I enjoyed the characters in this book and can not wait for the next installment! The mix of magic in the mayhem makes for a excellent story with so many different avenues to explorer as the series progresses.

With a name like Mr Brownstone, I pictured a Sherlock Holmes type character with a tweed suit and a bowler hat. Couldn't have been further from the actual character. James Brownstone is a bounty Hunter who is helping with some of the chaos that has followed with the gate between Oriceran and Earth starting to open. When he's not out taking care of the criminals he's living and breathing (and also eating) barbeque. Whether it's watching cooking shows, reading books on the history of barbeque, or going out to eat it, James Brownstone loves his barbeque. He lives his life ruled by KISS (keep it simple, stupid). But when he meets a teenage girl, his life starts to get complicated. Lots of action and humor I've come to expect from Michael Anderle's novels. And if you love barbeque too, Michael has included some of his fans home made recipes in the back of the book. Another great book, looking forward to the next one.

While this book is set in the Oriceran Universe, it can stand alone. (although you really should grab the other series, they are excellent). I found myself truly enjoying the main character. He is a good guy deep inside, some may have to squint, tilt their heads and look really hard to see it but that's only the people foolish enough to be against him or those he holds dear. This is a fantastic introduction to Mr. Brownstone. Well done Michael Anderle.

I enjoyed it! A new perspective same great characters and the magic of Oriceran. I look forward to the partnership of James and Shay and the coming years for Alison. I know of the family of Drow but I cannot remember which book. Hmmm. Will have to look back after the next 4 books I have waiting for me. Still a fan!

Readers meet Mr. Brownstone who is a bounty hunter loved only by his dog. After meeting a young girl who is blind but can see colors as emotions, our bounty hunter turns into a warrior of vengeance. This new series by Michael Anderle introduces us to new characters in a world where Magic has entered our realm. I truly enjoyed the characters and am headed for book 2 right now! This is not my normal or favorite genre, but after reading his series written under Michael Todd, I have found a new author to follow. Great writing and unique storylines that keep the reader glued to the book.

Read the other reviews. All the current ones have given this book 5 stars. Yes, I did too. If you have read any of Michael Anderle's books you know what to expected. You will find an entertaining story with a great deal of humor and well defined characters wrapped up in a story line that deals with "real" people. Oh, you question a fantasy book with "real" people? Think about what makes a person real, you and me. Yep, MA's characters are like us, however they are generally more exciting than I am. If you like stories with a plot and humor and a great story, do yourself a favor and read this one.

Ive been putting this book off for a while. I wasn't sure it sounded interesting; I had a lot of other reading to do; and I didn't need another series. Dammit.
In a sense this isn't like the author's other books… at least not the story type. We've got the strong, weird central character and it's a male character. That setting is unlike others. But, the writing is "the usual" in that it is hard to put down. That being said, I'm glad I waited so I can go straight into book 2!

It's nice to find a spin-off series by a favorite author that can succeed in a different direction or theme. No hardcore sci-fi or vampires this time, just bounty hunters, magic and bad guys getting what they deserve. I'm sorry about Leeroy however. He didn't deserve what happened. Already grabbed book 2, so that is next on my list to read.

I cannot get enough of Michael Anderle's books! How in the hell he and his co-authors are able to come up with these amazing characters over and over amazes me!! I fell in love with Mr. Brownstone and Shay. Incredible action and fast moving with all the right twists and turns. Can't wait for the next one.

So good! In these adventures of Oriceran the players keep multiplying and it's a very good thing. I really enjoyed this book. It has it all, action, morals, kick ass charatcers and amusing situations. Michael Anderle you've enchanted me once again!

You know, I did read all of your Authors Note. Does that makes me a quirky reader or a normal one (at least among LMNBP fans)
So, I don't need to take out the pitchfork and whip for the next book? What a pity..

I was expecting something along the same lines of this author's other books (and collaborations), but this one was a distinct surprise. As much as I've enjoyed some of his other story lines and characters, after a while some of them can become variations of a theme of snark and familiarity. The oft-time common problem of Familiarity fighting off breeding Contempt. (Don't mistake me, as I'm still reading the others.)
This one, however, struck an entirely different chord. What's the easiest way to describe it?
Well, this first book in the series has reminded me of so many of the things I liked so much about the early Dresden Files books. For Dresden fans, that ought to suffice to say enough.
I may have found a new gritty, tough, simple-but-complex, albeit reluctant hero to replace Harry Dresden, which pleases me quite a lot.
I'm starting this series rather late in the game (10 books available on Kindle), and it's my fervent hope that as I start reading more of them I discover the character has developed into the protagonist strongly hinted at in this first book.
I'm a bit too lazy to figure out how to connect to the author on his homepage, or whatever. However, if I was so inclined to figure out how to contact him ...
I'd congratulate and compliment him on the unexpected birth of a character that, for me, holds out a tantalizing degree of promise to become a character of the sort masterfully brought to life by such story masters as Heinlein, Zelazny and Butcher.
Here's hoping I haven't jinxed things by rating it so well, so early, before buying the second book. ;)

I am on book 11 of this series and it is great. Action+magic+humor. What's not to like?
Anytime you see Michael Anderle's name, alone, by itself, it will be a great book. I don't bother if is he has a co-writer. Tried that (Trader series, ect). The co-writer constantly has the hero's girlfriend punching and slapping him. Got tiresome. But when he writes a series by himself, it will be great reading.
