I listened to this book as an audiobook, unabridged, and while the narrator did a credible job reading it, the story itself was absolutely terrible. *** Spoilers ahead *** Perhaps my impression could be in part due to the format-- I could not skip over the many bits of endlessly drawn out, cliche-ridden dialogue, the unbelievable story (frostbite anyone?), the continuity errors (how may pairs of handcuffs can a pajama-wearing lady have anyway??), and the improbable flip-flopping of motivations and character traits in our main heroine. I live in Canada and I know cold, and what it can do in the space of minutes, so all that traipsing around virtually barefoot with wet, "barely there" clothes... yeah right. Nothing like a good pair of socks to suddenly make you feel "warm"-- were they electric socks or something? I am generally pretty forgiving for these sorts of "light" thrillers, but this one... ugh. I stuck with it because after several hours of listening to the story on my daily commute, I needed closure. But those were painful hours indeed, almost comically so as my fellow commuters no doubt wondered about my head shaking and sighs of disgust. Do not recommend.

SLEEPWALKER by Karen Robards is an exciting contemporary romantic suspense thriller. Micayla "Mick" Lange,a Detroit cop,who witnessed the horrific murder of her mother, she is a sleepwalker, and a recent breakup. Jason Davis, a thief, who Mick catches in the act of stealing from a safe she is house sitting. Together, they must learn to trust each other, fight their attraction, survive a killer, run for their lives. While natural adversaries can they become partners in crime in order to survive their track through the dangerous Michigan wilderness and best enemies lurking around in order to end both of their lives. A fast paced, action filled story full of adventure, suspense, romance and characters that can steal your heart with some twists, turns and a chance for second chances. A great thriller with a silver lining. When a female cop and a professional thief/crook cross paths anything could happen and does. Received for an honest review from the publisher. Pretty disappointing. The action in the first part of the book moves really slowly and then all of a sudden, the main characters are in love and it's over. I realized at the end of the book that it covered about four days, max. SPOILERS: Of course Jason used to be an FBI agent- now he's a "good guy." Of course he still has connections- none of which he see. They bring in a ton of secondary characters but don't allow the reader any chance to connect with them. We suddenly meet her family and his family but it just falls flat. I fel like it was very rushed. DO NOT BUY!!

While her family friend "Uncle" Nicco Marino is away, Detroit police detective Micayla "Mick" Lange house-sits his estate on New Year's Eve. A noise awakens her from the nightmare of her mom's murder. Mick investigates the sounds coming from Nicco's office. With her gun in hand, she catches Jason Davis, who thought the house was vacant for the holidays.

Mick sees the incriminating photos of the murders of Edward Lightfoot and his family. She realizes that the security cameras have caught her and Davis looking at the pictures. Knowing what that means, Mick and Jason take money from the safe and flee to the state's remote wilderness. Meanwhile Nicco's henchmen led by his security chief pursue them.

This an exhilarating romantic suspense as the lead couple play cat and mouse against a diabolical deadly criminal and his horde. Fast-paced throughout, the protagonists fall in love while on the lam, but they have no time for a respite as the enemy keeps on coming. Although why Nicco would ask anyone, especially a cop even if he loves her family, to baby-sit his house as he has super security who should have been the ones there, fans will appreciate Karen Robards' taut thriller.

I wasn't sure that I would like Sleepwalker because I am not a big fan of books where the main characters are on the run through the book. Boy was I wrong about this one. This book will keep you on your toes with suspense from beginning to end.
Micayla (Mike) Lange is a cop spending New Years at her Uncle Nicco's house, when she wakes up after a nightmare. She is about ready to go back to sleep when she hears an odd noise. When she goes to investigate it, she walks into a crime scene. Jason Davis sees Mike and knows the plan has gone sour. Over the next few minutes, Mike sees pictures that changes her life as she knows it. Forced to make a run for it together, the two are in deep trouble with their lives in danger and not a lot of resources. The trust issue looms large between them which isn't good when you are trying to outrun people who want to kill you.
Ms. Robards does a great job keeping the suspense level high throughout the book. The chemistry between Mike and Jason is hot but in a sense somewhat forbidden. Mike is a cop and an honest one to boot, so the reader wonders how a relationship will work between the two characters. It is a romantic suspense book so you know that a romance will develop. I kept wondering how this was going to be resolved and was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. There are twists and a big red herring before it all ends. I started the book and couldn't stop. A great new book from one of my favorite authors!

*Bestselling author Karen Robards, leaves us with another excellent romantic suspense. It was impossible to put down!.................Not only waking up from a relentless nightmare of her mother's own murder that she witnessed as a child years before, Micayla "Mick" Lange was also jostled from strange noises coming from the first floor of the huge house. Being a police officer and asked by her uncle Nico to housesit while the family left town to celebrate New Years, was the one and only reason why she never hesitated when she grabbed for her glock and quietly sneaked down the stairs to investigate only to see a very large man, wearing a ski mask in her uncle's office with the large safe opened, a safe she never knew existed until now. Jason Davis couldn't believe his luck when this gorgeous petite young woman with her hair in pigtails wearing some flannel sexy pajamas, appeared in the doorway holding a gun on him demanding he stop what he was doing. Didn't she know that Nico hired him to rob the safe? Thinking he could take her because he was taller and heavier than her, Jason was in for a rude awakening when she overtook him with some pretty harsh "ninja" qualities but before either one of them could get any farther, the contents of the safe fell out with not only the money he was trying to steal but with some very damning evidence of pictures of the true murder of a councilman and what really happened to him. When Nico's corrupted security showed up and broke down the door, Jason and Mick knew without a doubt that both their lives were in danger and the only way to survive through the night was for each of them to help the other. As they traveled through one of the worst winters in Michigan with everyone chasing them down, Mick was amazed how Jason looked after her even though she knew someday as being a cop, she would have to turn him in. As much as Jason tried, he knew he was falling hard for the beautiful young Mick but could he ever trust her with his dark and sinister secret? When they can no longer hide their passion for each other, true feelings finally come to the surface and the whole ugly truth. When Mick disappears from the face of the earth, Jason is frantic and forced to delve into his past, a life that he walked away from so many years ago only to call upon some old friends in desperation for their help and pray that he can not only save the woman he loves in the little time he has left but if she can ever forgive him for his past when that time finally does arrive before he can tell her how he truly feels before the night is over no matter what!......thank you♡♡
