Taste continues the budding relationship between Drake and Victoria begun in Darkness Awakened which I have not read. Drake was sacrificed as a 12 year old and sent to hell for 1500 years before he got out. In this book, he and Victoria act on their feelings for each other, Drake finds out he still has family alive and the bad guy acts against Drake and family again. The story stands alone well enough that I had no problems following along.

I really liked the world Katie Reus is developing in this series. There are wolf and dragon shifters, demons, vampires and possibly more. There are lots of secondary characters who will undoubtedly be the focus in future books and they're all interesting and likable.

My favorite series have lots of secondary characters that play a role in the story line versus just mentioned for backdrop so I liked the focus of the book not being solely on Drake and Victoria and their romance (I would say the romance is 1/3 of the book, the suspense and focus on other characters 2/3.) Readers looking for a strong romance story line might be disappointed. There are several low key romantic moments (both characters are virgins, but it's believable given both of their life circumstances.) There are two more intense sex scenes.

It's not quite amazing, but darn close and I'm going to jump on the .99 sale price at the store for Darkness Awakened. 4.5 stars

The second book in the Darkness series by Katie Reus. I had been waiting for Drakes story since I met him in book 1. I absolutely love shifter stories, but dragons are by far my favorite.
After escaping from Hell, in book 1, Drake, a dragon shifter, struggles to find his place in this new world. Being in Hell for 1500 years, well let's just say a lot has changed here on earth. He met his mate as soon as he escaped, and nothing matters more then him then making his way, learning, and becoming someone Victoria can count on in this world.
Victoria, a wolf shifter, a healer, is loved and cared for by her pack. She feels such a connection to Drake, but she believes he thinks of her as a friend who will teach him what he needs to learn to live in this world. No matter what, it is in her nature to help him anyway she can.
Once Drake marks her with his scent, she knows he feels the same way for her as she does for him, but yet he still holds back. Throw in more Dragon shifters, Drakes family, that he remembers nothing about until his memories start coming back bit by bit as he meets them. But Drake was betrayed and sent to Hell as a child, and until he remembers everything, Victoria won't be safe.
Victoria and Drake are the sweetest, badass couple. I loved watching them find their way in love, as well as through the danger that comes at them as he gets closer to his betrayer.

Taste of Darkness is the 2nd installment in the Darkness series by Katie Reus. It is narrated by the sexy voice of Jeffrey Kafer. I listened to this book on Audible. I love Katie Reus’ books. She always spins an engaging tale. I very much enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
Drake Petronilla is an ancient dragon shifter that had been imprisoned in hell for 1,500 years. He is finally able to escape and finds himself in a new unfamiliar world. He is a strong, smart adaptable dragon that meets Victoria and falls for her fast. He knows immediately that she is his mate. Victoria is a wolf shifter and the healer for the Stavros Wolf Pack. She is intelligent, kind and a very valued pack member. She befriends Drake, not realizing his feelings.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unscripted review.

REVIEW:
Taste of Darkness picks up a few months after the end of Darkness Awakened (bk1). Drake is out of Hell and trying to figure out his place in the world. He may not have much in the way of money or experience in this new world, but one thing Drake does know is that he will do everything to be the man that Victoria needs. But as Drake tries to navigate this new world the past comes back to bite him in the butt
This was a great follow up to Darkness Awakened. I knew from the minute the Drake blasted on to the pages that he would be a very important person in this world. And I was right. Drake’s reappearance into the world really up roots the world. And brings in a whole bunch of new characters that I can’t wait to read about. Drake and Victoria are just to cute together. I loved the Drake is trying so hard to be who he thinks Victoria wants. Yet Victoria keeps telling him that all she wants is Drake, just the way he is. I hope that Ms. Reus will revisit these two soon.

This book is part two in the Darkness series, and I have to say this one is just as good if not better then the first one. Drake is an ancient dragon shifter who has spent a thousand years imprisoned in hell. He has known that Victoria was his mate ever since he first smelled her when he escaped hell. Victoria is a wolf shifter and has been attracted to Drake since the first time she has seen him. Drake wants to mate with Victoria but he wants to wait until he can better take care of her. He also wants to find out who sacrificed him and sent him to hell. I loved this book and how he met his family. I love all of the characters and can’t wait to see what happens next! The book is fantastic; it has it all romance, suspense, mystery, and hot sexy shifters. I can’t wait for the next book.
A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

Taste of Darkness is the 2nd book in the Darkness series by Katie Reus. We find Drake, a dragon shifter recently returned from Hell, where he was sacrificed decades ago as a child. He has no memories of his time before Hell. He has found his mate, Victoria, a wolf shifter but feels he must better himself before claiming her. He has no sexual experience and Victoria has been guarded and protected since joining her pack and doesn't have much experience. Their romance is sweet, sexy, dangerous, and explosive.

Victoria and Drake search for answers to other dragon shifters and the person who betrayed Drake. It doesn't take long before Drake's family finds him as well as the betrayer from his past. Victoria is injured and Drake makes the decision to return to his clan and their healer for her sake, as the betrayer remains close by bringing danger closer and closer.

This book is well worth reading. You will be sitting on the edge of your seat pushing Drake and Victoria to find the betrayer that is among them. I look forward to reading books in this series. Kudos to Katie Reus for her outstanding writing.

I received an autographed copy of this book from a contest, and thus was introduced to this author. I am HOOKED!!! It was such a great story, I finished it in record time...3 1/2 hours!! I am definitely getting the rest of this series as soon as I can, and I am -definitely- going to check out the other series that Ms. Reus writes! I did feel a little behind, as this was the second book of the series, but the author made sure that there was enough back story that you understood, and get caught up in wanting the first and subsequent books in the series. Absolutely loved Victoria...great strong heroine, and Drake was an awesome compliment to her! Just WOW!!! (Off to get the first book and settle in to reading an awesome new-to-me author!!!)

I absolutely loved this book. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. I haven't read many books with dragon shifters in them, but this one makes me want to read more.
Drake, a dragon shifter, is your typical alpha male. Strong, protective, possesive-my favorite kind of male character. His mate, Victoria, is a sweet little wolf shifter, a healer in her pack, but with a spine of steel. After being sacrificed at a young age to open the gates to hell,Drake spent many years in hell fighting and trying to survive. When he is finally able to break free and come back home, he meets Victoria. Unfortunately, Drake has no memory of his past or how he actually ended up in hell so many years ago. When the traitor from his past comes at him again, Drake must fight for his mate and his newly found family if everyone is to come out of this alive.
Taste of Darkness is action packed with some hot, sexy romance thrown in. I absolutely loved this book. This is a great series that I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys paranormal romance.

I have been intrigued with Drake since he was released and saved Vega. I am so happy we didn't have to wait long to get his story and man was it a great read. Victoria was so easy to like and she was so strong for Drake. There was plenty of plot development, suspense on Drake's history, multiple possible bad guys, lots of hot sexy moments and tender times. Drake was so endearing in his sexual inexperience despite his time in Hell, and that he and Victoria got to experience it all together as a first for each was lovely. We get a peek in on Vega, Finn and Lila, I for one can't wait for Gabriel to meet his love. We met several new characters in Conall and Keelin, and the other dragons. I am excited to see both of these new characters more, hopefully we get Keelin's story next. Twining the wolf, dragon and vampire worlds together is unique and I am very much enjoying this creative fun hot series. I loved the Taste of Darkness by Katie Reus. This is the 2nd book in the Darkness series but can be read as a stand alone story and be thoroughly enjoyed as I found out as I have not yet read book 1.
The main character Drake, is a dragon shifter. He's not long escaped imprisonment from hell and is trying to settle to a life of freedom and to a life of many changes with the help of a wolf shifter named Victoria. He is a wonderful character, he's very intense and tough but very protective and gentle to Victoria as he knows she is to be his mate. But Drake believes he has to better himself before he can claim her.
Victoria want's Drake, she knows he's nervous, this world is all new for him, and she doesn't want to scare him away.
The story was a real page turner, the characters are very likeable, with exciting action, a little intrigue and a sweet romance. A very entertaining read, I look forward to reading more books from the Darkness series.

LOVED IT, I absolutely love Katie Reus's books and the 2nd book in her Darkness Series does not disappoint. I could not put it down once I started and I can't wait for the next book. Great characters that you feel for and fall in love with their strength and their heartfelt relationships.

I like to write reviews but I like to keep them simple and not tell you the whole story in my review…so here it is, would I tell my two best friends to read this book yes or no…YES, I would most definitely tell them to read Taste of Darkness!

I read over 100 books in 2013, from Bikers, Military Ops and Serial Killers to Shifters, Vamps and Fairies…I don’t discriminate as long as there is a sexiness, mystery and a story line that keeps me up past my bedtime! I’ll try anything!

I wish you good reading!

I love dragons! Don't you just love dragons? This is the story of Drake, the dragon from Darkness Awakened, and his wolf shifter Victoria.

Victoria is the Stavros pack's healer and Drake was a former resident of Hell. This is a great story of how instinct is great, when it comes to finding your mate, but it's nice to get to know them first. In the 4 months between Darkness Awakened and this book, that's exactly what these 2 did. They got to know each other first. Of course, when they start to go to the next level, that's when all the fun starts. Or should I say drama? Let's go with drama?

I love the romance and the mystery had me going. I really did not know who it was until everyone else did.

You won't be disappointed, I tell you.

"Growl all you want. The sound is...appealing."

TASTE OF DARKNESS by Katie Reus is an incredible paranormal urban fantasy romance and I loved it! It's the second novel in Katie's Darkness series and there are interconnected characters, but it can be fully enjoyed as a standalone; That's the way I read it. I was drawn into the tale right away. As the story opens, Drake, a dragon shifter, is learning to drive a car under the tutelage of Victoria, a wolf shifter. LOL!

“Always strap in. As supernatural beings we're pretty much going to survive any crash, especially you, but the police are more likely to pull you over if you're not strapped in."
"I'm certain they could pull you over for many other infractions," he murmured, doing as she instructed with the seatbelt.” ... “I've seen you burn trained vampires to a crisp and swat supernatural beings away with your wings as if they were insects bothering you, and my driving is terrifying?"
"Well it's not good.”

This is the second book in the Darkness series that can be read as a stand-alone but we first meet some of the characters in Darkness Awakened which is a very good book.

Drake is a dragon shifter who was imprisoned in Hell when he was still a child and survived a millennium of horrors and loneliness until the day he was released into a modern world he knows nothing about with only vague memories of his childhood. He was drawn to a woman, a wolf shifter, the day he was released from his prison, a woman who befriended him and he’ll do anything to protect her.

Victoria is a wolf shifter, part of a very special pack that has different types of paranormals within it, a rarity in the shifter world, a pack that has taken Drake in as one of their own. Drake is lost in this new world he finds himself in and being a healer Victoria helps him to learn but it is not just because of her nature that she assists him for she is fascinated with him, finding herself drawn to him as he is to her.

Dragon shifters are not commonly known to exist in this world the author has created for they hide from the paranormal community as well as humans. The appearance in the world of a new dragon was felt by others of his kind and so it is that Drake’s family finds him for dragon kind set out to find one of their own and in the finding there is much danger for there is someone who wants the truth to how Drake ended up in Hell and their betrayal kept secret.

I loved the character Drake who I first met in Darkness Awakened and the instant attraction he had to Victoria that day, it was more than attraction, it was two destined to be together, and now we get to see them navigate the pitfalls of finding their way to claiming each other as mates which I found so touching for Drake does not believe he has anything to offer a woman.

There is something about Drake that just calls to you, perhaps it is his innocence of the world combined with his alpha male tendencies, protectiveness and tenderness to Victoria, and for a soul who has spent most of his life in Hell he has a good heart and is righteous. Victoria is spunky and sassy and even though she is a healer she’ll fight for him as he will for her. I loved these two captivating characters. There is much action and suspense as the mystery of Drake’s past unfolds, the story keeps your attention and you can’t help but want Drake to finally claim his mate and get his vengeance. There were great supporting characters that I hope to see get their own books.

ARC provided by the author.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley for an honest review. Thank you NetGalley for I love Katie Reus.

I love shifter books and was excited to read Taste of Darkness for I loved Darkness Awakened, the first Darkness series book.

Darkness awakened picks up a few months after the first book, telling the story of Victoria and Drakos. I recommend reading the first book to get an understanding of the Stravos pack and their dynamics.

Victoria is a no nonsense woman who is not afraid to go after what she wants and Drakos knows Victoria is meant for him. The chemistry is off the charts and the story is very captivating.

I will definitely be reading more of this series.

The second book in the exciting Darkness Series is a hit! This thrilling story is a look into a few of the complicated characters introduced in book one. Drake is a dragon who just escaped hell after being trapped since a child. He is accepted into the local wolf shifter pack because of his part in rescuing several pack members from harm in book one. Drake struggles with adapting to his new life, but stays motivated in the knowledge that he has found his mate. To make matters even more complicated Drake’s long lost family returns to bring him home.
This installment is full of humor, action, intrigues, as well as a great love story! Can’t wait to read the next book! I recommend you read the first book in order to appreciate Drake’s tough journey.

Amazing book in the new Darkness Series! Drake and Veronica's story starts out like many, but Katie has added a bit more mystery to the series - I pride myself on being able to figure out "who done it" rather quickly in a book - but she had me guessing... then guessing wrong!!! Was a great surprise! Love all the characters and their strengths and learning the histories is very exciting. I am seeing the opportunity for many new stories - (will be starting #3 this am!!) - This adventure has to continue!!!!

Betrayed by someone unknown, left in Hell by the age of twelve, Drake had an agonizing start to life as Dragon. Now out in the world, he can't resist the temptation of the wolf shifter Victoria, even if he feels that he's undeserving and not worthy.
Victoria was the first to find him when he got out of Hell, and she's got the need of more with this dragon. Could they make it work?
At the same time, Drake needs to regain his lost memories, someone betrayed him and needs to pay, and what is that strange Dragon circling their home?
Wolf shifters, Dragons, suspense and smutty fluff in an awesome combo that I've come to expect from Katie Reus. Always a great read!

I absolutely loved the 1st book in the Darkness series but I do believe Katie Reus has delivered an even better story with Taste of Darkness. Drake, a dragon shifter whom can't remember his past is the hero of this story. He is paired with Victoria, a wolf shifter that happens to be a healer. No story is complete without a bad guy- and this one has a doozy. I loved how Drake and Victoria come together and discover strengths and talents they didn't know they had. The additional members of this story are just as interesting to follow. I can NOT wait to see how this series plays out with each character getting the spotlight (demon, dragon, wolf- any and all will be welcome).

This is the second book in the darkness series. They were introduced in the first book and now Drake and Victoria will take you on a roller coaster ride. Drake thinks he's the only Dragon shifter, what will happen when he meets more? Will a wolf and a dragon shifter fall in love? Will they be together or get pulled apart by others? It also introduces quite a few new characters that we will hopefully be meeting again VERY soon!!!
I have anxiously been waiting for this book and it was good as I expected. I love shifters and this has quickly become my favorite series! I love the fact that this series has different shifters and vamps all in one!

This is the second book in this new paranormal series by Ms Reus and follows on from Darkness Awakened . As Darkness Awakened finished we met Drake a dragon shifter who had been trapped in hell for more than a thousand years. He has no memory of how or indeed why he was sacrificed and sent there but of one thing he's certain the beautiful wolf shifter Victoria smells like home ! Her scent leaves him in no doubt that she is meant to be his mate and luckily her pack have offered him a home but not everyone trusts him. Drake will do anything to win the heart of Victoria but feels he is unworthy as he has nothing of his own to offer her. Each day Drake watches the lovely healer Victoria and bides his time but woe betide anyone who comes between them. Drake is determined to prove he is able to both protect and provide for the woman that will complete him but as the only dragon how can he ?
Dragons have not been seen for centuries and had been believed to be extinct by many . So it's a huge surprise to all when another dragon is spotted over the compound where the wolves and Drake live. Then two more reveal themselves claiming that Drake is part of their Clan but Drakes memories are hazy at best and he has no true recollection of these two newcomers. Determined to get to the bottom of what's really happening Drake and Victoria go searching for answers but as their connection and relationship deepens Drakes past is stalking him. He may have escaped hell once but if danger takes Victoria away from him then hell is right here on earth!
This is just such an amazing new series that the author has written. There are so many diverse characters to interest the reader and you can easily see that there are a lot of romantic possibilities for Ms Reus to further explore. This book may feature the sweet Drake and stubborn Victoria but the supporting characters are not just thrown in no they each have a story to tell and it's a tantalising read. Drake is not the typical alpha male dragon that so many authors give us . He is not arrogant and full of bluster , no he is caring, a little naive and very innocent but he really wants to give Victoria everything that he feels she needs. Victoria on the other hand is a loyal young woman who allows her pack to protect her as she understands the wolves mentality but she is constantly left feeling stifled and wishes for more freedom. Two truly likeable characters that deserve a happy ending but it's a hard journey for them both with steep learning curves especially for Drake. He is in a vulnerable position but as the story progresses his character grows and it's wonderful to see him able to rise above his past and find his place. I particularly liked the way he hesitantly expresses himself but as he has been in hell since he was twelve years old it's not surprising and as his confidence grows so to does the romance. It's no instant lust but when the couple finally do mate it feels right.
So there's lots going on and I'm sure much more to come. Dragons are back in the world but demons are still trying to escape hell. This book only touched briefly on the vampires that exist in this world the author has created but I'm sure much more will be revealed in subsequent books. It's well worth reading the previous book if you have missed it and a great read for fans if paranormal romance .

This is the second book of the Darkness Series, and it's fantastic. I got an ARC from the author, and I read this book while on vacation. It was a great read. Drake seems so lifelike with flaws and a deep history. He is a dragon shifter who watched over and protects Victoria and her pack. The characters are believable, the romance is sweet, and the plot interested me.

I really enjoy paranormal romance especially when they have shifters as the main characters. And let me tell you Drake as a dragon shifter is one of the coolest and sexiest main characters I have read about in a long time. The interaction between him and Victoria is dynamic. You would think with all of the positive reviews that I couldn't go wrong purchasing this book. But.........you would be wrong. It was a good idea for a story that was very poorly executed. Way too many immature insecurities in the Hero and the Heroine. Clunky and hard to read. Absolutely no world building. Not worth the money.

Victoria was Drake's guiding light through the darkness......He had no memories of his past only the he!! he went trough before he escaped the gates of he!!.

Drake knew that Victoria was going to be his before he saved her in New Orleans, the latter and the former became close and when Drake's siblings came looking for him ....It sends Victoria and Drake on a quest to find out about his past, together. Along with some allies and families, Drake and Victoria bring down the person who was responsible for causing Drake and his loved ones so much misery.

Love how protective they all are of each other.....The supernatural, the romance and the suspense was well executed by Katie Reus.......Looking forward to the next novel in this amazing series.

My Review:
Overall: 4.5
Performance: 4.75
Story: 4.25

Drake's story is just one of those that's perfect for a hero that you absolutely fall head over heels in love with. Sent to hell at the age of 12, he's spent the last 1500 years there. He knows virtually nothing of the world or dragon shifters (which he is one of). He has no memory of how he got there or what happened before being sent there. It's obvious he's been traumatized by the time spent there...did you catch that...1500 years?!?!?

So, yeah, he's a little bit messed up. But from the moment he sees Victoria, he knows that she's his. It doesn't matter that she's a wolf shifter. He's connected to her.

But the best thing about Drake is that he's this vulnerable, wounded guy at the same time he's seriously tough and alpha and so much...just sexy male. Yum! I loved him and watching him love Victoria...yeah, it just made me happy.

I'm really loving this series and love that there's so many books of it out. I need to go grab book #3 now and download it onto my iPod because I adore Katie Reus's shifters. She writes some sexy shifters and I'm quickly falling in love with all of them.

BTW, you can read any of these books as stand-alones.
