Not clear at the beginning what this was about but I'm glad that I stuck with it as this was a tricky and complicated "who dun it". Magdalene was a victim of so many that it was not clear as to who the ultimate culprit was who murdered this vey young pregnant woman -- a good read.

I've had a great time reading this original investigation. The plot is well-built, and the balance is perfect between action, new elements, revelation from the past... The readers are given enough hints to draft their own theories as they go along.
The author's writing is excellent. I particularly like the way she distils everyday life details throughout the novel. The text is very visual without being too descriptive. When they are well chosen, few words are enough to convey an atmosphere. The characters have strong personalities, and Ngaire is a very humane detective, which gives strength to the story.

A very good detective novel, off the beaten tracks.

This novel kept me guessing! This was a great "whodunit" mystery! Each character in the book was well developed and complex. I think the author's next book in the series will be a "must read"! The synopsis given by the author convinced me to read the book, and I was not disappointed. Definitely read this book. Thank you Katherine Hayden for a well thought out murder mystery.

I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book so I could give an honest review. I wasn't certain, at first, if I was going to enjoy this book, but after a few short pages I began to get caught up in the development of the characters. It did keep me wondering almost to the end "who dunnit?".

This story keeps you guessing from the beginning. I love that Ngaire’s experience is interwoven with the mystery of Maggie Lynton’s death. I would like a little more closure about Ngaire and Finlay!

Enjoy the many twists and turns while the Detective Constables uncover the many intrequecies of this who done it story. Each chapter takes them and the reader on a very intriguing and enjoyable read.

This was a nice change from the perky perfect heroines that are normally portrayed in books. This gal is a super woman with real flaws. I enjoyed routing for her and following her progress each step of the way. Great, great, book

Good taut mystery, engaging characters, left me wanting more. Really enjoy being taken to other places and exposed to other cultures. This did not overwhelm with the unfamiliar as do some others from other coutries, making it all the more readable and enjoyable.

I found the setting interesting but because it's somewhere I have never been, I wished there had been more made of it. I also wanted 'more'.More of the background, more depth. But that could just be me. Don't get me wrong, this book is definitely worth reading and I enjoyed it although I honestly did not 'like' the main character. I look forward to reading more from the author who I feel will develop with more novels and hopefully with experience will come the confidence to make more of the plots. Give the journalist more 'airtime' I liked him more than the policewoman!

An excellent read. The author did an amazing job of bringing you inside the head of multiple well developed characters. Way beyond a mere "who done it". I wanted to spend more time with the characters and their lives long after I knew who did the deed. So excited to have found this author. Downloading more of her work now.

I enjoyed this book until the scene toward the end where a derogatory word was used denoting female genitalia. The book did not need that type of language to be good. There were many other ways to write that scene. Other than that it was a book that you wanted to keep reading. I read the book for pleasure.

A provocative title piques the interest. Unfortunately, the 'three deaths' angle isn't played up well enough. The story itself holds the reader, and Ngaire, the POV character, is engaging (if a little unconvincing as a survivor of crime and PTSD sufferer).

Honestly, it could do with more structural editing to foreground the hunt for the truth which lies at the heart of the narrative, but there's real potential here. I look forward to future novels from this author.

I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book, through Reading Deals, so I could give an honest review. The storyline is ok, though does start out as a very interesting mystery. Just too many attempts at twists and turns kind of burned me out.
