I would suggest this not only for personal reading but can also be used in a Men's study group. This book allows the reader to study and take note of their on personality and look at what it took for these men to grow in Christ.

John MacArthur is a great teacher, you can always depend on him for his knowledge of Jesus. In Ephesians it says that God has given some to be teachers and God has blessed John MacArthur with the gift of teaching.

This book gives and incredible view into the lives, personalities, and spirituality of the 12 disciples. it was great encouragement to me, and others based on their average faith, and average gifts. It clearly shows what the power of the gospel can do through us.

never knew there was so much information from the Bible and history about the ageless 12 who set the framework for the church and new testament.
MacArthur passionately and meticulously fills in so many blanks and answers so many questions about the 12

I feel like I know the Apostles much better now. More like ordinary men put into Gods hands who did extraordinary things through them. They were just like any one of us, but walking with God they did great things for His Kingdom.

The workbook is not only an excellent tool to aid group discussion on each chapter, but extremely useful if you are reading the book solo and want to delve deeper into the subjects covered in each chapter especially in the application of your own life.

I have always wondered about these men who were specifically called by Jesus to be his nearest and dearest. This account filled in so many blanks in my knowledge. Very readable, understandable...powerful.

An absolute MUST for anyone studying the apostles. My Sunday School class wanted to do a Bible Study on who the apostles were. Each member was to research an apostle and present. We found this book to be the most in-depth, factual, extraordinary documentation of twelve ordinary men. We found no other one book as complete in every aspect of these men's lives as John MacArthur's. MacArthur's writings made these men come alive to us and helped us to understand the ministry of Jesus so much better. We keep reading the book over and over, each time gleaning more and more information. Thank you Mr. MacArthur! I purchased seven of these books from the store.

Haven't finished reading yet, but so far I really like the style of the authors writing. I'm looking forward to reading about the Men who were close to Jesus. I anticipate learning about each of these special men.

This book does an excellent job of telling us more about the common, ordinary men God used to further kingdom. For me it gave more understanding of the gospels and the true nature of the good news than I ever had. More over it took me deeply into myself and my own relationship with Christ. Well written easy to understand and well supported with scripture.

I really enjoyed this one. We study about the Disciples all the time, but how much do we really know about them? This question is skillfully answered by this author. About one third of the book is primarily about Peter. That shouldn't surprise anyone as Peter was the most outspoken and was generally at the forefront of all that was taking place.
It's impossible to know 'all' about each of Christ's closest followers but what is known (and more) is well covered. I personally enjoyed trying to identify which of these men I was most like. I picked two. One was the person I definitely identify with and the other was the person I would rather identify with.
Whether you are a relatively new Christian or have been a Christian all of your life, you will find this book very informative, interesting and easy to read.
Your Sunday School class or small group could easily use this as a study.

Our Circle is studying The Apostles for the next two years. This book is a great addition on my study of the them. I also order The Master's Men to use along with this study. I have already found John MacArthur's description of Andrew very helpful and insightful of how we can be like Andrew who was not as well know as his brother Peter, John and others but was always there for the Master.Twelve Ordinary Men: How the Master Shaped His Disciples for Greatness, and What He Wants to Do with You

Liked all of the Twelve Odinary Men except one. The two paper back cover books one was ok but the other one was way too small for the church group I am teaching to read. That book was a waste of money.

Does anyone have the hidden talent to lead and inspire others? Our Sunday school class chose this book for weekly study to learn where these 12 men started and how they grew. Thought provoking and inspiring, it sparked some lively discussions. It contained so much new information that I purchased it to read again.
