Ash is a prisoner for years who is finally beaten to death, thrown into a mass grave with lye thrown on him. Lorelai is the daughter of a duke, riding along in a carriage when she sees a nude man, crawling in the mud. She insists they stop the carriage and, take the man back to the castle. She nurses him back to health, becoming his only light in the dark because, he has no memory of his former life. The two fall in love but, her brother takes him away to a meeting then, Ash disappears.
A man, known only as THE ROOK, returns 20 years later outside of Lorelai's wedding, kills her brother and fiance, then kidnaps her and her sister-in-law.
Lorelai realizes that The Rook is her Ash, only much harsher and, a cruel man,
This man has lived through hell for decades, only to remember the one woman he could never forget. This woman finds her love again, only to realize that, even though he has changed dramatically, he is still and, will always be her one true love..
I used to find historical romances boring and wimpy. This is not only the best I have read this year, it pulled me through every emotion in my heart! I felt like I was being yanked through the middle of a hurricane so, I held on for the ride!
If I could give this book a 10, I would!

I received The Duke with the Dragon Tattoo written by Kerrigan Bryne from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. This is the last in her Victorian Rebels series and while it CAN be read as a standalone, I HIGHLY encourage you to read the entire series and at the very least the first book.
Lorelai finds a strange dying on the side of the road and nurses him back to health when she is a child. With no memory, she names and Ash. Just at they come to terms of budding romance, Ash is whisk away, never to be seen from again. Twenty years later, just as Lorelai is supposed to marry a cruel man, she is kidnapped by the man she named Ash. Ash however, has transformed into The Rook, a feared pirate that takes what he wants. Can Lorelai reclaim Ash and more importantly, does the Rook want to be claimed?
A wonderful ending to a wonderful series!! The feels just kept coming. The lost of hope and salvation only to find redemption again. This was a fitting end to a wonderful series.
Kerrigan Bryne does a wonderful job with slow burn romances as well as making you fall in love with the "bad guy" I typically do not like the "bad boy" tropes but this book (whole series really) was a wonderful exception. #TheDukeWiththeDragonTattoo #NetGalley

My Thoughts on The Duke With The Dragon Tattoo:

This is book number six of the Victorian Rebels Series. This story is much of what I have come to expect from Kerrigan Byrne. This entire series has been one of gritty, violent and intense romance.

Lorelai is a woman with a past that haunts her. She is not the perfect' untouched by tragedy heroine of most romance novels.
Known as the Rook this hauntingly handsome man has no past that he remembers. He only knows his present which includes this beautiful stranger who healed him.
How will his return to her life affect Lorelai? Can she trust this man who has been branded a killer, a rebel and a thief? And can she trust herself to resist him when she finds herself in his arms?
I gave this book 4.7 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization. This angsty, somewhat violent story is another of Byrne's books that is not to be missed.
I find myself totally engaged when reading the books in this series, this one not withstanding.
I received a complimentary digital ARC of this title from the publisher via NetGalley to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily. All thoughts and impressions are my own.

Lorelei will never forget the night she rescued the broken dark angel in the woods, a devilishly handsome man who haunts her dreams to this day. Crippled as a child, she devoted herself to healing the poor tortured man. And when he left, he took a piece of her heart with him. Now, after all these years, The Rook has returned. Like a phantom, he sweeps back into her life and avenges those who wronged her. But can she trust a man who’s been branded a rebel, a thief, and a killer? And can she trust herself to resist him when he takes her in his arms?
This story starts at the beginning of the Rook’s tragic life. The reader is given the pieces to the Rook’s life that is taken from him. The entire story, as it unravels, is really about all of the horrors the Rook has went through and what he goes through to get back to the angel that saved him early on. My one complaint is that it seemed like the author had to find every possible bad thing that could happen to the Rook and make it happen, not to mention the crappy life that Lorelei had. This has happened in other books that I’ve read by this author and it tends to bring down the books just a little for me.

Books in Kerrigan Byrne's Victorian Rebels series deliver intensely emotional connections between her lead characters --darkly troubled anti-hero types and the women who see the loyal men inside. Lorelei and Ash fit this mold but are so much more than cookie cutter characters. Lorelei's kindness and compassion for wounded creatures gives evidence to her inner strength. Ash's determination to one day return to Lorelei reveals a level of devotion/obsession that is unusual in the typical ruthless killer. And I love them because their lives and love story are anything but typical.
The suspense elements of the story are wonderfully crafted to build Ash and Lorelei into a team outside the romantic elements. They give secondary characters an opportunity to shine and show their place in this story universe, this moving the plot forward and laying the groundwork for future volumes. I enjoy characters whose lives become entwined with those featured in other books in a series. I hope there are more Victorian Rebels to populate future volumes.

The Duke with the Dragon Tattoo was my first book from Kerrigan Byrne, and if you can get past the kitschy name, there is a really lovely story inside.

I have a thing for disabled characters in romance, and I liked caring, sweet Lorelei who suffered and survived for years under the hands of her abusive brother. I loved that Ash saw past a girl with a crippled ankle and saw her complete inner and outer beauty.

Though Ash was a cold and remote character, he completely stole the show for me. I enjoyed Lorelei, but I loved Ash, and my heart ached for him. I liked his obsessive, dark nature (yeah, I know, it was a little much but I still loved it), and his willingness to fight and kill to be with the only person he's ever loved.

The plot was brilliantly conceived, and I could hardly put the book down. I kept wanting to know what would happen next, and I loved the dark, piratey, action-packed vibe.

All-in-all, this was a very satisfying second-chance romance, and as this was my first Kerrigan Byrne, it made me want to go back and read every other story in the series.

I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley but all opinions included are my own.

Kerrigan Byrne has mastered the delicate balance of heavy emotion and Happily Ever After: her characters feel so much, and though there is so much stacked against them and so much that they’ve done wrong—specifically talking here about her male leads in her Victorian Rebels series—they yearn deeply. You see them living in the dark and thinking that’s all they deserve, but throughout her books they move into the light, and it’s a beautiful and hopeful thing.

Her latest release, The Duke with the Dragon Tattoo, continues in this marvelous tradition. Lorelai Weatherstoke, who has a limp from a broken foot that didn’t heal properly, is drawn toward helping the wounded. She nurses a young man who has amnesia and doesn’t remember anything of his past, and she names him Ash. We know that he was a prison inmate—one of the Blackheart Brothers—who was mistakenly attacked in his prison cell, burned with lye, and then left for dead.

Ash thinks that Lorelai is angelic, and Lorelai is drawn to Ash in a way that she’s never been drawn to anyone before. They’re both young when we first meet them—Lorelai is only fourteen—and the beginning of their love story is sweet and tender, full of promise. But then Ash leaves for a short trip with her brother, Mortimer, and never returns.

Flash forward twenty years to Lorelai’s wedding day, when the infamous and terrifying pirate the Rook comes to steal Lorelai and take her and her sister-in-law aboard his ship. To her great shock, Lorelai realizes that The Rook is Ash…but not. The Rook tells her that the man she knew as Ash is dead.

What happened to Ash and can she bring him back? Can she make the Rook feel again?

Rich and bold, The Duke with the Dragon Tattoo is another sumptuous entry into the Victorian Rebels series. Byrne writes beautifully and she takes the reader on an inimitable journey that’s surprisingly full of hope, even though there’s so much pain along the way.

THE DUKE WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO by Kerrigan Byrne is book Six in the Victorian Rebels series. This is the story of Lorelai and 'Ash'. I have read the other books in this series (and loved them!!) but feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Lorelai is about 14 years old when her abusive brother and father happen upon a half dead boy (around 17 years old) who Lorelai gets them to rescue him. Lorelai grows to care deeply for Ash and sees him as a light into her dark world. Ash too has come from a very dark place where his tormentors had meant for him to die. But hearing Lorelai beg him to live reopened his dead heart to her and lived for her. But he had to leave and vowed to himself to come for her...but time pasted and now its about 20 years later. Lorelai abuse has gotten worse and has taken on a new level but someone saves her in the nick of time...which turns out to be a harden..older version of Ash.
I am not sure what words I can say that would tell you how much I love this series and this author. Ms. Byrne books take you through a endless row of emotions and you connect with the character very strongly.

In keeping with the theme of this series, The Duke with the Dragon Tattoo features a hero and/or heroine who are "damaged." The h in this story was abused by an evil brother, but she remained kind and sweet; however, the H is seemingly beyond saving with all that he has experienced and the horrible things he has survived. There is an underlying "Florence Nightingale" theme that connects the two as the young teen-aged h "saves" the not-quite-a-man H when she discovered him brutalized, left for dead, and with no memories of how he came to be there or what happened to him other than a mysterious dragon tattoo. Enter the evil brother again who separates the two via deceit, and it is 20 years until the H finds his way back to the "light" and the lady he credits with not only saving him but giving him a reason to live.

I enjoyed this book, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys some mystery, intrigue, angst, and steamy goodness in their historical romances as Byrne delivers on all counts!

I received an advanced copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

Swoon worthy and romantic with a dash of emotion and excitement!

I went in not knowing what this book was about. It was a Kerrigan Byrne story and that’s all that mattered to me. But as soon as I finished the prologue I had a feeling that this was going to suck me in. And by the end of chapter one, I knew I was right.

I love the secret that is the Rook. And the epicness of a 20 year longing has my heart all squishy. My gosh! I can’t even imagine how that felt! Theirs was a romance that was meant to be. Lorelei has suffered for so long and I was so happy to see that she finally found someone to really care for her and keep her safe.

This series is one of my favorites and seeing a few past characters makes this book even more amazing. This series has a way of turning even the most notorious villains into heroes. Who would’ve thought I’d fall in love with so many of them. I won’t say anymore except that if you’re looking for a series that brings out all the feels and makes you appreciate the anti-hero, then this is the series for you.

Now I wanna reread them all.

Intriguing, engaging, and with plenty of surprises, Kerrigan Bryne provides a compelling tale of the mysterious and dangerous Rook and his beloved Lorelei. The Rook is a hard, uncompromising man who has been greatly shaped by his experiences. He's largely apathetic and he had to chart his own unconventional path. Lorelei is a sweet, kind, nurturing soul who spends her time finding and caring for her menagerie of wounded animals. Her life changed when she and her family took in the Rook all those years ago and nursed him back to health. She's never forgotten her first love, and she's all the more surprised to see him again after so much time and so changed. He's no longer the boy she once knew and their interactions are so different. Lorelei finds a new side of herself when faced with her pirate king that she's afraid of, yearns for, and is helplessly drawn to. They fight themselves, and each other, as they have to come to terms with their past, present, and differing ideas of a future. Kerrigan Bryne crafted a well-paced story and provided many surprises along with way along with great chemistry.

I absolutely adored the story!

Lorelei finds a man near death and nurses him back to health. During his recovery she falls in love with him. When he leaves, he promises to come back for her. 20 yrs later, he has kept his promise, but the man that returns is not the man that left 20 yrs ago. He is now, The Rook.

Having lost his memory all those years ago, The Rook, must struggle to survive. He has done some terrible things and knows that Lorelei is better off without him. He has been satisfied with just watching over her until she is to be forced into a marriage by her brother.

She finally has the man of her dreams back, but the man she remembers is no longer there. Can seh find her way back to the man she fell in love with all those year ago.

Byrne does it again with this book. I just couldn't put it down. This whole series has kept me riveted and this addition was no different. With such deep and dark characters, it's hard to not fall in love with them!! It looks like there is at least one more book in this series and I can't wait to read it!!

This book was, in my opinion, not your typical historical romance/pirate story. I loved the strength of these characters...both Ash and Lorelai. The story begins with Ash in jail, beaten almost to death, and found along the side of the road by Lorelai and her family. So begins her time of healing him...both physically and emotionally...even though he has no knowledge of his past. They are soon tragically parted and the story resumes twenty years later as Ash returns for Lorelai. He is now a well-known pirate, greatly feared by all who encounter him. He is fiercely protective of Lorelai and has come to claim her as his own. So begins their journey back to each other. I found this story to be romantic, engaging and loved the many layers to the main characters in this story. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a great romantic historical novel—that even includes a pirate! (I was given a copy of this book for my honest opinion. I loved this story and plan to buy more books by this author—I'm looking forward to reading Veronica's story!)

EVERYTHING about this book is amazing.

The Rook is one of those Historical Hot Heroes who ignites the page, making you wish you were there in your corset and undergarments and Victorian finery, all flushed and ready to be ravaged.

Lorelai is a heroine who immediately grabs your heart and makes you wish you were there to be her best friend and show her unconditional love and support.

The friendship and romance between The Rook and Lorelai are beautiful and lusty. When he promises that he will always come for her? YOU WILL SWOON.

The action scenes make you feel like you are there with these people, escaping this, thwarting that, overcoming all the things.

The mystery keeps you riveted: who is The Rook? What is his true relationship with some of the supporting cast?

And then - AND THEN, dear readers - there are the sexy times, which are delightful and delicious and deliver the quiver.

I can't believe it took me so long to discover Kerrigan Byrne. But I'm never letting go. Never.

The Duke With the Dragon Tattoo features a dark, dangerous pirate and the innocent that holds his heart. Broken herself and left with a permanent limp, Lorelei rescues anything in need from orphaned animals to lost dark souls. Fourteen year old Lorelei finds Ash under an ash tree, burned with lye and barely alive. Her family falls to her pleas and brings the injured stranger home for her to nurse back to health. Ash does not remember who he is but knows he is ruthless with blood on his hands. Still he finds love and a sense of home with Lorelei until betrayal steals him from her side. Since the sun stills sets in the west, Ash fulfills his promise to always come for her even across twenty years and many oceans. With a little murder and kidnapping to halt her forced but pending nuptials, Ash spirits her away to his pirate ship for some nuptials of their own. Lorelei finds the new Ash hard, broken, and cold. Now the battle is on to find Ash's heart in a fast paced and often violent tale where family is not always blood and treasure is not always gold or precious stones. The story feeds the reformed bad boy images we all love and ends with a sweet HEA that is both sexy and happiness inducing. My voluntary, unbiased review is base upon a review copy from Netgalley.

This story makes me realize why I love historical romances and can never read enough. There are not enough adjectives to describe this wonderful book. The author has created a brilliant and intriguing storyline with in depth characters that take you on a journey like no other. It shows how an incident when young can change your life and those of others.
Lorelai Weatherstoke found a man by the side of the road almost dead. With no memory of who he is or what happened to him, she gives him the name Ash. Not having much of a will to live with his severe injuries, Lorelai was his encouragement to get well. He knew one day he would come back for her. Both of them had lived through terrible times in their life and really connected.
But life and fate gets in the way and it is not until many years later that they meet again. He has again gone through terrible times and the only thing he can hold onto is his Lorelai.
So much emotion and angst in this story that had many twist and turns and it held me captive until the end. This is truly one of the best books I have read this year and know I will be thinking about it for awhile. I read this through NetGallery

I have no words to express how PHENOMENAL this was! You can’t help but fall in love with Rook/Ash he’s the absolute broken hero that had one purpose to his survival and that’s to get to the only person he loves.
Evil forces took him away from Lorelei the young girl that helps him heal after being so cruelly tortured and left for dead.
Lorelei helps heal broken and injured animals and for her Rook/Ash is someone that has an instant conection with her. He makes her a promise that he’ll come to her no matter how long it takes. And he keeps his promise just in the nick of time, her sadistic brother is forcing her to wed!

This is a book that one should only read without any interruptions, it’s a heart wrenching angst filled story that captivates the reader from the very first page!
It’s smoldering HOT full of sizzling passion. Intriguing and plenty of action. This will not disappoint, Kerrigan Byrne has absolutely hit the pot of gold with the whole series! I recommend 100%!

Book Hangover Commence. I love this book so much and I'm so sad I finished reading. oooo it is good.

I love Kerrigan Byrne and I was so excited to read the story about The Rook whom loomed very large in the other stories. If you haven't read her books then you must start with The Highwayman. TDWTDT is a masterpiece and culminates the entire series very nicely.... though you could spoil all the surprises for yourself and read this one first...

I won't spoil big plot points for you... Lorelai finds a young man almost dead by the side of the road. She convinces her family to rescue him and nurse him bag to health. He remembers nothing of his past. A love grows between them and her wicked brother comes between them. The rest of the book picks up twenty years later. The Rook is an infamous pirate king.... so in this book you will find pirate adventures, a treasure hunt, vengeance, reunions, deep passion and some sexy sometimes.

There is so much to love in these characters. Lorelai is a brilliant, kind woman who has suffered trauma for most of her life (caused by wicked brother) and has a love for animals. Her ankle was broken as a child and never healed properly. The Rook is so deeply wounded and so passionate at the same time.... hero with inner darkness alert. Veronica is a lovely secondary character (Lorelai's sister in law) and has her own journey we see glimpses of in the book (like the very erotic voyeur scene!). Loved the pirates and seeing my favorite couple from the series pop back in.

An intense ride with the Rook and Lorelei that takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions. I love these angst-filled heroes and heroines. The storytelling is great, the characters are unbelievably well written, and the love story is out of this world fantastic. Can the Rook and Lorelei actually find an HEA? In reading their story it is hard to find a way around the Rook’s demons and you are just not sure. But I love how Lorelei helps him overcome his demons and loves him for who he is, not some fantasy hero. A love to last a lifetime. I could have read more of their story (even though this is a full length book) just because I loved how the Rook and Lorelei interacted.

I knew there was something with Carlton Morley…read it and find out. Moncreiff? Veronica?

Lorelai finds Rook when she is traveling with her family and she ends up nursing him back to health. They become good friends during that time but Rook is somewhat dangerous and disappears one day. Lorelai and her family have no idea where he went and move on with their lives. Now years later they run into each other again and see the differences however Lorelai continues to look for the boy she fell for within the hard man before her. Rook has good memories of Lorelai from their time together and doesn't want to tarnish their time together. Will Rook claim Lorelai for his own despite their differences?

This is a great story that will grab your attention from the first page. The chemistry between Lorelai and Rook is sensually sweet. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Great love story. I love second chance romance especially when the separation isn't the H/h's doing. Lorelai found Ash half dead and nursed him back to health. However, she could do nothing for his amnesia. But young love develops and is quickly crushed by Lorelai's cruel older brother.

Twenty years later Ash is no longer. He's now known as The Rook, a ruthless pirate. But he's never forgotten the promise he made to Lorelai. And when he returns for her he's not the sweet boy she used to know. Can she develop feelings for this hardened man?

I really liked this book. I liked the connection to The Highwayman. Lots of new revelations. That's really the only book I would suggest you need to read prior to this one. Otherwise, it's a stand alone. Looking forward to more. Well done.

This book. Wow. Every time I read one of Kerrigan Byrne's books I think it can't be as good as the others, and every time, they blow me away. Lorelai and the Rook's story was emotional, intense and so, so, so good. Bonds, brotherhood, loss and love interweave into a story so compelling, I devoured it as fast as I could, and felt a loss as I finished and closed the cover. The Rook is everything I thought he'd be, and so achingly intense it almost hurts. We meet him in his youth and see how his history begins. We ache for what he endures, and swoon at his haunting, brooding assurance that he will always come for his light. We meet Lorelai and quickly see though tender and healing, she is strong too, with an elemental strength of soul that shines through everything she endures. Locations are vividly crafted to come to life and situations so intense you feel as if you've passed through an emotional hurricane. There are sentiments in this story that resonate with you long after the book is brought to it's somewhat surprising but ultimately satisfying ending. I won't spoil any of the story here, but it is well worth the read and will become a well worn and loved addition to my shelf. Well done Kerrigan Byrne, well done!!!!!

Once again in this fabulous series we are treated to a deadly, dark protagonist and the woman who is willing to go to the ends of the earth to save him. It must be true love because he has abandoned her for 20 years and has become a pirate who is feared. But she knows the boy she rescued is not this demon that has come for her.

Kerrigan Byrne can make us sympathize with even the most evil of heroes as she has shown in other books in this series and here again we have a hero who is hard to like. But Lorelai remembers him when he was recovering and how she fell in love with him. There is fine characterization here and a some heart stopping moments as well as redemption of a very bad man. The chemistry is well off the charts.

This story is a perfect addition to the Victorian Rebels collection. You don't have to have read the previous books but once you meet some of the characters from them you'll want to go back and check them out as well.
My one complaint about this book is the title. To call the main character a Duke is pushing it a bit. He's a prisoner and a pirate and eventually an Earl but the Dukedom is a title bought with violence.
The two main characters are about as opposite as they could get yet there is something that draws them together and holds them even after a 20 year separation. His violent lifestyle is no match for her gentle caring.
The pain and suffering they go through only help to make the Happily Ever After that much happier.

This was an interesting story and for the most part well written. The characters are well drawn, and we easily identify with their issues. Sadly, this is at most 3.5 stars because the prolonged sex scenes became boring. There was unnecessary use of the F word. We are told, not shown, that “he f---ed her into oblivion.” Supposedly he was making love to her, I think a more romantic word would have worked better. This is not the only time the F word was used gratuitously. It is the same as using too many adverbs. There is a better way to do it. If you are not bored by told how and how often the hero had intercourse with the heroine, you may well enjoy this book. I voluntarily chose to read and review an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is the sixth in the Victorian Rebel series by Kerrigan Byrne. TBH, I fell in love with this series from book one! In this book, The Rook and Lorelei first meet when she saves his life. They truly fall in love, but circumstances and villains tear them apart. Fast forward twenty years and they meet up again, but the Rook has no memory of his past.
I love how Kerrigan weaves the lives and histories of these characters together. I love the heartbreak and renewal of their love. I love how she brings the story with the past books in the series together. The books in the series are stand alones, but become so much richer when read in order.
As long as KB keeps writing, I will keep reading!

A great story with non-stop action and adventure, it’s different than the usual formula of historical romance. I liked the way the story began 20 years prior to set the scene of the love shared and lost, then after much adversity and growth, is found again in a richer, more mature way. Not a typical romance in that it has descriptions of violence and brutality, but they actually add to the story by showing the adversity both the Hero and Heroine have been through, yet with each other, come out the other side stronger in their love. In this way, Lorelei and Ash/Rook are allowed to grow and develop, which really strengthens their characters. I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. This is my freely given, honest review.

I have been looking forward to this book for so long and it did not disappoint. I love Kerrigan Byrne's writing. She makes me feel so invested in the story and the characters. She makes me want to know what made someone the way they are. And The Rook is definitely one of those characters that I wanted to know more about. In this book we get to see the back story for him and begin to understand why he is seen as so cold and heartless. And even though I wasn't his biggest fan in the beginning, I felt so bad for his terrible circumstances I started to really root for him to find some happiness.
And Lorelei is my kind of heroine. She has been through the wringer all through her life, but she never let the world make her hard. She continues to show her strength in her kindness and the way she cares for everything around her. She has a beautiful heart and I am so glad she got her happiness too.
I may not be the best at reviews, but I will say I absolutely loved this book and I highly recommend it. It is a wonderful addition to one of my favorite series.

Each new addition to the Victorian Rebels series has left me feeling as though I've received a rare and precious gift. The Duke with the Dragon Tattoo, firmly re-established that belief!

Byrne crafts her characters from faulty molds, fills them with bone and blood, and makes them beautiful in their imperfections. No cookie cutter, heroes or heroines allowed. But it's the hearts and tattered souls that she infuses them with that make them truly unforgettable.

Ash and Lorelei's story is impossible to put down and with the way it is woven within the rich tapestry of the entire series, it makes the idea of waiting for the next Rebels' story to arrive, a joyous kind of torture.

Ms. Byrne has written another great book which is filled with murder, danger, intrigue, and love lost and found. The author did a great.job with the storyline and has great characters. I could not put this book down and was a very quick read for me as it helps my attention.

Ash and Lorelei met when they were young and they developed a tender for each other and then torn apart. When they see each other many years later they find that time did not distinguish those feelings and that they still have those feelings for each other.

This was a very entertaining read and I enjoyed it very much. I received this book for an honest review from Netgalley.

This story had me turning pages furiously from the very beginning. So much pain, darkness, and misery could not stand up to the light of Lorelai's innocence, caring, and persistence. Ash/the Rook was such an empty man, but I loved how he knew from the start that Lorelai belonged to him, was his safety, his reason for living, though he was unable to voice it. Their love changed both of them but for the better. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story and could not put it down. I highly recommend it.

Awesome Victorian, historical romance that grips the reader and has the reader looking forward to learning what the tatoo was all about. Lorelai is a teen when she stumbled across a young man, Ash, who was beaten and burnt. She spent a long time nursing him back to health. Lorelei was abused by her brother. They parted then are brought back together many years later. Lorelei hasn't changed much but Ash is now the pirate Rook. The story take you on a the ups and downs the characters suffer through. Another perfect book by Kerrigan Byrne. I was completely hooked from the very beginning and easily read this in one day. There is so much emotion between The Rook and Lorelai. I loved how different they were, but complimented each other so well. Their connection as children carried on into their adult lives and their reunion was so unexpected, but extremely satisfying. These are two very strong characters who just grew in strength together. I also love how all of these stories weave together and we get to see characters from the earlier books. This is such an emotionally driven read and it gave me all the feels. I can't wait for more!

*5 million stars. Utterly astounding.

Byrne has once more ensnared my soul with this bewitching, knee-buckling, and brilliantly dark love story. From the opening scene where we watch the dragon tattoo inked on our hero/anti-hero, I was spellbound.

The Rook and Lorelai are the most exquisite pairing of beauty and the beast. His dark past threatens to swallow him whole, but the light and benevolence of Lorelai saves him time and time again. Completely captivating, I tried to slow my reading pace and savor it, but it was just too good.

Recommended to all Historical Romance lovers who have a pulse.

This is the sixth book in the historical romance series, and while this one has merits on its own, reading the other books greatly enhances the experience. I have read the others in the series and considered myself fortunate to find this one as well. Lorelai discovers the boy she names Ash beaten almost to death and having crawled out of a mass grave. He has a dragon tattoo and no memory. She nurses him back to health and they fall in love. Her cruel and abusive to the extreme brother Mortimer (there's a name for a bad guy!) causes them to be separated for twenty years. Ash, now known as the infamous pirate Rook comes for her.
This book grabs you from the start and keeps your interest throughout. I always enjoy the author's main characters as they are unique and strong. I received an ARC from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. I would highly recommend this series of books and the author as well!

I loved the plot from the beginning, I was intrigued to see what will happen. There were moments it was emotional. The connection between Lorelei and Ash was amazing! They started being sweet when they were young and when they meet again after years it was full of tension and passion! There were some really hot moments between them!

"Are you wet for me?
"I-I'm..."
"Let me make you slick and slippery,"
"Make...what?"
"Let me make you writhe. And beg.And scream.I will exhaust you with ecstasy. You will come apart in my hands, beneath my mouth."

This series is one of my "drop everything and read" books. I have LOVED this author from the very first book and I will always read whatever she writes (I just wish she wrote faster, lol).

This is the 6th book in the series and yes, I think you do need to read these books in order to really understand all that is going on. There are a LOT of characters to keep up with and so many twists, turn and just heart wrenching things that happen. Kerrigan is GOLD at writing with feelings and emotion. I gobbled this book up in a day and now have a feeling this series may be over and I am sad.

My favorite thing about this author and this series is how she writes with heart, passion and emotion. You truly feel what the characters are feeling and are riding along this story with them. I HIGHLY recommend this series and this book if you want to get swept away in romance!

Lady Lorelai is a young girl, living with her father and sadistic older brother. An unexpected find leads the three to a young man, left naked and nearly dead by the roadside. Lorelai’s family brings him into their home to help him heal, but as he recovers they find he has no memory of his past. Lorelai and the young man, whom she’s given the name “Ash”, formed a strong attachment to each other. The one day, Ash is gone.
Twenty years pass, and Lorelai’s life has not gotten better, but worse. She’s about to be forced into marriage with a terrible brute of a man, when a stranger shows up, and the adventure begins!
This is a terrific story with intrigue, colorful characters, humor, and sizzling heat. I highly recommend this book to readers of historical romance who enjoy hot pirates, danger, and a happy ending.
I read this as an arc on Netgalley which affected my review in no way at all.

The Duke with the Dragon Tattoo by Kerrigan Byrne, the sixth book in her Victorian Rebels series, was an amazing story. This love story between tender-hearted Lorelei and fierce Ash/The Rook is heartbreakingly beautiful. Lorelei, a strong heroine, has suffered tragedy and loss yet is able to find reasons to persevere and take care of others, including her menagerie of rescued animals. Ash's story is incredibly sad and challenging; Lorelei discovered him beaten almost to death after crawling out of a mass grave. The sole reason he survives is because of his love for Lorelei, the one and only person he has ever loved.
Ms. Byrne wrote an emotional love story; that grabs you from the start and keeps your interest throughout. I highly recommend this book to other readers, as well as the entire series.
