This was the first one of this new series. I am looking forward to more in the series. It was a very good beginning to the series. I really loved the characters in this. I hope that the next one is as good. Loved the character Hunter! I am hoping that he we'll be in the next installment. Not exactly sure how the story will continue but I can't wait to read the next one. Hope it is soon!

I loved this book! A definite change from the normal dragon story. The hero is soooooo sexy and is well worth all the problems he gave her. I don'the know how she came up with this idea, but it was great. Thanks for a very good and sexy read.

I grabbed this when I saw it free via Pixel of Ink, and am so glad I did! I sat down to start it last night, and suddenly... it was 1 am and I was enabling wi-fi on my Kindle to access the Kindle store to find book two!
I was initially grabbed by the book's premise, and it didn't disappoint. Dragons, reduced to body-swiping spirit creatures, who hide among regular humans... and what happens when one of them breaks the rules and hops into to an already occupied (aka, not dead) human body. Throw in dragon politics, betrayal, intrigue, and tests of friendship and trauma... plus a heroine with nothing to loose... makes for a very gripping story.
I think my favorite scenes were completely internal: conflict between Hunter the dragon and Anaea, who's body he's inhabiting. Their conversations and interactions were what drove me to keep reading long past when I should have gone to bed... even more so than the frantic pacing of the action and events.
I was left a bit disappointed in the wrapping up of the book, as drastic events have unfolded in Anaea's life (trying to minimize any spoiling here) and the aftershocks to her and her human world aren't really mentioned at all. Ramifications of choices made in the last 3/4 of the book are left unanswered as things just... end. Book done. Main issue of cosmic proportions resolved, all the details (which interested me the most) were just ignored. Credits, author info, end book.
Thus... I demand a book 2!

Intriguing story line, excellent heroine and strong masculine lead. Well written, not overdone sexual scenes but still good tension. I would have give 5 stars if the supporting characters would have been more fleshed out-the main characters could have used more rounding too but you do get a good sense of them.

This was a fascinating take on paranormal romance about dragons. At first I was skeptical, but I enjoyed the characters, their world, and the way the main character's were forced to interact. I can't wait to read the second book!

When I stumbled on this book, it was a freebie and boy, am I glad I got it! This is a really good book. The characters are substantial and they pull you into the story and make you care. I try not to spew out summaries in my reviews; you can see that above or from other reviewers. What you want to know is this - is this book worth purchasing now that it's not free? Yes!! I can see this in the book store as a paperback, and it would appeal to me enough from the premise and the cover to impress me to buy it.
So what is it about this book that makes it worth buying? Number one, two, AND three - dragons!! I love dragons. Real dragons, with personalities and good. The concept of dragons being ancient souls that can take over bodies and heal them, living perpetually forever was an excellent storyline. There are intricacies in the story that make it very interesting; details about the court of the dragons and the political unrest bring the world to life. This story is a great reading escape.
I look forward to the next book in this series. Oh, one of the best aspects of this book? Very, very few editing errors! Being a language arts teacher, grammar and editing mistakes scream at me and not being distracted in that manner was nice. I would love to tell the author great job and keep writing!!

This is easy reading book . I was reading it non stop. It does show that not only super cute models can have their "princes on white horse " :) and ordinary ladies do have a chance too. It gives a lot of joy to see how Coil was protecting his lady and how she was ready to sacrifice her life for him !

I read a lot of books and while I enjoy most this one really stands out. The story was so well written the characters came to life. You could feel their emotions and pain. I could see myself standing in the rooms. I couldn't put it down. I cant wait to read the next book in the series

WOW!! What a fantastic hidden gem. I was cruising through selections on my kindle and noticed this first for the awesome cover and then second because its a dragon novel.(So hard to get good dragon shifter romance) CI Black writes a romance that is not to be missed. The story has a beginning that sucks you in with the hero Hunter attempting to talk the heroine Anaese down from jumping off a bridge in a suicide attempt. Hunter is a royal assasin for the dragon spirits. He is attempting to return from a mission when he is betrayed and attacked. Anaes is at the end of her rope. Her determination and will to survive are tremendous but the ongoing battle with her breast cancer now has her weary of the battle.
I found both characters to be so real. Anaes' cancer is in the background but not forgotten by any means as she struggles to figure out the court intrigue and paranormal world she now finds herself immersed in. Hunter is to die for. Such a sweet and strong Alpha who was willing to turn his back on his race to be with Anaes if choices came down to that. The plot of the royal family being betrayed in an attempt to overthrow them was fantastic and very well written. Secondary characters played a key part and had enough of their own personality entwined with the story and main characters without overshadowing. Definitely interested in following this series.
Thanks to the first two reviewers who had me sucked in even more after reading the blurb and their reviews

I have every Dragonlance novel every written I think and know more about Drizzt and company than any human should. Dragons and fantasy are my thing and while I like a little romance, not a great reader of any kind of romance novels. That being said, I saw this as a free read for Kindle and decided, what the heck. Well, what do you know. . .dragons, fighting, romance and a real story. A real and original story. It rocked! Characters are developed and interesting. So much so, I came looking for book two and was so disappointed not to see one. I won't knock the book for the typos, but did find them distracting and a little annoying. Editor should have done a better job on that. I think this story has some really fabulous potential to be something other than the standard fare with the body changing thing. Original and refreshing twist that captivated my attention. C.I. Black, when's book two? Can't wait to see where this goes. . .and what other original ideas you come up with that make your writing stand out.

I can read a thick book in a few hours, then I normally never read any book twice, since I retain it very well. However, this book had me the first time, then a second time, then a third time. There is much more detailed reviews that I liked, so I'll keep it short. This book features one of my favorite types of female characters; the ones who refuse to back down and be the sappy, illogical female. The plot and characters are very in depth for just one book that I want to read the rest. Please give it a try, just like I did. You may be glad that you did.

This is a great read! Someone called it a hidden gem and I could not agree with that person more. One of my favorite paranormal romances is Thea Harrison's Dragon Bound. Other romances with dragons have fallen short. This is a page turner where the characters who do not know each other are on the run. The other great thing about this story is that you really do not see what is coming. I had no idea how it was going to be resolved.
I did think that it ended rather abruptly. I thought another chapter to wind down the story with some explanations would have been been enjoyable. Perhaps I just did not want it to end. I did have questions that I would have liked a little more explanation about how what happened in the end happened.
Overall, really well done especially for a first novel. I really hope that book two is a continuation of this story with the same leads.

I love dragon stories, never thought about a dragon being a spirit. A terrific love story. How he saves her life by taking her body for cover. Going to read the next one. Looking forward for the next book.

This book was amazing. There are 2 reasons I did not give it 5 stars and only provided 1. First is that the ending seemed unfinished. There were items toward the end with Grey and the Handmaiden that were never resolved. I am hoping that this will be settled in the next book because just dropping this part of the story would be a waste. Also I try to reserve a top score on a book for reads like JRR Tolkien LOTR series. Baring the classics, this is one of the best fantasy books I have read in a long time. I love dragons, and the tale of how they were almost wiped off the earth and how they have survived was as good as the love story of Anaea and Hunter. Other than the feeling that something was missing, the climax at the end was a treat as I was not expecting the ending.
Thank you Mrs. Black as I can usually tell the ending by the middle of the book and although I was close, the true ending did hold a bunch of twists and turns for me. I was fully entertained from beginning to end. I am hoping the next book will be out soon!!!

I liked a good portion of the story. I thought the premise of dragons and where they came from was pretty cool. I did have a little trouble understanding all the ins and outs of the race, mages, and sorcerers, but I understand it is a first book in a series so that sort of thing can happen. I had to go back and re-read those parts till I got it ... it could be how it was presented or I was just a little slow that day. Regardless ... I still thought it pretty inventive and not totally like anything else out there when it comes to creation/myths about dragons, mages, or the like.
I liked the character of Anaea for the most part. I admired her being strong of will ... but at times she was low on intelligence or common sense. I mean really if you notice you heal from gunshots wouldn't you think that it would carry over to your cancer?
I also liked Hunter, mostly.
The thing is when there was action it was pretty good, but that is "when" there was action. A lot of the book seemed to be mental hand wringing or repeating the same thing again and again in one way or another.
I liked it, but don't think I will read it again. I'm interested in reading the next one, but it isn't a high priority.

I purchased this book based on one of the first reviews. I was intrigued by the idea of a female character dying of breast cancer. I loved Anaea and Hunter from the beginning. Her plucky determination and strong-will and his alpha-maleness were a perfect match. At first I was dismayed when Hunter "lost" his body and shared his soul with Anaea but loved that he couldn't overwhelm her will. I thought the premise was clever and new. I loved the resolution of the story and the ride it took me along as I read. I'm looking forward to the next installment in the series. Well done, CI Black. I am now a big fan.

I was desperate for a new author the other night, I read all my usual authors new releases already. I've been on a shifter kick lately and this seemed like it would be a good try. Boy I wasn't wrong! I love the characters, especially Anaea. Watching my Godmother fight ovarian cancer for 4 years tooth and nail ( Susan Maxwell 1952-2010) made Anaea's strength of will so plausible. *SPOILER ALERT* For the author to find a cure for cancer and to bring Dragons back to our sky's made me smile in delight! I can't wait for the next book in the series!

I was tired of reading disappointing, predictable romances, so, I looked through the paranormal romances on ratings, and this book popped up. I downloaded it onto my android phone, and Wow! Great lead in with Anaea and Hunter. I was drawn into the book in the first scene, and it kept momentum throughout. Normally, not knowing the pronunciation of a name drives me crazy throughout the book. The pronunciation was addressed within the first chapter. Also, great formation of the dragon spirit world. I definitely recommend, and am waiting for the next one. This will happen soon, right? with Grey? Can't wait.

I was in two minds prior to purchasing this book if it would be something I would enjoy. I thoroughly enjoyed the novel idea on dragons in this book as well as the heroine. I would suggest this book to any Dragon lover who is looking for something different from all the other books. I do hope there will be more too the series....

This is a great Dragon read! I liked the way the dragons could hop back and forth between the spirit realm and the human realm. Hunter as well Grey are noble and fierce in their protection of the Dragon race. The love story is uplifting and makes the story complete!

I loved the book! While it had a few flaws such as switching POV's often and it seemed to end rather abruptly, it was fun to read and the characters were interesting and you could really get involved in their life stories. The world the story is set in is quite involved and the secondary characters are certainly worth their own books! I think other reviewers have pointed out the basic story line, I just wanted to say I would recommend it and hope to get more books myself in the series.

Let me just say that this book is a very good read. Now to the reason behind four stars instead of five (possible spoilers)... I really felt like the book lacked information on Hunter's background, I know getting to far into it could give away to much but I felt like we could have had a tad bit more information about him and his species. I was also disappointed with the ending on so many levels, but I'm hoping that the next book will clear up a lot for me and other readers. As I am quite sure others are wondering what will become of Regis, and when will Hunter tell Anaea about her cancer, and what will come of Grey's short lived moment with the woman, or shall I say drake, that he wants/needs/loves or whatever. Then there is the dragon laws that Hunter clearly broke and he took the medallion at the end, so like I said I'm really hoping that those things will all be cleared up in the next book because I just feel like all of those loose ends should have been tied up. Maybe not so much the situation with Grey or even the laws and the medallion, but at the very least the cancer and Regis should have been tied up before the end of the book. Otherwise, I think this is an incredible read and I will be looking for the next book.

Finished the book the other day, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. The characters, plot and lore all had me from start to finish. My only beef with it was the ending. I was left feeling cheated. It felt rushed and kind of sappy. I felt after all the characters went through, they should have had a more detailed final chapter, or at least an epilogue. Here is hoping the next book is just as good, with a better ending!

I have read Katie MacAlister's books about dragons and magic and since then have been on the lookout for books like that. This book is one that I will add to my list of beloved dragon, magic, and romance books. C.I. Black did a wonderful job of creating a dual world of humans and dragons. I look forward to reading more of her writings of the dragons, their cotaries and what new changes will be wrought in their world.

Wow! This book was amazing balls! First off the whole concept was unbelievably original. I can honestly say I've never read anything like this at all. Anaea was such a ridiculous heroine, seriously I applaud her and all her greatness. Diagnosed with breast cancer, lost her husband, her life and her friends she thinks there is nothing to live for. She decides screw cancer I'm going to die on my terms. She's standing at the rail looking down into the dark cold waters and this is how she decides to die. Till a man tries to talk her out of it. But in the process some psycho comes up and stabs the good Samaritan and her through the shoulder. He makes a decision to throw them over the bridge into the icy death waters below. Good Samaritan then gives Anaea the kiss of her life, bright lights and tingly feelings and all. She opens hr eyes to see the glassed over eyes of her hero. He's dead and she is still alive. Once to the surface she becomes very sleepy. But then we find Hunter, our main hot dragon man, has somehow invaded her mind with her still in it! To say this book lacked action would be a bold face lie! I swear they were fighting for their life almost the whole book to the very last page! And I loved every minute of it. C.I. Black is an amazing author that makes me feel it all. And considering that the whole book is from a third person POV, that's amazing! If I to pick one thing to critique it would be that the end, end was a bit rushed. No this and this happened. Just bam it's over. But I do understand there will be more to this series and I will be first in line to get it! Amazing balls!

Hunter, an ancient dragon spirit, is viciously attacked and forced to transfer his spirit into her body, Anaea's life takes a new terrifying twist.
I did not really have high hopes for this book. The idea of two people sharing one body did not sound terribly entertaining.
Was I wrong. So good, so interesting and so well done. The strength of the material helped me skip over some of the things that stretched credulity. The two main leads were well drawn and had depth. The time that they shared the same body turned out to be some of the best parts of the book. The idea of a race that is reduced to a spirit and must obtain bodies for use is unusual but it worked.
I was a little disappointed in the ending, not because it was not tightly written or interesting, but it seemed rushed and incomplete. Almost like the author had a word limit and had to finish before running out of words. I needed an epilogue to explain some of the more startling changes that occur at the end.
I can only hope that a next book fills in some of the holes left at the end.
I am looking forward to the next book. I quickly checked to see if the author had any other books, hoping against hope that this was really book 1 in an already written series of 20 books. Sadly, this is not the case.
Come on C.I. Black..get to writing!

Wow, great story, new and fresh!!! I liked the characters and was really into the book in the beginning. I think the story starts out strong, interesting and is nicely built up, but it seems to just fizzle out for me. I can't explain it, it just got boring. The author just kept revisiting the same points, literally with the same wording over and over and over again. It just got tiresome hearing the same ideas and dialog. I feel less repetitive dialog and more magic and some detailed explanation of how the magic worked and where it came from would have made the story more interesting. I would have even liked to have had much more action (and I am a chick). With that said, I was okay with the ending, it was definitely written so that you would want to read the next book, however, I won't.

The book was great, but the end was like the author either got bored with the book and just wanted it over, or got so excited about the ending that they couldn't get it out fast enough. Although disappointed with how abrupt the ending was, I really enjoyed the story itself. And the premise was original, a love story between dragons and humans.

Excellent heroine. Strong fearless while self conscientious and fearful of rejection. The storyline and characters were well thought out and compassion inspiring. The problem was the author took a well rounded story with excellent villains, heroines, supporting characters and plot and threw it away with a very rushed ending. It was anticlimactic and badly put together. May she should pull it rewrite the ending.n

Well, let me just say that I rarely write reviews for any product, much less books that I get. However, I loved this book. I happened to get it when it was actually free. I don't know if that was a fluke of the computer or if I just got that lucky. I won't go into what the story is, but I will say that it wasn't what I was expecting. The characters were done well and the author made sure to explain things when you needed them explained. I can't wait for the next one to come out!
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because there were times that the story seemed to lag and I found I could skip a page or two and not miss anything.

I did not really have high hopes for this book. The idea of two people sharing one body did not sound terribly entertaining.

I stumbled upon this book in my recommendations. I'm very glad I did! It was a completely new spin on the dragon thing, and kept me interested until the very end. This is a fantastic new world, and I am hoping to see more books by this author. I agree with another reviewer, there aren't enough raving reviews for this book! Take a chance on this one, I think many people will be glad they did.

One of the best paranormal romances I have ever read. It was so interesting that when I was done reading it I wished that it was not done and guess what... it wasn't. Can't wait to get my hands on book 2.
Very inventive plot and engaging characters. This was a book that made it hard to come back to reality. Excuse me while I search for book 2.

I came upon this new author while looking for kindle freebies. I wasn't sure what to expect but was pulled into the story almost immediately. This is a story about a woman who's ready to end her life & then to her surprise has a dragon soul occupy her body with her. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good paranormal read.

This was a great read! Strong male lead, awesome female lead - and dragons! what else do you need? Oh, intriguing secondary characters? Yep, has those, too! What a wonderful world to explore - I can't wait for more! A new favorite author to follow! This was the only kindle book listed, so I guess now it's a waiting game for other titles to be added!

I love the all the paranormal books, especially the ones with shape shifters; and the plot seemed interesting, so I bought the book.
Incredible!!! I loved the book from the first page. This book has many interesting and unique concepts like that of a man trapped inside a woman, and let me say that the conversations between them are awesome. The characters are deep and real and the story is well written and breathtaking.
I will be following this author because her style is pure magic.

I was very happily suprised with this book, I purchased it just to have something read and to try a new author. Boy was I suprised!, I couldn't put it down, and now I have to wait for the next book in the series. I'll be buying the next book as soon as it's available. It was a quick read, and a good blend of action and romance. The story line was a new twist on an old theme. I can't wait to see how it continues to develop.

Short review: read the book in 24 hrs. Loved it! If you like fantasy novels, especially series your gonna want to read book two as bad as I am. Read the book! The other reviewers latched on to nit picky details that no way account in my book for giving anything less than five stars.

I'm kind of on the fence about this one. The writing was good. The story intriguing, but I don't think I loved it or how the hero initially felt about the heroine. I prefer more of an instant attraction.

This was a quick fun read - quick because it was hard to put down. I really enjoyed the multiple perspective approach, and the pace of the book. There was a little of the "I wish I could say this, but no words come out" which I can do without, and the ending could have been drawn a little bit more detailed (the last fight goes on so quickly, I read it a second time just to make sure I didn't miss anything.
At the end, there are many open questions, which is why I am waiting for the next one :-)

What an original paranormal romance!
Hunter, as an assassin for the prince of his people, spends a lot of time in the human world retrieving the souls of his fellow dragons as directed by his sovereign. When he sees Anaea for the first time about to throw herself to her death, he is drawn to her and sacrifices his body in order to save her. He prevents her from dying, but in order to preserve his soul, he must share her mind and body until he can find a new vessel to inhabit. Anaea, fighting her own battle with terminal illness, just wanted to end her life on her own terms, but instead is drawn into Hunter's dangerous world of political intrigue and magic. No longer ready to die, Anaea fights with Hunter to save him from the factions trying to either replace or retain the monarchy.
After sharing memories and thoughts intimately, the two are drawn together into a passionate affair, but can a dragon and human actually maintain a relationship? She expects rejection and abandonment, making it hard to trust that Hunter can really accept her in her scarred, disease-ridden body. Hunter sees nothing but the strong-willed warrior within. With their cultural differences and each nursing their individual hurts, it is difficult for these two to come together to build happiness.
I really enjoyed this PNR. While the ideas of dragons and magic are fantastic, the themes of illness, abandonment, reactions to past traumas that run through the book make the characters seem real in their reactions to events unfolding around them. The story draws you in and holds on to you until the last page.
This is a voluntary review of an ARC of the story.

I really enjoyed this shifter/supernatural story; there was a unique plot, developed characters, and the writing was well done. The author took a supernatural element - a dragon shifter - and shook up the plot by adding a lot of different twists and turns.
Hunter is in trouble, and the only way to save himself is to transfer his dragon spirit into another's body. That other body just happens to be Anaea's - and Hunter quickly discovers that Anaea has problems of her own. Immortal Coil follows Hunter and Anaea as they try to save themselves from internal and external peril, all while finding happiness with each other.
Overall, this was a good read. There was plenty of action and drama to keep reader's entertained. The characters grew throughout the story, and both Hunter and Anaea had depth and personality. If you're looking for a different kind of dragon shifter story, this one is well worth the read.

Anaea has terminal cancer and is preparing to jump off a bridge as a means of controlling her death. A man reaches out and pulls her back, as she turns to him to push off she sees a female stab him through the back with a sword! The women then demands he surrender the medallion. Instead he wraps Anaea in his arms and leaps from the bridge. As they sink into the water he kisses her and she sees a bright light. That is how the book starts! I was hooked. The pace remains fast and the characters and sub characters are entertaining and compelling. It is interesting that there are no last names given and minimal back history, but you feel drawn to the players anyway. Also, the heroine is a strong individual, which is admirable. This is a paranormal novel with dragons, soul swapping and magic, but it is well done and has some interesting twists. I would recommend the book and I will be looking for others from this author. This is a slightly different read to what i have been reading recently, however the book starts with a hard subject. Anaea has been suffering from Cancer and things are bad, she is going to jump off the bridge in Pittsburgh.
The subject is tackled well, however its not a book that pulls you down, by the end you are lifted up and happy things have gone well for our two characters.
We do get points of view from multiple characters, not just the main two characters in a bid to give us a well rounded view of what is happening, but as we get the point of view of the baddie, i feel that it loses the suspense it could have had.
We get to meet characters that are also going to have their own endings and get their points of view at times, so we start to get invested in them, wanting to hear them have their own story.
A good read, certainly giving us a good idea of the world that they inhabit and the law of the dragon kind.

This is an ARC review for "Immortal Coil" a wonderful story of finding one's true love in the most inconvenient places. Hunter is a drake who's job as the kings assassion takes him to the human world to hunt down those sentenced to rebirth. On his way back to a gate to his world he encounteres a women standing on the ledge of a bridge about to jump into the Icy waters below. He's drawn to help her but in the process is attacked from behind she and he both fall into the icy water where he makes the decision to brake the law and jump into her body to save them both. But now how does he go about protecting both of them and conceal his crime of occupying a living vessel because if they are found out he will be sentenced to rebirth and she will be killed and he can't lose her now that he's found his other half.

I really enjoyed this book, once I got in the rhythm of it. This is not my usual genre but the story sucked me in. Excellent job C.I. Black! A forgotten, mythical race, surviving only in spiritual form a chance encounter and an opportunity for many to heal from their wounds, to find love, acceptance and a lost freedom once again. My only not great comment would be about too much angst between the 2 main characters, too much ‘I shouldn’t, but I want to, but I shouldn’t...’. It doesn’t last too long but it interrupted the flow for me a little. I would highly recommend reading this book and I look forward to more of this writers work. This was a very interesting read for me. I don't read a lot of fantasy or shifter stories and I've never read about dragon shifters. I enjoyed reading "Immortal Coil." It's well-written and the plot is so intriguing. The dialogue flowed smoothly, even the inner thoughts. Well done, given it was one body, being shared. It was easy to distinguish between Anaea and Hunter's thoughts. I also didn't have any difficulty understanding the magical and dragon attributes - I found it fascinating. Action, adventure, fierce battles and some humor. There were some spicy moments, as well. I believe that this story would appeal to multiple genres. I received this book as an ARC and I volunteered this review.

Certainly a different take on dragons that works for me. I love how C.I. Black weaves the romance and the story line together so one doesn't overshadow the other, and while telling one story sets up the reader to delve further into this world in future books. The secondary characters are also well flushed out leaving you wanting to know more about them. Anaea and Hunter meet and have a running action adventure over the next few days, learning about each other and falling in love. I would recommend this book.

Hunter is the Regis's assassin and collects souls for the handmaiden of the Dragon Kind.
Anaea is a mortal woman with terminal cancer who by a chance encounter with Hunter ends up sharing her body literally with his spirit.
The book then becomes somewhat confusing as it switches between the two talking within one body as they are pursued by villains trying to take back the medallion that Hunter carried that houses the souls that will be reborn.
The story has some merit but i did find it very difficult to follow

A very interesting story line with a lot of characters to remember, and there were a few places where it seemed to drag out, but there was a lot of action, anxiety and danger to compensate. I know Anea was presented as a strong willed woman but I got really tired of her thinking she could handle dragon situations better than Hunter and not letting him have control, yet when it came to the Jester she was such a weakling. There were some things left dangling but since it says book one I guess they will be addressed in book two. I voluntarily agreed to read and review an advanced copy of this book.

This book was entertaining but it felt like it borrowed some ideas. So our two main character share a body for some portion of the book...and it's weird. Not weird per say the author does a great job in creating unique voices for each of the characters...but it did feel a little bit like "The Host" by Stephanie Meyer. By that I mean the dragons in this world are basically parasites the difference being that there are people of opposite genders instead of the same, but similar premise. The writing is pretty good, the author does a fantastic of really setting up her world of Dragons and the hierarchy there was a lot of thought behind that, I mean wow the time that took is remarkable, which meant that she really poured a lot into creating this world and that's amazing. Everything was really vivid, the imagery felt real, it was really a well crafted story. It's just the story did lag in some parts, which is going to happen when you have such a rich history to get across to the reader, and a series like this does tend to be a bit slow during book one. There is so much that is built up for the second book and I look forward to that, because we have so much of the back story in place we more than likely won't have to go through that again. Overall I really did enjoy it and look forward to the next book whenever it comes out.

This is the first book I have read by C.I. Black and I cannot wait to get the rest of the series.I just love a good shifter book and this was a fantastic new take, it was really hard to put down. This book starts out with Anaea getting ready to kill herself by throwing herself off a bridge, she has cancer and only has a short time to live and wants to go out on her terms.Hunter who is a dragon spirit in human form sees her and tries to stop her but he is attacked and they both fall from the bridge into the icy water below his spirit slipping into her. This was a super read I just loved and would highly recommend it.I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. So to start this book can be a stand alone book to the series of books by the author. The book starts out with the female main character standing on the edge of a bridge and deciding to jump off and give herself a quick end. As she does she meets a mysterious stranger who tries to stop her only to complicate her already complicated life. As the story progesses the characters become more developed and intriguing. There isn't much to the way of background but the vagueness doesnt take from the story, it only adds to the mystery. Once I had a chance to read this story I didn't want to put it down. It is full of magic, romance and a little action to create a wonderful story. I cant wait to hunt down the second story to this series.

This first book in the Dragon Spirit series by C I Black, was nothing short of outstanding entertainment and enjoyment for those who enjoy paranormal and magic. I enjoyed the internal struggle and interplay between the two trapped characters as they battled each other for control, while at the same time developing a burning love for each other too. This was the ultimate battle between good and evil, as well as a battle between ideas of the past and the future. I have definitely added the next book to my TBR list.

Book 1 in the "A Dragon Spirit Novel" series, Anaea and Hunter's story is full of magic, dragons and romance.
It's well written and keeps your attention. The characters are interesting and well rounded and the introduction of new characters grabs your interest in further books in the series.
The story gets a little bogged down in the middle but soon comes back with a punch.
The ending is dramatic and keeps you cheering for the good guys.
Another great story from C.I. Black.

Interesting take on dragons. The dragons are spirits because of a spell put on them from sorcerers during a war with humans. They now must live in a human body. There is a lot of action, someone is trying to kill Hunter and Anaea who are the Hero's and our love interest. There is an connection between Hunter and Anaea, because of the body sharing they get to know their strengths and weaknesses. The side characters and the unrest of the Court makes an opening for future books. For the first in the series, this is a Great Intro to the series. I volunteer to read and review this ARC.

I liked this book very much. It has everything a lover of dragon shifter books could want. There is adventure, suspense, twist and turns, action, romance, magic and finally, love. I really loved watching Anaea and Hunter work together and while doing so, fall in love. I couldn't put this book down and I'm going to go read the rest of the books in this series. I have never read anything from this author before, but I certainly will from now on. I definitely recommend this book. I received this book for free and this is my honest review.

What would you do, if you found out, that another creature is sharing your body? This strange experience is made by Anaea after a failed attempt of suicide. As she would have never thought, her hero Hunter is a dragon shifter that saved her life after he has been attacked himself.
I liked this adventurous storyline with it's magic world and it was a very enjoyable read for me. I'm looking forward to the next book(s) in this series and can only recommend it!

I read this book as and ARC for HG's for an honest review.
I found this book is full of intrigue and magic. It is a different take on any of the other dragon stories I have read..
Will Anaea and Hunter ever be able to touch each other? How long can two souls be in the same body without going mad? Who is trying to kill them, and who is the Handmaiden?
This is a good story, all the groundwork has been made for further books and I can’t wait to read the continuing series.

The introduction to the dragon feudal society was great. While some have integrated into the human world others have kept themselves locked away in the past. Two souls sharing a body for a brief time isn't new yet this was done well. I liked that our heroine wasn't perfect or even whole, carrying a lot of baggage; and our hero sees who she is without the trappings and loves her. Overall an enjoyable read nd I will look for more by this author.

This is my first book review ever. I stumbled on this book through the Kindle Lending Library. It had few reviews and an intriguing storyline. I figured it was free, so I had nothing to lose. I LOVED it. Anaea is strong-willed and intelligent - everything you want a heroine to be. She takes charge of her situation and doesn't let something like cancer dictate her life. She is a true warrior. And then there's Hunter...sigh. He's just perfect. There needs to be a book 2 right now. I will be following this series for sure.

I downloaded this recently, the premise interested me. Dragons and body sharing are not my usual fare in the paranormal romance novels I usuallu read. I enjoyed the story, the characters were well developed and distinct. Even the minor characters. The plot moved well and the world was easy to sink in to.
This author is definitely on my watch list and I am looking forward to book 2. Really hoping to see if Grey has a story to be told.

I've read a lot of dragon fiction and this is one of the best - a twist on dragon mythology, makes it very personal - immediate conection with characters, fast action with a tension-filled plot, giving reader just enough info to inform and surprise. Ending is power packed but leaves me with lots of questions and want to start book II -- which I hope will be published soon

Finally! A well-written fantasy novel with strong elements of romance. There was great dialogue, character development, and get this - a good plot line. Romance novels tend to lack all three, and I love romance novels. Definitely an author who is flying under the radar at the moment. I would certainly recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy or romance.

Seriously, if you have trouble sleeping and find that you've run out of everyone's favourite prescription sleep aid, just pick up a copy of Immortal Coil, this book is so dull, you'll be nodding off in no time! This really should have been the blurb for this book, because in all honesty, every single time I'd start to read this book, my eyes would start to close. I did wind up finishing it, but it was a real struggle. The characters are so flat, and cardboard, I couldn't feel for them one way or the other as they were just so grey and devoid of any true personality or colour. The novel is formulaic at best and uninspired at worst. What was a good concept got bogged down by the wooden execution. Although it's well written, (and by that I mean no grammatical errors) the author does not have a way with words and doesn't use language well enough to create the alternate reality required for you to fall into a story and live through the characters, I could have been reading a recipe for shepherds pie and that would have elicited more of an emotional response. Another little annoyance was the constant overuse of the word masculine, I mean really? Sheesh! Invest in a bloody thesaurus or something. For future reference, synonyms for masculine: Manly, Bold, Strong, Male, Hardy, Robust, Bold, flippin'-Basso-feckin'-Profundo, ad infinitum! Pick a context and have at it.
And finally, I'm sick of stupid heroines. Let me see if I've got this straight, you finally suspend disbelief long enough to come to terms that you're sharing your body/brain/soul whatever with another being, you've been shot and healed with no trace of wounds, had a sword swung at you, used a medallion thingy to claim someone's soul and accepted all of that, but when the being that's occupying you says "hey we're in grave danger, let's book, skidaddle, time is of the utmost!" you plant your backside on some stairs and grouse that you're not going anywhere because it's your body and you want answers now da**it?! You refuse to give him control of your body during a battle because it's your body, by george, and you're gonna be the one to control it even though you've never fought a day in your life, weigh a hundred pounds soaking wet and death is a very real outcome should you flub it? You close your eyes to take a shower so that the dude occupying your body won't see you naked through your eyes? No complaints there, a fall and a smack on the head in the bathtub could only improve this chick. Then she turns around after taking a shower and puts on her dirty underwear (that's been bled on, sweated on, and just ewwww!) because new underwear wasn't provided with her dress and her underwear is her armour? Really? Is it a chastity belt also Pollyanna?
Oh please, I've said it before and I'll say it again, if 1/10 of the world's female population is really this moronic, we're doomed and should resort to cloning rather than procreation, and while we're at it could we maybe genetically select for less boneheaded females? I'm sorry, but obstinacy, absurdity, overreaction and just plain old imbecility do not equal standing up for yourself, girl power or aid in your campaign to prove that anything he can do you can do better. No. You can't. Cause you're obviously too bloody emotional. This is a trend I've been noticing in books lately of not letting men be men. I'm sorry men and women are NOT equal and feminism sucks as apparently not only does it have the potential to turn you into the crazy cat lady whose house all the kids in the neighbourhood cross the street to avoid except on Halloween to egg you, it seems to also turn you into a bumbling simpleton.
But hey, maybe you want to read this. After all, it is cheaper than Ambien.

While searching for my next great read, I came across this book. Now I must admit, the cover art is total eye candy and made me stop and take a look at this book. Once I read the synopsis and I realized that this book was going to be totally different than other dragon books, I decided to give it a shot. I was not disappointed!
We start out with a regular human girl, Anaea, standing on a bridge contemplating the final moments of her life. She is in the final stages of cancer and the doctors don't give her much longer to live. She has decided not to sit by and wither, but to end her life now while she still has the strength. As she is preparing for the final dive into the icy waters below, Hunter sees her and tries to stop her. He is a dragon spirit but in human form. Before he can pull her from the bridge, someone steps up and stabs him with a sword. As they both plunge into the icy water, his spirit slips into Anaea. Even though Anaea was ready to face her final destiny, she does not plan on doing it while possessed by some dude she just met.
There were so many things I really enjoyed about this book. Even though Anaea was ready to die, I enjoyed Anaea's fiery spirit and her fight to remain in control of herself to the end. I enjoyed how the dragon spirited people showed their teeth and sneered at each other. I especially like how Hunter kept thinking of Anaea as a dragon and wanted to give her shiny things or jump around spouting fire to impress her. I also enjoyed how Hunter and Anaea were drawn together and not just thrown into bed together.
The only thing that I really didn't enjoy in the book was the switching of Point of View (POV). I have to give this book a little leeway because we are talking about someone possessed by another and the dual personality thing kicks in, but at times it was a bit confusing as to who was talking about what. I would have to back up and reread portions to get it straight. Besides our main character and her dragon spirit co-inhabitant, there were a few other POVs that we switched to. Sometimes it was clear we were switching and other times it was not.
I will definitely be picking up the next in this series!

Very Excellent! I came across this by accident and I'm so glad I did...Could hardly put it down and then began again the next day! This doesn't happen often enough. Great idea, great characters, great emotion. I love the strong female character and yet the male lead is also very well done.
