I too am a member of Darius Brasher's mailing list, and a great fan of his "Superhero Detective" series. Darius reached out to us and gave me a chance to read "Caped: The Omega Superhero Book One" asking that I review the book.

For those unfamiliar with his work, the "Superhero Detective" takes place in a universe where folks with super powers exist. These "meta-powered" individuals register with the authorities and have to go thru rigorous training to be licensed to use them. Very close to the worlds of the DC and Marvel universes. Good vs evil with a huge dollop of real world consequences to the use of their powers.

"Caped" introduces a new character, Theo Conley, who gains incredible powers at a young age...ala Spider-Man...and as the story progresses we go on a whirlwind ride as Theo learns about his powers and develops the skill to use them.

It's a wonderful story...well written and full of thrills, chills and lots of humor...a Darius Brasher trademark. When reading his work, I always find myself chuckling or laughing out loud at a particular well written piece of dialogue. Without copying material and characters from the DC and Marvel worlds, Brasher has created a new world of superheroes and their extraordinary adventures that captures the excitement and weirdness of the wonderful fiction series "WILD CARDS"! Love it!

This writer is one of my favorite authors and I am really looking forward to reading more about Theo's adventures and this world of superheroes. Jump onboard! You're in for a real treat!

I had a great time reading this book. I live in the south and this character felt like a genuine southern local. So many books and movies get this wrong. Buying the whole series to show my support. Keep up the good work!

I first encountered Mr. Brasher's superhero setting through his Superhero Detective For Hire series. As a result, I joined his mailing list, and was given an opportunity to read an advance review copy of the book in e-format for free.

This latest offering features a different main character, but in the same setting was an enjoyable read, but not without some problems.

The chief problem was that it was a bit too structured, leaving me with a feeling that it was done by the numbers - that the writer had worked out an outline, and was hitting all the points on that outline in sequence.

A second, lesser, flaw was over reliance on certain tropes - which reinforced the first problem.

Not a bad book, and it definitely helps develop the setting, but not up to the quality of the first few books in the Superhero Detective series.

All of which makes it sound like I enjoyed the book less than was actually the case - it was an entertaining light read, and seemed aimed at a younger audience than the earlier series. For a young-adult audience the book would be a very good choice.

A few more twists would have been nice - but I will be keeping an eye open for the next book in the series.

I was worried for a brief moment that the author would focus on the sexuality of youth. A joyful surprise came about as he developed the characters well enough, keeping the cast small enough that it was easy to keep track of all. While it was shorter than I would prefer, I can only hope that this author continues to infuse the universe he has created with more depth, emotional turmoil, and sufficient motivation for character growth.

Typos and grammar mistakes galore. Was this intentionally poorly edited to make it seem as if the writer was actually the MC and a 17 year old? The writer touts himself a lawyer but his writing skills are subpar. Pay someone to edit. I’m sure I’m not the first to pick up on all of the errors.

Being a former reporter/editor for a newspaper I am always a critical reader. In this type of book, young super hero coming of age, you expect a certain measure of standard fare. Even though some of that was in evidence, it was handled with skill and aplomb. The characters were believable and I plan to continue to find out more about each of them. This character doesn't have the noir grit of Truman Lord, I can see him working alongside that character in some future adventure. Well done and keep up the good work.

As a fan of super heroes and comic books it was surprising to find a novel or series. I didn't want stop reading and found a new super hero that I love over all my favorites. Can't wait to read Trials and others.

I truly enjoyed this book. I can't wait to read the other books in this series. It is my opinion that he is acting like an eighteen year old young man would, as I was that age once, a very long time ago.

I, too, am a fan of Mr. Brasher's "Superhero Detective For Hire" series and joined the mailing list after thoroughly enjoying those novels. I will also confess to having a small, ridiculous crush on a literary figure, in the guise of Truman Lord, but that is my burden to bear. As a result of having joined the list, I was afforded the opportunity to read the kindle edition of the 1st installment in Brasher's newest series-for the measly price of an honest review. DEAL!

"Caped" series takes place in the same universe as the previous series; however, in this latest offering, the reader gets an in-depth look at what it means to be a young adult adult just discovering both themselves AND super powers, at the same time. (Bet you thought your transition years were chaotic.)

As Theo, our fledgling superhero, works his way through the challenging ins and outs of herodom (Yes, that IS a word), the reader is given a front row seat to the show. At times poignant, tense, and funny--the journey is well worth following.

In typical Brasher fashion the writing is clever, engaging, and never fails to elicit bouts of laughter from me. I have enjoyed each and every one of Mr. Brasher's books and am, very much, looking forward to the 2nd installment in this new series.

I am a member of Darius Brasher's mailing list, i am a fan of his "Superhero Detective" series and through that i was provided an opportunity to read "Caped: The Omega Superhero Book One" with the proviso that i provide a review of his latest work.

The "Superhero Detective" series introduced us to an interesting take on a universe where folks with super powers exist, these individuals have to register with the authorities and if they want to use said powers they have under go rigorous training and get licensed to use them. This universe has one foot in the fantastic, yet is also grounded in the beleavible and very accessible, closer to the feel of the Marvel Cinematic universe. There are those with powers, some good...some bad...but the world goes on.

"Caped: The Omega Superhero Book One" expands Brasher's universe with the introduction of a new character, Theo Conley, who gains incredible powers and the reader gets to enjoy his exploits as he learns about his powers and develops the skills to potentially become a great hero.

Very well written and full of warmth and humor, Darius Brasher is one of my favorite authors of this new (?) genre of superhero fiction and i look forward to reading more about Theo's adventures and i recommend that you do the same.

Ever heard of Negative Nelly? Well the MC in this book could give her lessons. The MC was so vehemently pessimistic about EVERYTHING in his life that it was not only unbelievable, but killed the story for me. I know that the current fad in fiction is to have "realistic" MCs but this is just too much. A teen that relentlessly without hope would be prime ground for suicide. What was being attempted was that the MC is supposed to be a normal average teen but the writing only focused on the negative aspects of the character instead, thus giving the unrelenting pessimism I noted earlier. The Hero Act of 1945 was a first step and would have been quickly and ruthlessly undermined, undercut and replaced by a more permissive law to allow for use of powers in non-combat activities like oh say farming. Corporations wouldn't have allowed the original act to stand just because it got in the way of them making even more money. There are many other things that make this book worthy of a one star but those are good enough for now. The story has potential but the author needs an editor in a bad way. Not a copy editor that checks for grammar and spelling but a real editor that tells the author where the mistakes in the story are bringing the quality down.

Great book and read. Started the series at the beginning of October and loved it so much that I read books two and three then moved on to the detective series in the same universe which I am about to finish the fourth book. It is a nice and refreshing take on superheroes that makes them more human. You can relate to the issues these heroes are going through because they are very similar topics that every teenager and adult have gone through. If you like Marvel, DC, etc then I definitely recommend reading these books! Can't wait for the fourth Omega book
