I liked this book a lot. As an American gun owner I find it weird how many people in the world know nothing about guns. They have a good plan but of course some sissy people are going to ruin everything being little poops. every one should be able to defend themselves and this is a great example why. Can't wait to read the next book.

Good start to a new apocalyptic series. I liked the main character, Dan. He was smart & had a good plan that propelled the story. I also liked that he actually met up & with some nice people. In alot of these type books the only people the characters meet are Mad Max type psycho's. A good change of pace here.
Definitely be reading the next book.

A believable story & characters that makes the book hard to put down to take a break. Its nice to see a scenario based in the UK after all the US based stories I've read. After reading book 1 I got the rest of the series for my Kindle. I'll be looking for other books by the author.
Chancey Family Lies (Chancey Books Book 2) :: The Official Story of the Abbey Road years 1962-1970 :: Justin Cocker (Cocker Brothers - The Cocky Series Book 5) :: A Thriller (A Rossler Foundation Mystery Book 1) - The Tenth Cycle :: Track Animals—and Other Forgotten Skills - Use Outdoor Clues to Find Your Way

The British are a more gun intolerant society. Therefore they have a softer landing into a social collapse scenario. As is normal in any group, the Bell Curve of characters exist.
Although I was reluctant to read it at first, I am glad I did. The story is well written and is a good read.

A great story about how to survive; how society can breakdown and how most can rise above the inhumanity of some It was great how the author could portray the violence and other horrid things that people do to each other without going to depth that some authors go to in order to catch our interest and imagination. This author invited us to use our own imaginations and held my interest from the start through the second book. Am getting ready to read the third book in the series to satisfactorily end the series one way or the other.

This book doesn't seem like something that would hook you. A lot of they go out and scavenge, find a new person, back to camp. Somehow though, I couldn't put this down. There's enough action to keep you on edge, but the story is mostly about humanity rebuilding itself and group dynamics. Surprisingly fantastic.

I would like to recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a very interesting and exciting book where the action never stops. I am finding these books to be very difficult to put down. I will be looking forward to reading the next book from this author.

I think of this as the nice apocalypse series. It's dark, but not too dark. There are obstacles, but they aren't too bad. The characters do bad things in their situation, but they aren't too bad. The reading is very steady and it's entertaining and before you know it, you're on book 4 waiting for book five.

Besides having to extrapolate what some of the British words meant, such as boot is the trunk and bonnet is the hood of a car, the flow of the story was enjoyable. There were a few odd editing choices as well but it didn't detract from the story. If you are a fan of end of the world stories than this one is highly recommended.

I've read a lot of books in the post-apocalypse genre and found this to be one of the better ones. As another reviewer mentioned, the character development took place over time, you would get glimpses into peoples backgrounds that left you wondering. As soon as I finished this I ordered the next 2 in the series and look forward to the upcoming 4th book.

Scientists in their cold search for answers could easily condemn us all. That is the underlying premise of this dystopian series. No Zombies just survival against the elements, other survivors and propagation. Well written, interesting characters and great plot. Highly recommend.

This book held a lot of great characters that were built upon. Also in managing the resources to think about this should happen in real life . I gave it a four because it is written in British English and some of the slang I had to look up . Overall it was a good book .

Exciting, fun. Couldn't put it down. Characters are all interesting and there is heroism which makes me very happy. I love end of the world stories. This one keeps me wondering what if and what would I do. I'm checking for the second book next. Hope there are many.

this is a story that builds slowly but builds into a very good series of stories of the re-building of society after a deadly virus kills off 99% of everyone...you wake up alone...destroyed over the loss of the ones you loved...after a pity-party, you start meeting one lost soul after another...can you move on and re-build what has been lost...can you are again...the characters in this new world are tasked with that very challenge...

the book starts out slow...stay with it...you will be rewarded with a story worth reading and a series that is worth your time...

This is a great book I love the detail in the writing and how the plot flows along. Couldn't put it down and I will be going threw the whole series for sure. I would recommend to anyone that likes reading apocalyptic stuff.

I've read my fair share of the survival/SHTF types novels. This one is not bad, but there is very little character development, there are literally nearly 30 characters to keep track of and the lack of knowledge about each one makes it difficult to keep organized. Also, the climax of the mostly dull book doesnt occur until near the end of the book. All of that being said I will be reading the sequel.

It took a little bit for me to get into this book. As an American, there were several words that were not part of my vocabulary. Once I got past that, I couldn't put it down. I felt the characters were well written and the protagonists were realistic. If you like Apocolyptic stories, you must read this series!

"Survival: After it Happened" is a gem in the PA/Lethal Pandemic genre. An ever-increasing cast of characters/survivors of an unnamed pandemic band together for the 'common good'. Set in England, with protagonists rich in skills and varying idiosyncrasies, this novel, the 1st in a trilogy, is an excellent addition to the SHTF/TEOTWAWKI genre, a favorite of this reader. One only hopes that Books 2 and 3 are as worthy of praise. And with that, it's on to Book 2.

I was so engrossed but this book I couldn't put it down at all! I love the many personalities infused into a single book but I'm surprised there was a lack of conflict within the group but this is the first book so I'm excited to read the rest.

My favorite part was how easily I could picture this as a video game, with a couple playable characters and the rest found in their respective areas to chat with!

This is a must read for lovers of survival in a post apocalyptic world. It has it all; action, adventure, compassion, and love. I'm blown away after reading all 4 books in the series. You will love the characters. Dan, the leader. Leah, the twelve year old girl who must grow up much too fast. Solid entertainment!

Tired of zombies? This is a different uptake on a virus ending the world. You still have macho men, and women who can do almost anything, and not break a sweat. So what! That's why these are so fun to read!

Great introduction to the main characters. Being an American, I can definitely see the different point of view and how differently we perceive about the world around us at times. I do have to google a few words now and then!

This is well written, riveting story for those that are attracted to the end of days as we know them. I'm looking forward to reading book 2 and the rest of the series if they are as good as the first. I can't wait to see what happened to Ash, I hope the dog is ok.

The story is pretty good. However, focusing on too many characters and their development was a chore. I don't keep my reading progress being displayed on my Kindle. The first exciting part happened 98% into the book. Hoping for more excitement on Book 2!

I found this a believable story and I was very curious to see it through and the conclusion worked for me. The writing, however, was very dry and read somewhat like a diary. I didn't feel the author successfully built tension and I was emotionally removed from the characters. While the world-building was excellent I never became immersed in the story.

Post apocalyptic story lines in movies and TV have been a personal favorite for many years. The deluge of American based fiction was beginning to bore and become stale. Really enjoying a British spin on the genre- especially as one of my favorite movies is Children of Men. Looking forward to the rest of the books.

I got this on a whim through kindle unlimited about 5 hours ago, and am starting book two now. THIS IS SO DAMN GOOD!!!!! The emotional highs and lows are unreal. If things continue this way throughout the serious I'm going to have to order hard copies for the book shelf. Splendid work!

Interesting enough story but 90% of the book is boring. It's really just a setup for the rest of the series; it can't stand on its own. Read the first few chapters and the last few chapters and move on to book two.

I happened across this series searching for a good read. I couldn't put my kindle down after reading the first page. Descriptions of people and places are so well written, people, scenary and places came alive in my mind. Their struggle to survive after a plague and make a new life will keep you on the edge of your seat!

This is not a complete book. They took one book and broke it into five. Bad form. It just gets going, and then it's over, time to buy book two. One star for that.

The story is nothing new. However, it's interesting to read a story from a culture "with out" guns and how they handle them when their lives depend on them.

This book is s great read. To often apocalypse novels seem to run the "Mad Max" story death, destruction, and all out total war. I would recommend this book to all who enjoy apocalypse thrillers. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

I read several post apocalypse type books and I like how Devon takes a practical angle of rebuilding society while surviving. If really made me think about what I would do in a similar situation. There is BusterPosey also a good mix of action and drama. I enjoyed the read.

I really liked the book. It was set in Europe so the verbiage is different. It was a little slow at times but kept me interested. I plan to read the next book. It is how I would guess the world would be. Happy reading!

I've read a lot of post apocalypse books. Most have numerous plot hole, and plausibility issues. I felt that this series was well writing, with developed, likable characters, and a very likely post apocalypse tale! Quick read: all three over the weekend.

Love this series...know why because the characters are doing the exact same things I would be doing if I were in the same situation! All of the other post apocalyptic books have characters searching for cars (this guy goes straight to the dealership) Finally an author with common sense

I found myself being pulled into the story, only to be jarred out of it.

Good premise, one guy against the world during a SHTF.

But then the guy goes to open the boot... what boot? His boot? No,he means the trunk. Of the car. In the parking lot. Which he calls the car park.

It was frustrating.

You want to use Britishisms... set yourself in the UK... I'm cool with that. Or make your guy a British transplant. But if it's an American guy in America, he needs to speak American ;)

He lost me at Chapter Two, because he couldn't be bothered to find how a Glock works. The safety is built in to the trigger, you can't "put the safety on". If you can't be bothered to learn how something works, then I can't be bothered to read your book.
★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆

Well crap. I'm only 3% in and we have a character 'putting the safety on' on a Glock hand gun. Another author that failed to have a 'mechanical proofreader' peruse his or her work. More when there's more.

Very entertaining with realistic post apocalypse survival actions as each character's capabilities surface. Unfortunately, there is no end unless the reader succumbs to the author's trap to buy the next volume.

This should be a higher rating than 5. Would and have recommended this story to friends and relatives. Pretty fast paced, well fleshed out characters and story to follow s o easily. Will be following this author, Devon C. Ford in the future. Thanks.....

I like the book mostly, interesting ideas. Wish the characters had more depth with less stereotypical type casting 'suicidal army dude with random obsessive protocol issues and an inability for flexible thinking due to being a good solder', bossy school teacher', 'lesbian who talks like a dude', etc... what I hated about the book was how the guy treated his dog like a jerk, dog equals property and only a tool. Main character also seems to lack planning- why only send out a person alone not in teams and why can't everyone be trained? Doesn't everyone want to survive?

This is easily one of the best post-apocalyptic books I've read. I was hooked early on and downloaded the next book in the series before I was done with the first few chapters. Well-written, well-edited with engaging characters. I'll admit, I had a bit of a difficult time keeping the first two characters straight for the first few chapters, but once I got over that bump, it was smooth sailing. An excellent book and a wonderful series!

This apocalypse story is so different. No gangs from the inner city, no corrupt government, no prisoners who were let loose to terrorize everyone. Still, there are problems and bad guys. I love this unusual approach and I love having it all happen in England.
