An excellent summary of how mindfulness works to keep you in the "now" and combat ruminations and depression. At present I have found that I cannot commit to the 8 week process as I'm in the middle of another course, but I am using as much mindfulness as I can.

Though I haven't made my way through the workbook as yet,
one-star is because the enclosed CD does not work in any of my CD players.
I see that others are having this issue as well. Disappointing.
Edit: turns out this CD does work in my auto cd player...
I'm guessing it needs to be a true MP-3 player?
So may work, or not, depending on your devices. Good luck!

There were a few ideas presented that I could use in my therapy with clients. I was at a disadvantage because i did not have a MP3 player. I do not feel that this book would be useful for beginners as they would need feedback which they can only get from another person working with them. In other words, it would be useful only if they were working with a therapist training them in mindfulness.

As a PTSD suffer this workbook gave me something to focus on when I was having a bad day. I got it in ebook form but would love to have had it in paperback so that I could have it at the ready to help me work thru my episodes.

I have recommended The Mindful Way Through Depression to therapy clients before, and will definitely be recommending The Mindful Way Workbook to complement that book. The text in this workbook is very readable and accessible for people who are new to mindfulness or meditation, and the authors make a clear case for how mindfulness can help one get unstuck from old patterns than can perpetuate depression. The varied content, including patient excerpts and poems, make the information come alive. I loved that the home practice logs contained frequently asked questions/challenges and expert responses - I think my clients will find these very helpful and supportive. The workbook also does a great job getting readers to anticipate barriers to practice, and provides suggestions for maintaining a mindfulness practice amidst a busy life. Almost every page has space to record reflections or respond to questions, which offers readers an opportunity to engage with material in a different way than simply reading it. Finally, I liked the “helpful hints” for getting prepared for practice, and the illustrations of good sitting and stretching postures.

The book and recordings may be excellent but don't download them as an ebook. In the front matter, you're given a web address to go to at the publisher's site to download the recordings that go along with the 8-week plan but the page is no longer there. I did a thorough search through the publisher's site: the material has been taken down, not moved.
UPDATE:
Thanks to a commenter to this review who provided several links, I found one that works. (Unfortunately two others did not work.)
Here's the link I used that does work for ebook buyers: http://rodalebooks.s3.the storeaws.com/mindfulness/index.html
You can cut and paste it right into your browser and it will give you the downloads that print buyers get on the CD that comes with their book.
Another commenter reported that there are live links in the book and if you click on them, rather than typing them into your web-browser (which is, admittedly, what I did), you will be able to access the recorded content. So there are two routes to get there.

The Mindful Way Workbook provides a clear, organized and beautiful map of how to be free from suffering. As a psychotherapist and mindfulness teacher, I have used the authors' other book The Mindful Way Through Depression for people with other emotional difficulties, not just exclusively depression. So I am glad that they include other types of emotional distress in the title of this workbook . . . because it can be helpful for many, not just people experiencing depression.
If you have experimented with mindfulness practice and felt the need for more support, try this workbook. It takes you gently by the hand and helps lead you through the practice so that you can make it your own and free yourself from emotional distress.

I bought two books: one is "The Mindful Way through Depression" and another is "The Mindful Way Workbook". There is no issue with the CD in the first book. The both books are excellent, but the workbook includes mp3 CD which does not work on my two CD stereo players (JVC and Pioneer). I contacted the publisher, The Guildford Press, but they basically ignored my claim against their product and advised to use the CD audio files through a computer or other devices. I am very disappointed that I cannot use the CD on my CD players.
