I applaud her honesty and I hope it will persuade other nK defectors to share their story.

What an eye opener, this should be required reading in school, even more so than "Animal Farm" because this is real. The content of this book should make all of us in the free world realize how much we take for granted, that we are allowed to read a book like this.

We must understand the truth of what is happening in North Korea. The author took a huge risk to share her powerful and eloquent life story, and it is for you and I to read it and learn and make it part of our life's mission and goals to help families such as hers find freedom and human dignity.

What an amazing book. The author speaks for oppressed people everywhere. The enemy of our soul is active everywhere but the work of Jesus Christ and the redemption of the cross will carry on. Thank you for your courage and boldness. May freedom, justice and dignity be given to all people as God purposes it. Thank you

Yeonmi tells the story with great courage of not only her escape but a life in North Korea that was unbearable. I literally could not put the book down. How she, as a child of thirteen could survive what she did shows how strong the need for freedom is.
