A story that captures your attention and grips at your heart from the beginning by the swooning, Detective Kyler, also known as Master Kyler, and our beautiful submissive heroine, Mia, who has a natural talent at mix media art.
What I always notice about Laura Kaye is her writing style. There is something that always makes me appreciate how well written a story is. I don't know if it is because of how well the words flow together and so naturally or the way she makes you feel every emotion that the main characters are going through. I can only imagine what she must feel as she writes these amazing stories. All I know is that I love everything she has written and Hard to Serve is no different.
We are introduced to our hero in the Hard Ink series (highly recommend) and I thought he was the perfect guy to get a happily ever after in a novella. And imagine my surprise when I found out he was a Dom in a highly exclusive, super savvy BDSM Club called, Blasphemy.
We are introduced to this new erotic world and I fell in love with the characters that were introduced, and so looking forward to the new series that is coming about the club. I thought it was an excellent way of introducing the new series!
Anywheres, back to our lovely couple. I don't want to go into too much detail since the synopsis gives away enough details on what to expect from the story, but I will say that I enjoyed watching these two go through some pretty steamy scenes together, and loved seeing how trustworthy they were with each other.
Mia was a fantastic heroine, I feel like she is very unique from other heroines that I have read. Perhaps it has something to do with how open she is to what she wants and has no problems going about it in a completely classy way.
Kyler and Mia complimented one another perfectly and the passion was real and it was there! The story was there; it kept me turning the pages for more. And I am looking forward to reading more from Laura Kaye!

Hard To Serve is a fabulous novella with equal parts romance and kink. It is hot and steamy but it also has great characters and a decent storyline to go with the sex and BDSM scenes. This book is part of a series, but works perfectly well as a standalone - I haven't read any of the other books but I followed the story with no problems. I believe this novella is a crossover book from a vanilla series to a new BDSM themed series revolving around the club that features in this book, so I'm looking forward to meeting some of the supporting characters in future books. This is the first book I've read by this author, but as I've just stated, I'll definitely be reading more as I loved her writing style and this book was totally addictive.

I really enjoyed the BDSM scenes, they were varied and a couple of them featured breath play which is not often included in romance stories like this. The breath play (choking to increase sexual pleasure) was fairly light and was done safely by a couple experienced in this type of play. Even if that is not your kink, please don't let it put you off as it's only a very small part of the story and you'd be missing out on a fantastic book - and personally I think it added a brilliantly gritty edge to an otherwise sweet story.

I loved the hero, Kyler, who is a super sexy cop - but the star of the show for me was the heroine. Mia is strong, hard working and great fun - she's someone I can imagine being friends with in real life. Their chemistry together is sizzling, they made a great couple - despite Kyler thinking that he's got nothing to offer in a relationship. Hard to Serve is fun, sexy story that I really enjoyed so it gets five big stars.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.

A crossover from the Hard Ink series into the forthcoming Blasphemy series, to get the most enjoyment from Hard to Serve, I would recommend reading the Hard Ink series first ( a great series well worth the read, imo).

Detective Kyler Vance is being investigated for corruption and has been left riding a desk while he recovers from a gunshot wound. The last thing he needs is to draw the wrong kind of attention from the police commissioner by getting kinky with the commissioner's daughter. Besides, he's seen first hand that relationships don't mix with police work and he's determined not to repeat the mistakes of his father and grandfather. Mia has a great new job doing work she loves in the same city as the father she adores. All she's missing is the man who can fulfill her needs both in and out of the playroom.

This was a fast read for me, and not just due to its novella length. While I found the plot a little predictable, Mia and Vance are great characters, and I loved the chemistry between the two. There are some intriguing secondary characters as well, especially the other Masters from the club; I was definitely left wanting to know more about them and I'm eagerly looking forward to their stories. An enjoyable read on its own and a nice set-up for the new series. 4 stars

This book is filled with hot scenes between Mia & Kyler!
Kyler is a detective he and the whole department are being investigated for corruption by the new commissioner Breslin, Kyler also is recovering from being shot in the shoulder and his shot is not back to 100% yet so he’s on desk duty. He needs to blow off some steam so he decides to go to Blasphenny to find a sub and release his pent up energy.
Mia is working her dream job working in an art gallery that she’s in charge of displaying different types of art. She’s been working non-stop getting ready for the next show and she needs a release, needs to give up control and be dominated. She got a trial guest membership to Blasphenny so what the heck she’s going to check it out tonight!
When Kyler sees Mia come in he can’t contain himself, he has to have her, he sees the ribbon on her band that represent her kinks and she’s perfect for him! After sharing a night like no other he’s not looking for a permanent relationship, can he just walk away from her after one of the best nights of his life? Will this work between them, can he get past his relationship fears? Read this book to find out!
Laura wrote a sexy story that will make you melt, you will crave your very own Kyler in your life!

Thoughts:

Kyler recurred in the Hard Ink series and played a huge role in helping our guys restore their reputations (If you haven't read this series you totally should!!) so he deserved his own HEA! (See one of my previous Hard Ink reviews here). What we hadn't seen was that dominate side of Kyler that was smoking HOT!!

And Mia was the perfect blend of submissive to Kyler! Her strength and willpower and desire to settle for nothing less than exactly what she wants were easy to relate to and aspire to! You can feel the intensity between these 2 characters coming through the pages! That is a trait that keeps me coming back to Laura Kaye's writing again and again. (did you read this attached blurb??!! That's the intensity that is displayed in the entire novella!!)

As a reader and blogger who has read every single contemporary romance word that Laura Kaye has put to paper, I have to say that this novella will stand out as an all time fave!! I see great things in this Blasphemy series!!

Kyler Vance is a man who thrives on domination. With his career stalling due to injury, and an ongoing investigation surrounding how he sustained it, the Baltimore Police Detective's need for control burns greater than ever.

With her career on an upward trajectory, Mia Breslin deems it time to focus on her social life. Being a submissive is not a new discovery for Mia, but what she does want is find is she is a Dom who can cater to her particular tastes.

Their outlet is Blasphemy, one of the cities most exclusive BDSM clubs. As one of club’s twelve Masters and experienced Dominants, Kyler is the Dom she has been searching for. Their scene is an spectacular encounter and what starts as a perfect distraction for Kyler soon overtakes his waking thoughts.

Hard to Serve had the intensity that I enjoyed so much with the Hearts in Darkness series and I'm glad to here this series will continue with each of the Masters getting their own book.

Laura Kaye serves up a sizzling feast of dominance, intimacy and desire, that satisfies the kinkiest of appetites with it's erotic yet passionate offering.

Hats off to Laura Kaye for writing this hot little ditty.

I honestly wasn’t expecting the pure satisfaction out of these two characters that I received. For me, sometimes novellas are hard to get into because they are these short and sweet writings and while I usually like them, I never feel like I really get to know them in such a short time frame. However, with Kyler and Mia, it was all perfect.

LK wrote two wonderful characters that were able to meet, learn who the other was, grow with each other, and face uncertainties. It was pure hotness all around. I cannot deny that Kyler and Mia created a fantastic couple together and that this time together made for a steamy read.

Now I haven’t read all of LK’s books but this is the first D/s book of hers that I have come across and I have to say that she nailed it and I am looking forward to more. I will also say that I hope this turns into a series because LK set up some pretty interesting characters at the club that I would love to read about and see who she pairs them up with and I hope it is a beautiful pairing like Mia and Kyler.

Wow! In this Hard Ink series novella, things are really steamy at the Blasphemy BDSM club. When Kyler meets Mia at Blasphemy, their first scene together is oh, so scorchin' hot! Kyler has all it takes to flip all of Mia's buttons, and they share a connection that neither can deny, no matter how hard they fight it.

Things go back and forth between them, as they try to decide whether they can have a life beyond the club. That idea gets smashed when Kyler discovers that Mia is his boss's daughter. Talk about two broken hearts.

I really liked this. It's very hot, with an intriguing story -- can Kyler and Mia make a go of it? You'll have to read to find out.

If you like the Hard Ink series, this is a must. If you haven't read that series before, this works well as a standalone.

Everything worked well in this story for me. Great addition to the series and preview of Laura Kaye's new series centered around Blasphemy. I think I like that the most, that there will be more from the BDSM club.

Overall, an incredibly steamy BDSM romance with likable characters.

Ok , confession time. When I started reading the book, I literally put it down and told myself I would not read any more. It went totally against my comfort zone since it dealt with Doms, submissives, “a play club” etc. Way out there for me with it’s edgy topic , and over the top sex. But, I LOVE Laura Kaye , and her Hard Ink series, so I was determined to take the personal outlook out of the mix.
The story centers on Detective Vance, whom we met in a previous book, and Mia Breslin, a young gallery director. She got a trial invitation to a play club and decides to go . There she meets Kyler Vance, a Dom and part owner of the club. Insightful description of what happens in play clubs, while still maintaining a good story. Things get hot between them until Kyler discovers who is her Dad.
The edginess continues till the end, but also has a human side in which we see the inner feelings of both main characters. Enough interest that now I want to know what happens with another Dom, Griffin , in the next book.
Who knew ?!?!

I got an ARC copy for an honest review.

Hard to Serve by Laura Kaye is sexy, titillating, and completely addictive. Detective Kyler Vance is under investigation and decides to head to his club for a distraction. Mia Breslin is the perfect distraction. She’s trying out membership at the club, which is perfect for him, because he doesn’t want anything lasting, but he doesn’t count on this submissive getting under his skin.

Mia and Master Kyler are so freaking hot together. The chemistry is explosive and will provoke jealousy. I am so jealous of Mia…I would definitely try my hand at being a submissive if Kyler wanted to dominate me. Mia and Kyler’s attraction for each other goes beyond physical though. They can talk to each other about anything, without awkwardness and you can tell Kyler really cares about Mia’s safety and pleasure…even after her time with him.

Laura Kaye is a must-read author for me and she continues to raise the bar when it comes to romance. If you’re looking for a quick and smoking hot read, you definitely need to read Hard to Serve!

Out of fire into the frying pan ...

The perfect metaphor for Mia and Kyle's relationship. Kyle is feeling the heat in professional life. Needing to let off some steam he finds himself addicted to Mia. She gives him just what he needs to relax and thus begins a romance that is fundamental to his heart but may prove toxic to his career. I received an ARC of Hard to Serve by Laura Kaye in exchange for an honest review. It was great to catch up. Laura Kaye mixes spicy drama with meaningful stories that are wickedly addictive fun. Fast, fierce and sexy.

This book was quick as expected. Even though there was a little bit of a storyline with each of the main characters, there was very little content to go with it. The main focus, I felt was the d/s relationship between Mia and Kyler. I have read quite a few of these types of books and I like them and I am totally comfortable reading the content.
I didn’t feel much if anything along the lines of romance between Mia and Kyler but their physical connection was apparent. There was enough there for me to believe it. It was pretty much insta-love, which is no surprise when taking into account the length of the book. The bdsm scenes were well written. If you need a book with a deep storyline and lots of romance, this one might not be the best choice but if you want to spice things up a bit with your reading or this is your go-to type of book, I think you will enjoy it.
What would have made it a five star read for me would have been more storyline involving Mia and Kyler’s backgrounds and their jobs; their lives in general. Maybe add a jealous ex or something to add a little drama and suspense to the book.

I absolutely LOVE Laura Kaye! But like many others I am very wary of BDSM books. Most of the time the sexual content is so overwhelming and getting to know anything about the characters is very hard.
But as usual, Laura Kaye rocked this book. Oh my gosh was this hot!! Kyler and Mia had it all. I loved them together and as individuals. Their chemistry was exhilarating! I cannot wait to read more about this club. Well done yet again, Laura Kaye! You never disappoint.

Dear lord Laura Kaye, you naughty, naughty woman!! But, in the very best way. This book is so completely different than any that I have read by LK before, so I didn’t really know what to think going into it. But, she definitely did not disappoint.
I had no idea that Kyler was the kind of man he was. Meeting him and seeing him in the previous Hard Ink books gave me no indication that he was a Dom, or that he was so involved in the lifestyle that he was an actual Master at his own BDSM club! Who would’ve thought? I didn’t think any of these LK men could be as down and dirty as Marz (he was my favorite dirty birdie- mainly because it was so unexpected), but Marz has NOTHING on Kyler Vance. The man is like his own force of nature! The only downside that he possessed that I could see, was an incredible amount of self-doubt when it came to whether he could make things work with Mia. He was constantly feeling as though she needed better in her life, or that he couldn’t give her exactly what she needed, which was so unlike his dominant persona. There were so many times I wanted to smack him upside the head, or shake the crap out of him, so he could get his head out and see that all Mia needed or wanted- was him.
Now Mia, she threw me for a loop as well. I didn’t realize just how much some people need a certain lifestyle in order to truly be happy. But she most definitely required someone in her life that could allow her inner submissive to shine. I understand how, given her father’s profession and position in such, that it was difficult for her to find a long-standing partner in her life. The man that won Mia had to be a true Dom, both in and out of the bedroom, because that is what made Mia’s heart and soul sing. There was no other man that I could’ve thought better for that job than Kyler. These two were, as stated by one of the other Masters of Blasphemy, two sides of the same coin. Her light to his dark, his hard to her soft- equal halves of the same heart. So, it killed me to see how quickly and deeply she fell for Kyler, only to have him walk away when his head got the best of him. Luckily, his head eventually caught up to his heart and things worked out.
If there is one thing that I can say about this book, it’s that it was a complete surprise to me to see LK write this kind of story. A wonderful surprise though. So, if you are wondering whether you can get into a BDSM book written by Laura Kaye- trust me, you can! You will get so involved in these two that you’ll find yourself wanting more- more of the men that you meet in their book, and the women that may come along to bring them to their knees (even if they are Masters). You’re going to devour this one- just as I did. Luckily, LK’s new series is all about Blasphemy- and I cannot freaking wait!!

Hard to Serve was a great introduction to the new series, Blasphemy. We got a glimpse of Kyler Vance in the Hard Ink series, and I looked forward to his story. He was just as delicious as I thought he would be. Alpha dominant to the core. I enjoyed the way he handled his issues at work, as well as his feelings for Mia. Mia is a great character. She may be a submissive, but she's also strong, independent and sassy. Those things aren't mutually exclusive, which is nice to see in a BDSM story. I liked the level of kink these two experimented with. It was edgy and exciting, and so very sexy. I really look forward to the rest of the Masters of Blasphemy.

Kyler is still under investigation for the incident at Hard Ink's building where he, Jeremy and Kat were shot while fighting dirty cops and the Church gang. He's riding the desk and biding his time while the department investigates everything that happened. But it's Blasphemy club where he's a co-owner that he meets Mia, an artist new to Baltimore and the club. They meet and enjoy joy each other, but what Kyler doesn't know is that Mia is the police commissioners daughter. But when he tells Mia that he doesn't want a relationship right now, she takes it rather hard because she's started to care for him and wants to be his Sub.

This us a quick short read that follows Kyler and Mia as they play at the club and soon become more involved with each other while the reader is introduced to Ms Kate's upcoming new series featuring the Master Doms of Blasphemy and the women they fall in love with.

We also get to visit briefly with the Hard Ink family that we have all come to love, as well as be a part of their exciting and surprising news.

HOT! HOT! HOT!—cold shower type of hot. Hard to Serve isn’t just about sex (even though a good portion of the book takes place at Blasphemy BDSM Club). Hard to Serve is a beautiful love story about Kyler, a man that fears love and commitment, and Mia, a girl thats wants someone so bad that it hurts. (get ready for the tears to flow).
Making the story even better (if that is possible) is visiting with characters from other books. If you have read the Hard Ink Series, and if not I must ask what is stopping you, Det. Kyler Vance aided the guys in their fight against corruption, biker gangs, and so much more. For instance Kyler when went to Jer to get a tattoo it allowed readers to catch up with characters from Hard Ink.
Hard to Serve introduces us to Laura Kaye’s new series, Blasphemy. She has kicked it off with a Big Bang!!!! The supporting characters added a lot to this story. I cannot wait to meet them in more detail (especially Master Quinn-hint!hint!)

This was a very good story filled with emotions and characters that came alive when I read.

Some of the things I appreciate the most in this book is that there's no unnecessary descriptions of surroundings and a lot of dialogues.

This is a crossover novella and if you haven't read Hard Ink series I recommend reading it but it's not necessary before reading this one. But the recommendation is real, I loved the Hard Ink series and look forward to dive in to Blasphemy next.

I recommend this book if you like BDSM romance, it is written in a way that made me feel comfortable to read about it.

Commitment phobic Kyler is a one and done kinda guy. He's a cop and relationships don't work for cops, right? One night, Mia waltzes into Blasphemy and he is drawn to her like a moth to a flame. Their kinks line up so well and first scene together is explosive. Although determined to walk away, he keeps coming back for more. He finally lets Mia slip from his life only to find he is miserable and yet when given a second chance he still let's her go again. Finally coming to his senses he realizes he has to have her in his life but has he run out of chances.

This was a perfect blend of hot, imposing Dom and the woman who knows what she needs. It was steamy and substantial. In a quicker than I wanted story, Vance and Mia are two people that are trying to play by the rules. Their romance is told along the story of Vance’s troubles with the police department. There is a lot of interaction with other characters that have their own stories. It is just enough to make you want to go snatch those stories up after this one.

My rating: 5 Stars

Okay let’s face it – Hard to Serve was HOT HOT HOT!!!! For a novella, this is a 5 star read for me. Laura sure knows how to deliver a sexy, passionate, erotic romance and with substance. She has a nice sweet storyline in addition to all the passionate BDSM/love making.

Detective Kyler is a sexy, alpha male and owner of an exclusive play club called Blasphemy. Mia is the director of the city’s hottest art gallery. She is a beautiful, talented, and independent person, but submissive in the bedroom. Mia gets a temporary membership at Blasphemy – with relentless encouragement from her friend, Mia finally works up her nerve and visits the place. There she meets Kyler. He cannot not keep his eyes off Mia. He is determined to make Mia submit to him. Kyler and Mia’s chemistry inside and outside of the bedroom is explosive. As their relationship burns hotter, Kyler finds out who Mia really is and it does not look good. She is the daughter of his newfound boss. He is caught in the middle of an internal affairs investigation and is not on the good side of his boss at the moment. What will he do? Will he choose his job or continue the forbidden relationship with Mia? Will his heart survive when Mia finds herself another Dom?

Hard to Serve felt like a full book to me. There is a complete storyline – one I have not read before detective/Dom and submissive daughter of his boss. The element of forbidden love is very intriguing and appealing — I could not put it down. The chemistry between the two main characters is clearly conveyed as passionate, sensual yet erotic and dark. Of course I love the sweet, sweet ending. I think this is an introduction to Laura’s next series Blasphemy which I can’t wait to read. I don’t read a whole lot of erotic genres but I am very intrigued by their BDSM lifestyle. Besides, I am a huge fan of Laura Kaye’s writing and stories – flawless, so I am really looking forward to more. I would love to see stories of the secondary characters Griffin and Quinton.

Overall, this was a fantastic short read. Sizzling, steamy, panty-dropping HOT! Read it:)

This book was fantastic. The story is do compelling and grabs you from the first sentence. Who knew when we started reading the hard ink books that Vance had such a kinky side? He is totally hot and commanding! The storyline brings you to a whole new world and you don't want to leave. I loved everything about this book! I just wish it was longer to stay with them more. Can't wait to read more about this world and the other fascinating men of Blasphemy.
This book was given to me for an honest review.

This book was Laura Kaye's hottest book yet. Venturing into the BDSM scene isn't something everyone can accomplish, but she did it and she did it well. She completely owned it. I'm very excited to know that we will be getting a Blasphemy Club series from Laura after reading this insanely hot book. Don't get me wrong, we still see plenty of relationship ups and downs. We watch Kyler slay his demons. All in all, this book was a perfect mix of sex, love, and deep emotional turmoil.
