I finished it in 1 morning. The book was exciting and while I actually did guess who the killer was early on, I'll admit I was close to changing my mind toward the end and picturing a very different scenario. Of course I've read so many psychological thrillers it's not too surprising I'd figured it out. The plot was twisting and it will keep you guessing throughout the book.

Putting this book down was as close to impossible as it can get. Hardships and obstacles Clara has to face in order to be the rock that her loving 2 year old son needs cant come any faster. I felt her frustration as my own, which hooked me from the start. Hoping for a happy ending sorrounded by pain and plot twists was what made me need to finish the boom ASAP. A must read, a well deserved 5/5 stars does not do it justice, i wish i can give it a 6th.

There were so many blank areas, nonsensical, No one in a police force would assume without investigating, testing in such a massive murder .

No
explanation for how we went from A to B to C .
The police could easily have followed up and done tests that proved they were in the wrong. I found myself getting very frustrated as if I was putting together a puzzle but at least a dozen pieces were missing.

The rendering of the mother's character in this story was very compelling and realistic, and very empathetic, even though she has some difficult choices to make. She is confronted with so many issues returning to her childhood home, and dealing with them pushes the narrative quickly forward. I highly recommend this for mystery readers.

This was a solid, suspense book. It definitely answers the question about how far a mother will go. Clara is willing and ready to give her all to make sure her son gets the treatment he needs. She finds a past that she was not expecting and has to come to terms with some things that occurred to fight her way through her situation.

The protagonist in this story is an idiot. She makes bad choice after bad choice and continually puts herself in harms way. Its like a slasher movie where the character just keeps running back into the killers lair. Weak dialouge. Not much character development and no humor or clever insights.

I really liked this book but I thought that Clara was a bit naive at times, she was a little too trusting. I thought I had figured out who the bad guy was early on and I was right. It didn't ruin the story for me at all though. I liked the ending. I would recommend it.

I received this arc for an honest review.. Although this book is a psychological thriller with a big twist it fell a little flat for me. Clara left her hometown 20 years ago when her parents disappeared. She has a son who has a rare disease and she is offered the chance to do a documentary to help pay for medical expenses, which of course land her back home. Upon her arrival her parents bones are found and examined and all fingers point to her. Clara relies on her one friend Amanda , her only friend she can trust to help care for her son while she tries to clear her name. I was surprised with the twist and it was a decent read ..3 stars from me

Good fast read. Have to say some sequences seemed a little long and uninteresting,. Some scenes (the grocery store parking lot beating) seemed hard to understand that NO ONE thought to call police. Still worth an afternoon indulgence.

Jo really orchestrated a wonderfully flowing piece of art, here. With no effort at all you'll fly through each page, only to find your stunned one again. It'll leave you wanting more. I'll remember Clara and James. Wondering how they're fairing in Hickory Hills, dreaming of the success of McNair Resorts. Dreading to think some folks grudges may not quite be forgotten.

Very entertaining! I couldn't believe what I was reading! Wow! What a writer. One twist after another. Looking forward to reading more of Jo Crow's books. I haven't been this excited about a book I read in a long time. You have got to read it. It was almost as if I was there feeling everything she went through. Great book!

Good story line, but somewhat implausible. A house left for 10 years and exactly the same, even to having her clothes in drawers. I Don't think so. Why and how did the cops know to come. They had not been informed what was happening. And, they thought she was guilty

The summary initially intrigued me, but I found myself not as interested the more I kept reading. I was hoping for more twists and turns, but the story was decent. It was an easy read and very easy to follow.
