This story has a couple major problems. It's barely 200 pages and costs $5.99. Of the many, many kindle books I've bought, this is the first time I felt I got ripped off. Also, there's very little new to this story; feels very much like the author did a lot of borrowing from other books and movies, especially the "The Parent Trap".

Honestly, this might be a short review because I don't have a lot to say about Switched. But what I do have to say is that this was indeed a fun book to read! It was absolutely easy to get lost in this world, I was breezing right through the pages (which is probably why I don't have much to say). I enjoyed reading behind both Ivy and Olivia's point of view, though I do wish we got to know them a little bit more instead of all we saw was what they presented to the outside world.

I wished we got more in depth about the characters and about the fact that Ivy is a vampire. I thought the vampire aspect was going to be more in the open but instead Ivy made sure to hide it from Olivia, so we didn't get to the vampire part of the book till way way later in the book. But these little problems of mine will be fixed in the sequel and we'll be getting more of the characters and more of the vampire world so I'm thrilled to get my hands on the sequel!

Also, I'm really happy that Ivy didn't get easily swept into the popular clique and followed Charlotte like some airhead. Instead she stood up for herself and her sister. I think that was a great positive scene for younger girls. Ivy's character is definitely a model for younger girls as she works hard towards her dream of making the cheerleading squad even though there's a negative force trying to bring her down.

Overall, I think this would be a fun read for Middle schoolers and younger, I'm sure even people older then teenagers will enjoy this light read (I'm turning 23 in 1 1/2 weeks).

Bubbly middle-school cheerleader, Olivia Abbott, is determined to make the best of her family's move to a new town. She starts school and immediately seeks out the cheerleaders to befriend. It seems that the popular girls at this school, however, are not the nicest people in the world. One day, Olivia meets goth girl, Ivy Vega. Ivy is the opposite of Olivia: she wears black clothes and thick eyeliner, and is far from the cheerleading type. As Olivia gets to know Ivy better she makes a startling discovery: Ivy looks a lot like her, in fact, she and Ivy are identical twins! Things get even weirder when Olivia learns that their fashion choices aren't the only thing different between them: Ivy is actually one of many vampires who call Olivia's new town home. Despite their differences, Olivia and Ivy become close, and decide to help each other out, even if they have to switch places from time to time to do it! But can a vampire and a cheerleader really pose as one another without getting noticed?

Switched is the first novel in Mercer's My Sister the Vampire series which has since been followed up by five additional installments, with two more being published in 2011. It is a very interesting and original story, with likeable characters and a believable setting. Ivy and Olivia have a pretty fantastical story, but they deal with issues that are common in middle school: crushes, bullies, peer pressure, and self-confidence. The vampire aspect of the story only adds to the fun. Although this installment of the series does not go into too much detail about exactly how Ivy and Olivia were separated at birth and why Ivy is a vampire but Olivia isn't, Mercer manages to make the reader care enough about her characters to want to find out how they came to be in their situation. A very good start to a popular series for tweens.

I have to admit that I felt pretty silly wanting to run and get the next installment in this fun and interesting series. I think that these books are a wonderful substitute for younger readers who may not be ready to venture into vampire novels like Twilight or The House of Night series. I would highly recommend these to tweens who want something sugary with a dash of gothic.

I read the book My Sister The Vampire: Switched by Sienna Mercer. It was about these identical twins that got separated at birth. Then the two sisters, Ivy and Olivia, meet in Olivia's new middle school. Soon after meeting they switch places, Ivy dressed up like Olivia and Olivia dressed up like Ivy, then they pretended to be each other. I loved it from the beginning, when Ivy and Olivia met and found out that they were twins, through the very end, when Ivy broke the first law of the night "a vampire is never supposed to reveal her true self to an outsider."
I noticed how the author put a lot of funny phrases and cheers in the book I read. Here is one. "I'm whiter than principal Whiteheads head!" I was not surprised when I found out that Ivy was a vampire, because the title said My Sister The Vampire Switch, but when I found out that all of the Goths in Olivia's new school were vampires to I was very, very surprised. I was also surprised when Ivy turned out to be a vampire, but Ivy's identical twin, Olivia, was not a vampire. I enjoyed how Ivy found out she was twins with Olivia. It was neat because there was this gem, and there was only one of it in the whole world, and two people (Olivia and Ivy) had it. It was the only thing they had from their real parents.
My Sister The Vampire is a growing series, it has two books out so far, My Sister The Vampire Switched and My Sister The Vampire Vampalicious, which I plan to read soon.

I expected more from the My Sister the Vampire series, especially since my friends all seem to like them. So I decided to give the first book a try. At first, it seemed very good, but then she starts seeing all these GOTHS. And I, being in the targeted age group, didn't like that very much. In fact, even though one of the two main characters was a Goth, I think there was too much emphasis put on the Gothic ways. Plus there was a lot of crushing and thinking about boys and dates. Over all, it was....OKAY. But I don't REALLY recommend to girls in the age range of 8-12.

I really enjoyed this book. I finished it in less then a day. This book is about Oliva Abbot who moved because of her father's job. There she meets Ivy (who is my favorite character) who is very goth. Later they find out that they are twin sisters and start switching and pretending to be who they are not really. Then Ivy tells Oliva her biggest secret. Also Olvia gives Ivy advice on her crush,Brendan and Oliva encounters a girl name Charlotte who seems nice at first but is not really. I read Re-Vamped and Vampiloucious (i think) and I would have to say that those were better then this one because it had a lot more action and excitement. Also I think it was hard for me to read this since I read the 3rd and 4th and already knew who were their enemies and all. But otherwise I really liked this book. :)

My ten year old niece introduced this series to my nine year old daughter but I decided to read the books just to make sure they were age appropriate. Not only did my nine year old like the series, but I found it entertaining as well. Brought me back to the fun times of Junior High (even though there were no vampires in my school ;p)......I highly recommend the series as I found it to be well written and enjoyable. The three of us are anxiously awaiting the fifth book in the series.
